  • Today, I want to address one of the most common conditions I come across in my clinic: keratosis pilaris (KP). This skin condition affects people of all races and sexes and typically starts in childhood, becoming more noticeable during the teenage years. Surprisingly, up to 50% of us have the genes for KP, although it manifests to varying degrees in different individuals. The good news is that it often improves as we age.
Managing KP and making your skin look better is absolutely possible. In my experience, a combination approach works best. KP involves both a barrier issue and a skin cell differentiation problem, so we need to tackle both aspects to enhance the appearance of your skin.
In today's video, I'll share my two-step approach to treating keratosis pilaris. By following these steps, you'll be able to improve the appearance of your skin and, ultimately, boost your skin confidence.
As always, thank you for your ongoing support!

Hey! Can you do a video on Keratosis Pilaris Rubra Faceii? KPAF, atrophoderma vermiculata, Erythromelanonis folliculitis facei et colli? How to tell these conditions apart, which retinoid is best for it such as tretinoin or Tazarotene. The difference in the retinoids, ) many people struggle with these issues. I have heard accutane can clear it and make it come back after discontinuing. I have also heard tretinoin can easy be manage KPRF.
I read a study you can google for Topical Sirolimus cream 1% which almost completely eliminated it. Please this condition is so overlooked.

Thank you very much for such an informative video. My 5yr olds arms are covered with KP. Just wondering if it's better to leave it alone at this age or whether applying a simple child suitable moisturizer now would help to reduce it when she's older. Thank you ☺️

Use a rich cream with paraffin/petroleum like cetraben or e45. Over time it will improve the appearance of the KP according to several blinded placebo controlled studies. If you’re child is prone to eczema or allergies use ointment from cetraben or hydromol instead as they don’t contain preventatives which can be irritating to the delicate skin.

I feel I've tried every lotion on the market for my kp over the last 20 years. Some of them help a little. Last week I started with Dr Sam's, just at night and all my bumps flattened in a few days😅. I still have faint red marks so Im going to keep going and incorporate a gentle shower product. Thanks so much Dr Sam xxxxxx🎉

Thank you very much for your video. I use the Cerave SA smoothing cleanser in a Luke warm shower, harder to do in the winter 😂 it was good to know not to scrub my skin hard with an exfoliating cloth 😅

The same - just take care with UV exposure in the daytime and wear high factor broad spectrum sunscreen if outdoors.

None of this has worked for me. My KP along with thousands of other females got terribly worse after having a baby. I strongly believe it is hormone related in females. Stop wasting money on topical treatments and see a hormone specialist.
