This is the first time I have heard Tori. I am very impressed. She has a great talent. Thank you.
Chod! Have you noticed how, when Tori's just speaking, she has the same deep contralto vocal range Karen did, which is helpful in her covers. The killer is this: She's covered Olivia Newton--John, and Olivia tends to go really high, and Tori does it. Tori's amazing. And that's not to mention she's very capable with sequencing software and multitrack recorders. It's difficult not to be gobsmacked once you learn about Tori. Oh, and she is a very nice person.

I enjoy listening to her sing and hope to hear more. Also have to give credit to the composer Burt Bacharach and his brilliance. He died last year.
She's 19 or 20 years old! She has a lovely voice. And she's cute. I've seen her playing the guitar. I'm curious to see her progress. Music is love!

Chod, I notice you haven’t done any for a while. I’ve kept an eye on, but I figure maybe I’d ask. I hope all is well 🙏. I have two new Tori songs I’d love to have you see. We’ve Only Just Begun with Jim Wilkas doing a whole bunch to make this amazing video. Also Something To Believe In, her new single. A totally new song written in the mold of a Bacharach/Carpenters song and given to Tori to sing. Guess how she does on both of these? I’m not going to tell, that’s for you to find out. Tori is awesome. She is the closest to Karen I’ve ever heard.
One quick thing. Karen was singing lead, harmonizing and drumming live in the basis performance on Sullivan. That’s mind blowing too! If you haven’t seen it, Chod, you must. It also enhances what Tori did, minus the drums/music. LOL.

You should react to the original artists who sang Mr. Bacharach’s songs . He choreographed many of the recordings himself and chose the singers. There is a sophisticated sound to his music that music today is lacking.
This was based on the Ed Sullivan Show performance. Go watch that. Note for note. It’s the midpoint tribute part.
I listened to the original recording of this medley by the Carpenters and tried to synchronized it. It was SOOOOOOO CLOSE!

Hi Chod! You know I’m having a pick-nik out here. I love introducing Tori to new folk and seeing reactions like yours, especially when you come from a musicians perspective. Now that you have seen this, I have some reference material that’s not so much a spoiler. Two years ago an 18 year old Tori demonstrated trying to replicate the way Richard and Karen did their harmonies. I think you know the vast majority of harmonies on records were just them. There were exceptions but majority. She cites Chris May in the video, he produced, arranged and played piano on Georgia, two years later! It was her attempt (she released it how do you think it went, back then?) to do the harmony from We’ve Only Just Begun. Listen to her voice! Trying a link, it’s a 3 minute Short.

I hope that works. Now for The Medley you just watched. It took me dozens of viewings and referring back to the Carpenters version, that she inserted, to realize; Walk On By is a DUET. She is looking right at the camera and going Looooow for “Richard” and Hiiiigh for “Karen” and harmonizing in between. Of course she does ALL THE VOICES. “Richard” is in earlier harmonies also. You will see her do this in the video I linked above.
Now for the icing. It’s after the season but. In 2022 (at 19) she recorded 3 songs in Ohio. One was Merry Christmas, Darling. If you know Karen’s version, 5 seconds in to Tori’s cover you will get a full on chill down your spine. I have watched every cover on UA-cam this past year. It only takes 5 seconds to say (in my mind, I’m not that rude) nice try, listen to Tori for a cover. Since we’re past the season and the demo isn’t really a song, these are more for your edification. And fun. I’ll use keywords as it will go right to it and not auto start. (Not on Tori’s channel)

As of now there are 4 more full songs, 3 Christmas songs and Superstar. That last one is a different arrangement, for Tori, of the classic Carpenters song. If you search Tori Holub Reaction you’ll see my handiwork. I’ve been busy. BTW Tori already put your first video in her “Reactions” playlist on her main channel. ❤️ There are tons of Shorts and some are different or longer depending on the platform, all the usual suspects, they’re on. Where Darling resides are two more songs.

Please tell me she doesn't use auto tune. Sounds like Karen Carpenter.
No autotune, no pitch correction. Just pure talent. You can hear those when they’re used. The voice sounds “metallic.” She does do all her own mixing, layering etc. She is all the voices. I left a demo from 2 years ago in a comment to Chod.

That was the Music Mindset. He did a mini-doc on Tori he was so blown away. I learned stuff from him!
She is definitely the closest to Karen there is.
