Oklahoma USA here.... Congratulations to Eilish McColgan and the entire country of Scotland. She ran a thrilling and flawless race. Nothing but respect.
😎Check out Victoria Cameron, Aria Pearce, Camden Capehart, Jordan Kilganon and Mac McClung also🙂😎 These awesome athletes and awesome people get ignored and its disgusting 🤢 The loser media focuses on Colorado Buffs and Deon Sanders🤢🤮
McColgan was the pre race favourite, with the best time leading up to this final. This was NOT a shock. I am English, and if I were a gambling man I would have put money on McColgan, she was that mush the better runner in that final!
@ ALWAYS Scottish fullstop🥰😁 But you know as soon as any Scot wins or achieves anything they all of a sudden get claimed as British by media and everyone outside of Scotland🙄😒😂 I don’t know about anyone else, but the emotion she had when they played the National Anthem was enough to instantly have me well up as well?!😑.. Is always pure pride when it’s one of our own, no matter the outcome!💙🏴
The Scotswoman was phenomenal at the end of the race - I enjoyed seeing her turn on the afterburners 😍❤️ - her run reminded me of the 1981 movie, "Chariots of Fire," which told the story of the 1924 Olympics, and its athletes - one being the Olympic Champion, Scotsman Eric Liddell - the Scots are a tough breed of runners.
From Ontario Canada, I just want to say that I give this performance a thousand likes!! I can't even tell you how awesome that is to see. I'm an endurance runner and I get pumped when I'm seeing others putting out gut wrenching runs to win! Good on ya young lady, RunToWin!!
What makes this even more amazing is that her mum did exactly the same thing at the Edinburgh Commonwealth Games, something I saw live. They also look remarkably alike and have the same gangly, loose running style.
I’ve watched this finish over and over and can’t get enough of it. The grit and determination Eilish displayed were other worldly! A well fought victory ❤💪🥇❤
If you look at her face with 3/4 of a lap to go you can clearly see how she won......she was in agony but instead of caving she just kept digging and digging. Pure depth of character......a true champion!
I have to take my hat off to all of these ladies. When you watch how fast they are, and then consider that they're doing that over 10K, it is almost unfathomable.
The only thing missing is "Croí Cróga" playing in the background. What an incredible athlete and runner McColgan is. She was absolutely flying around the track!
Congratulations, Bonnie Scotland, well done McColgan,we all admire your tenacity ,will power determination and strength,,we are proud of your girl, God bless Scotland
Good job love, you ran great, you ran your race and you can run faster, now you know what you are capable of outstanding GREETINGS FROM NOLA. God bless 🙌
Beautiful! Now that we know what the young lady can do we should expect the same again. Congratulations Eilish, great job. And to the commentator, get over yourself about the Africans being unbeatable.
On 4 March, 2023 after five weeks of altitude training in Colorado, McColgan broke Radcliffe's 21-year British 10,000 m record by 0.23 s with a time of 30:00.86 at the Sound Running The TEN in San Juan Capistrano, California. In Europe only Sifan Hassan had run faster
What I love about this sport is it can't be faked or questioned for corrupt judging. A win is 100% earned and excellence is rewarded. What's Scotland feeding their women, isn't that Muir girl Scottish too? 😀
Eilish's mum Liz (Lynch) McColgan was the forerunner for so many Scottish female athletes. Her dad, Peter was a NI Athlete. Both Liz and Eilish have/had that gangly, Bambi on ice style of running that Coaches would try to train out. Didn't stop them (or Paula Radcliffe with her nodding head action) from becoming Elite Athletes. Kudos to the crowd too. It was so emotional with those Scots in the crowd cheering Eilish all the way around.
In high school, I used to run the 400 and 800 relay. I was feeling pretty good by the time the two-mile started so I said to myself "Self, why not"? I led the race by large margins the first four or six laps. Feeling pretty impressed by myself at this point! Reality came crashing through! I ended the race roughly 2/3rds back from the winner. But I bet I screwed up some runners' strategies! LOL The point is...I know personally that you MIGHT run longer distances or at least try. I have NEVER seen a distance runner try to compete in the mid-range 400 or even the 800 or mile relay! But she really impressed here! Really impressed!!!
Supreme effort shown there by Eilish, and I'm sure she surprised herself with that run too. Now she will feel that she can go up to marathons with a bit more confidence in her own mind. Liz will be incredibly pleased for her daughter, just because she believes in her wholeheartedly, not because she is her mum! I've been watching Eilish grow up on the track, and remember her mum showing her off as a baby at a meet! Total respect to her, and of course, lots of love, for this golden girl for Scottish and UK athletics. WELL DONE EILISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You're hammering on the "Scottish girl vs Kenyan running machine" meme WAY too hard. FYI, her NAME is Irene Cheptai, not "the Kenyan runner". You used her name once, while referring to her as "the Kenyan runner/girl" 13 times. This was a great race between 2 great runners Elish McColgan and Irene Cheptai. They are both human beings with names.
Eilish was 12 years old when I walked up to her mother, who was standing next to her, and I asked for Liz's autograph. Eilish's eyes rolled up and she tossed her head back as if to say, oh no, not another one.

What a run. I've watched Eilish for what feels like years, and this was a fantastic performance and well deserved.
Beautiful, you Scottish lass! We are so proud of you. Best wishes from Pretoria.
I am an Englishman, but this lady from Scotland made my day, what a run.

The height advantage sure helps. When they lapped the Aussie runner, the Kenyan lost her concentration.

Well said. Cannot believe how this guy is selling the idea that Eilish was a shock win.

The flying Scotswoman! Excellent stuff! Well done! Cheers Mark!
It's sweet how she was "drafting" the Kenyan and pushing her pace beyond her capabilities...,Amazing run...All of Scotland should be proud.
The Kenyan lost her concentration when they lapped the Aussie runner.
William Wallace, too 😂
Yeaaaaaaaaa, real women, NO PRETENDERS .
Scotland also has Laura Muir who beat the field in the 1 mile race recently. Laura destroyed the field.
Wow. Two very fast Scottish ladies.
That was unbelievable!! That kick at the end and lapping two girls !!!Awright hen , on ye go.🏴

Just engaged the warp drive in the last 100 metres or so - love it! 🫡
That's a great story!! Good for you Scottish lass, Bravo Bravo ❤❤❤
Ellish looked very comfortable tucked in behind the Kenyan athlete letting her do all the work and pacing off her, great race.

She is no ordinary Scottish girl, she is from running royalty.
As you can see, the Kenyan runners were really dominating. I saw her 2 strides behind when this comment was made.
OHH brother,,,,, it made me weep a little too,,, knowing how much manpower, will and struggle to win a race like that...
Manpower? I don't think so.
