Hey Tori. Thanks much. Love your voice and personality. You are certainly welcome. You were recommended by Joe, here in the comment section. Take care, and the very best to you!
Oh she plays...look for Heart by Tori Holub Short... amazing...as far as I've seen, she plays guitar, keys, and does her own recording and mixes....a girl after my own ❤... She's incredible in her own right. Listen to her Bread Song Baby Ima Want You ...i believe... Georgia on my mind gave me chills... Only the extremely talented , wait, I mean Gifted, give me chills...
I love the way she has a similar intonation as Karen, but her voice is unique to her which is wonderful. She does sound more like Karen on account of the Carpenters' track in the background. Beautiful; lovely. Tori's voice and demeanor brings her listeners joy.
So far I know she plays keyboard and guitar. Edit: I just recently noticed. On her Short cover of The Beatles, Now And Then. In her “Studio” there is now … a drum kit. OMG.
Listen to her sing "You've only just begun". Is she 3 octaves like Karen? I don't know. I grew up with The Carpenters and they are irreplaceable. Lori is the closet I've heard to date. She's 20 and has a ways to go for experience. Losing Karen at 32 was a crime. It's fulfilling as hell-o to see a 20 year old that sings 50 year old music ...,and enjoys it! There's little money to be made with this style of music in 2024. There is hope for humanity. A tiny bit but still.
Hi one more time on this, Dax. I was thinking. If you want a full song that is Tori in full “Karen mode” my choice is and search “Tori Holub Merry Christmas Darling” She did that last year with the other two songs on the page this will bring you too. She didn’t hold back on this full homage. For Pure Tori, Christmas Again and Georgia On My Mind will get you that. I’d love to know her range given what she can hit cleanly on Never Been Mellow?? I asked, Fil won’t do unknowns yet. Joe Update: 3/20/24 Fil DID analyze Tori, and boy howdy did it explode! Wings of Pegasus channel if interested.
Hi Dax and thanks for the shout out! A couple of things, of course she’s not Karen but she evokes the vibes. She’s an Alto and of course we know Karen was a Contralto, a step lower. Thing is Karen had a 3.5 octave range. I have no idea yet Tori’s range but go to her UA-cam channel and play (most of her videos are Shorts) Have You Never Been Mello. Explain to me how she does THAT?? Is she ON-J? Of course not but she evokes. Thing is as you explore her Short videos (no spoilers for either of us) she is something and can sing the songs of our youth. Another special Short is a slightly longer one, it’s 3 minutes and she shows how she’s doing the layering using We’ve Only… as her example. To answer your question, just like Karen and Richard back in the day she is ALL the voices as she has no “Richard.” She demos that in the 3 minute video. She has 4 released and licensed songs including a brand new song given to her by a song writing team. One member of that team wrote All You Get From Love Is A Love Song for Carpenters. They think a lot of Tori. That song is “Christmas Again” and it’s on UA-cam as a Short video on her channel and an audio full song under her secondary channel. Searchable. In her Short videos including Now And Then and she’s not emulating John, it’s just haunting. I think you felt what I’m feeling. Oh and the pacing, go back and refresh your memory on the Ed Sullivan (nice midway homage) Show. It’s a jazzy “caffeinated” pace. Richard later regretted the fast pace, personally, I love it! In 1974 they re-did it a slower pace with a few more songs. This one Tori covered is magical, now I bounce between Sullivan and Tori. When you have time and check her stuff out, oh she’s a Carpenters super-fan how cool is that at 20!, drop me a reply on what you thought. Be well and happy holidays! Joe
Hey Joe. One of the problems with doing a medley, back to back, is it can be difficult to fully emotionally connect with each song, and feeling it necessary to do a caffeinated tempo, which I’m not crazy about. She’s obviously got tons of talent and elegance. it’s wonderful to see someone her age greatly value the older icons. I’m quite curious to hear how she does with the ONJ songs. Thanks again for the recommendation. Sure appreciate it!
@@daxmusix Richard created the original version (Sullivan Show and “Carpenters” album) at the request of Burt. So it’s a legacy version. I know the songs, so I know how they were but this is a different Jazzier take. Still one of my all time faves, especially because Karen drums on Sullivan. I believe Hal Blaine did the album version. So Tori was faithful to the Album and Sullivan (no C2U) versions). If she covers a Dionne version the tempo will be slower. I’m 67 so I think we’re close in experience. We know both versions and have our faves. I respect Tori a lot for her effort to learn and master the old (our) songs. How special is that. One other note, if I may. Did you catch what Tori did on Walk On By? That’s a duet song. Richard does the male character in the performance. Tori is alone, so she just goes looooow for the male part. Wow! I hope you enjoy her channel, there’s some interesting stuff there. She is very talented. Joe
@@daxmusixwell ask and ye shall receive. Tori just dropped a new song of an old classic. I’ll use keywords rather than link. I hope you see this. There’s info in the video page. Just a cover slide audio only. Tori Holub Georgia On My Mind That will get you there and is a spoiler. Yup, she went there. Pure Tori. Joe
@@jbs256 Hey Joe. I just listened to her version of Georgia on my mind. Her voice reminds me of a blend between Karen Carpenter and Eva Cassidy. Quite nice. The only criticism I might have is that it’s not emotionally penetrating, sounding very much like a lovely lounge singer. The gut-wrenching Ray Charles version spoils me, I suppose. Tori’s even tone didn’t quite get me. Thanks for letting me know.
@@daxmusix I commented on her FB page that in the late 90’s at a Comdex computer convention show at a WordPerfect after show dinner. I saw Ray Charles perform on a circular riser stage in the middle of the ball room. I was about 20’ away all standing room around the stage. When he did Georgia, I melted. I mean 🤷🏻♂️. Maybe I’m just getting the connection to Tori the person and the voice, she moves me. I could be her grandpa, I’d be a proud grandpa.
I really like the Carpenter's but sorry I have to respectfully disagree. This is every bit as good as Karen. Many Karen Carpenter fans find so hard to amit theres someone out there that is as good and can't give credit where credit is due. This 24 year old is going far !
Hey there!! Wow, thank you SO much for reviewing my video, and for all the kind words!! Love your channel!!

I agree that no one can touch Karen. However, this girl doesn’t try to re-invent Karen. She honors her with skill and impeccable interpretation.
Her diction is amazing - such clean and crisp vocals.

I'm impressed. If only she could sing like that while skillfully playing the drum kit? That's the biggest difference.

she does a great version of we only just begun
I close my eyes and... I swear Karen has been reincarnated as a Blonde!

She's amazing. Does Richard Carpenter know of her?
Yes!
Chris May works with Tori and Richard.

Wow that was great… not Dion or Karen but close.
You should also check out the English singer, Harriet. Try Harriet-Home(Michael Buble cover) OR Harriet-Grown Up Christmas List.
