    Another bonus about getting the Korth from the auction: the current models differ from that one quite a bit: for instane the grip panels are black and the cocking surface is in a classic slanted rectangle instead of that interesting hexagonal shape (altough still done in that really cool circular stippling)

    • @MeowMeowDeathRay
      @MeowMeowDeathRay 6 років тому +8

      I believe the exact wording was "buy for the gun, don't buy for the story", and it was referring to the stories that come with some guns like someone big deal did some great deed with this particular rifle in a particular battle that sorta thing.

    • @avp5964
      @avp5964 6 років тому

      Wasn't that about a gun with questionable provenance as in "Don't buy this based on the provenance because it is questionable?" Don't have a link by chance?

      A well know fact about auctioneering is that the more in known about an object, the more it is likley to sell for. This even applies to say a cheeseboard made by a 3rd grader, if the name and/or the palce it was made (and when) the more likley it is to sell.

    Where would you buy antique guns that aren’t particularly rare? I am looking into purchasing an SMLE and I can’t find an auctions for them. Is there a way to get them for cheaper than the very few online auctions that I have seen? Most of them online sell for $600 or more which seems steep considering they were significantly less just a few years ago.

  • @jasonsell8523
    @jasonsell8523 6 років тому

    Ian, what do you make of the McCarty Revolver going for so much money versus, like you said, the Schulhof? Is it likely there were just two guys interested that kept driving the bid up or is it the uniqueness of the item that made the price go crazy?

  • @ringowunderlich2241
    @ringowunderlich2241 6 років тому

    The prices for the Schulhof and the Pritchard are way to low. Its is always noticable, that craftsmanship isn't as appreciated on those auctions as it should be. Considering the Schulhof being part of the early development of a semi-auto pistol it even has historical relevance. Ofcourse, the new owner will feel lucky not paying as much.

  • @leonardmaus583
    @leonardmaus583 5 років тому

    Well Schulhof is a very funny name for a pistol, because of the fact that it means schoolyard in German.

  • @therugburnz
    @therugburnz 6 років тому

    As a liker of rotary and turret actions on many manufactured items, I find the price of the first item reasonable but a bit high. I doubt there is much to be learned about manufacturing. But maybe it didn't happen that way as firearms are a niche. I just love most metallic manufactured items and how they were made.
    For me a double turret equals twice a facinating or 'twyste as Stoooopid' depending on lack of FAIL. Three axis rotation is nine times Genius or three squared 'STOOPID' ! It depends if it works or not.
    Keep up the good work.

    The colt proto of 1971, the product of a OG american company, trying to gain headway in a market their design teams were way out of sight with. Colts curse is that they will always sell 1911's, SAA's and of course the AR-15 platform. Must have been all the corruption in the company considering the adoption of the M16 was done through money. Its obvious, Vietnam comes by and the U.S adopts a 5.56s rifle, too cut through jungle brush? Has plastic parts? Don't even comment saying that was the way it had to be. The M16 has many great aspects, but in certain situations it doesn't, like a battle rifle does.
