    I first saw this video and all the other 60 Day Challenge Rocksmith stuff last year mid September. I had a guitar that I never learned to play sitting in my house for 20 human years (I'm 36). I bought Rocksmith and played everyday for just 15-30 minutes for 60 days and then re-watched the videos and realized I was on the same skill level as all the people in them. Now just after five months I am playing about 1-2 hours a day. Don't dismiss Rocksmith as a valid teaching tool because it is a game. Six months ago all I could play was an open E chord, now I can actually play guitar and bass guitar enough to impress friends and family.

    I tried learning guitar on my own from youtube videos before i got Rocksmith and i learned much faster with rocksmith. i think it really comes down to the psycological rewards given to you by the game. it also really helped me to realise when i played something wrong.

    I bought rocksmith and a bass guitar for my son for Christmas. It is amazing how much he has learned. The "game" for lack of a better word is very instructional and suggests lessons based on the areas he needs to improve. I would suggest it for anyone wanting to learn guitar. Either casually or more intently.

    Man this game is a great jam tool for guitarists who knew how to play before the game. Its so much fun to just jam away at your favorite songs without even looking at the screen. What I love the most about it is not having to plug in my amp and pedals to match tones. I can just play and it does the switching to the appropriate sounds for a particular song.

    I've got a les paul. Love it. To all starting guitar players.. Don't forget to work on vibrato, also string damping on the bridge. These two lessons from old time teachers, Andy Aledort, Arlon Roth, as well as a plethora of others will help you sound good even if your starting. Play great music for yourself. New strings help even the crappy guitar sound better. Learn to tune by ear. A great little tube amp and a couple great effects. Also get a good cord it really helps. I love my Gibson, but I've had to work on it. The cord input jack needed shined up and bent in to improve contact with the cord end. That simple fix really helped open up the over all sound.

    I've been playing this game for a week now. From not even knowing how to pick properly before day 1, I have mastered a song, mastered 6 other songs to above 50%, and legitimately learned techniques necessary to play guitar. All I need now is some basic music theory (scales, roots, etc.) and I'll be a proper guitarist, and even that I'm starting to take a slight understanding towards.
    All this in one week, mind you. I can't wait to see how the next 7 weeks will go!

      Keep going. There are scale mini games. Also I go into session mode and learn the scales there. That way you can play around with them longer and see the whole neck.

    Kerfuffleinahussle
    This game uses the concept of gamification to enhance learning, and it works. Gamification has been proven to enhance learning and performance of even complicated tasks, and it will become even more common as people find more ways to implement it. You may or may not benefit from it in this case (have you ever tried it or anything else like it?), but so many more people will. Also, be mindful that even if you may not see the merit in a thing, it does not mean that there is no merit there. If you don't understand it, it may not be the wisest thing to immediately judge it as 'dumb'.

      1: Recommended songs is not listed
      2: The numbers on the guitar neck displayed was confusing cause i have no idea how to check that on my guitar without counting from 1 to the number needed untill the note is gone from the song so i miss many notes :S

    I do enjoy this game. I can see this to be very good for those like me. Those who played guitar in their early years or in high school and got out of the habit of practicing or playing in general can find this to be really fun. I was involved with the schools band back then. Some of the senior pics of me involved my Fender Jaguar and or Martian. We already know what we are doing with the instrument along with different ways things can be played, but just haven't played much since then. Being able to get some practice in and it all comes back to us naturally. Then we can get back to do what we used to on a regular basis.

    as a guitar player, id say semi-professional , i teach at a studio and have been in various bands... this seems like a pretty cool way to learn quick, but having started playing at the age of 10 and now 22, there is nothing that learning from a PERSON and getting that hand on experience that a video game can ever take. that being said, guitar hero is a blast to play even on expert it sometimes gets difficult. but i would much rather play with people than with my playstation.

      Rocksmith is probably the best thing for an on-the-fence beginner. If you want to learn to play, but you're not absolutely devoted to learning the instrument, Rocksmith helps because it teaches you songs so that you feel like you're making music sooner. Learning chords and proper technique (no matter how essential) is something likely to turn a lot of players off if they don't get some 'instant action'

UA-cam videos are useless for me, guitar lessons at guitar stores are boring, and I can only play happy birthday on my guitar. I only know one or two chords. 😭😭😭😭

    This seems to be good proof supporting the merits of "learning everyone elses songs" (from wikipedia)
    "Slash decided to switch from bass to guitar after hearing Wolin play "Brown Sugar" by the Rolling Stones.[26] His decision to play guitar was further influenced by one of his school teachers, who would play songs by Cream and Led Zeppelin for his students. As a result, Slash stated, "When I heard him do that, I said, 'That's what I want to do.'"

    Aaron, I bought the game yesterday, I have a few questions...
    1. Did you learn rhythm or lead guitar?
    2. What did you play the most? (Mini games, learn a song, or just watched a lot of lessons)
    Thank you, I am new to the guitar but I know it'll be fun!

    • @AaronAKPParrish
      @AaronAKPParrish 10 років тому

      Hey Clay, congrats on buying the game. I mostly practice lead (because everybody wants to lead right?), but I also practice rhythm (because just because you want to lead doesn't mean you will. lol), and I mess with the bass a little. I mostly learn songs, but I also use all of the other features too. As far as blisters and calluses goes, my finger tips hurt for the first two or three weeks. I never had blisters though. Just take a rest/break if you have to. Even if it's for a day or two. Eventually the pain will subside. Thanks for the questions and have fun!

    • @claybrown2895
      @claybrown2895 10 років тому

      Aaron "AKP" Parrish
      Thank you so much for responding. I chose rhythm because I want to know chords to start. I have played for exactly five days and have already mastered one of the harder songs (I have played it about 160 times already). I also have one more big question, how much time did you spend on it per day? The challenge says 1 hour per day, but because it is so addicting, I play literally about 5 hours a day. Every day after school I gain about 10 percent mastery but within 30 minutes of that I just play repetitively and can't progress. But the next day the same thing happens. So my question is, is it necessary to play so much?
      Thanks a lot.

    • @AaronAKPParrish
      @AaronAKPParrish 10 років тому

      Clay Brown Hey Clay, the game is VERY addictive. I played more than an hour a day. That's just the minimum. I recommend practicing away from the software also. That way you can hear how you really sound and adjust accordingly. Get a practice amp if you don't have one already. I got an amp from a pawn shop for a great deal. But I say play 'til you can't play no more!! It's a lot of fun!

    Anyone can learn to play guitar, noone requires lessons if you have enough drive to do something you can do it, I'm simply saying technology is taking over everything, everyone is worried about what's the fastest way they can do something, I take a lot more pride in the fact that I tought myself with no aid from anyone than someone should who got taught or plays rocksmith.

    • @kimlindblom6964
      @kimlindblom6964 10 років тому +6

      That sounds a bit ignorant.. Why make it harder for yourself if you can learn faster/better somehow?
      With your reasoning there shouldn´t be any youtube tutorials/tabs of songs since you take more "pride" in reading from good old music books?

    • @codyharris3503
      @codyharris3503 10 років тому

      i apologize if i sound ignorant, im simply saying that this world is just concerned about the fastest way to do something not the best way to do something, for example lets say that a person who plays rocksmith for 60 days achieves the skill level of someone whos been playing 6 years, th person playing rocksmith doest have technique, or any originality and doesnt know the trial and error of learning the guitar bottom line its just a much richer experience to teach yourself

    5 days in and i still suck major A$$. My main difficulty is finding the right string to play. The frets position is not too hard to master but when you need to play different strings fast, i get all confused.

      It'll come in time, just don't give up! You'll get it! I used to suck ass, but I kept going and played lead guitarist for a high school jazz band

      Takedo is right, guitar isn't something you'll quickly get used to but trust me, you'll get it down quick in time and next thing you know, you'll be wondering how to tackle on hard solos and cool riffs. Keep practicing!

      You can also try practicing a bit with the mini-game called String Skip Saloon. It helps with gauging where the strings are.

      badb37t the game is sponsored by epiphone. If you look at all the sucess stories eveyone has a epiphone, which makes me think that these are kinda fake

    • @jakes1591
      @jakes1591 7 років тому +3

      they were given instruments to record their 60 day stories. a company backed by epiphone.. they probably got paid to do it, but don't they deserve it?
      They had to learn guitar, record a vlog for 60 days, and be used in a promotional content. that's not free

    • @sigge2055

      Sean j but in one video he one guy says that he hasnt touched his guitar in like some years and goes and finds a brand new epiphone. i dont know it might be as you said but i kinda Think its fake

      ***** yeah i agree, i have a epiphone myself and i have learned Everything i can on my epiphone with rocksmith 2014 and its a good game and a good guitar but i still Think that the sucess stories are a bit fake, thats it, im still gonna love the game :)

    • @badb37t

      I love the game but some stuff you just find easier to pick up by ear using your own amp and different turnings that the game doesn't have to play around with.

    So you feel better than somebody because you learned to play guitar from books and not from a video game? I agree that technology is taking over every thing, but this is just a video game. Some people buy this game because they want to have fun. If a great guitar player learns to play guitar from Rocksmith is he less than an average guitar player?

      Only if you buy the version that includes guitar. They make different versions of the game, with or without the guitar and the cord needed to plug the guitar to a computer. Obviously, it's pretty easy to spot which package contains an entire guitar :v

    so chris oke, what does it take for someone to be able to call themselves a guitar player? ie. someone who plays guitar. im pretty sure thats the definition. but i mean according to you being able to play guitar and continue learning and improving doesnt come close to be able to call yourself a guitar player
