Perhaps - I agree 100%. She was excellent. That was one of the things with Jackie Gleason. He had a great eye for finding outstanding supporting cast members. He also allowed for plenty of opportunities for those cast members like Ethel Owen, Audrey Meadows, and above all Art Carney to get many, if not most of the laughs.
Ethel Owen and Jackie Gleason worked together in vaudeville acts. Gleason knew her, they were friends, and Gleason thought she would be perfect for this part. She played her part to the T.
She came across as genuine, and she allowed Gleason to do his thing.
Watch the scene and focus on her. She did an outstanding job, even in the last second as she slams the door -- look at her face.
And at 3:09, I wish that there was footage of her face.
Having Gleason unload on you is a real treat. She got the full treatment. Who would not enjoy having "The Great One" up close and personal, hollering at you?
Perhaps - I agree 100%. She was excellent.
That was one of the things with Jackie Gleason. He had a great eye for finding outstanding supporting cast members. He also allowed for plenty of opportunities for those cast members like Ethel Owen, Audrey Meadows, and above all Art Carney to get many, if not most of the laughs.
Ethel Owen and Jackie Gleason worked together in vaudeville acts. Gleason knew her, they were friends, and Gleason thought she would be perfect for this part. My goodness, Ethel and Alice, Audrey Meadows, actually look very similar and could actually be mother and daughter. Ages are right and their appearances, the way they look, being mother and daughter match, too. Hysterical.
@@nycinstyle True. But again, she was an outstanding actress. Gleason was very good at spotting great talent. Art Carney was one of the greatest ever.
@@Woozler554 I agree. He called her because he knew they work great together, she is a real pro. He knew she is a terrific comedic actress.
Gleason says that Carney a champion. I always remembered that when I watched him on Marciano's show about 30 years ago. You can see it now on youtube. Marciano had Gleason as a guest on his show, and Gleason talks about Art Carney, calling Carney a champ.

@@nycinstyle Interesting clip. But I'm going to tell you that video is a lot more than 30 years old!
I never forget this and every so often watch it again. B L A B B E R M O U T H !
Jackie Gleason one of my favorite comedian / television personalities along with Red Skelton and the Three Stooges some of the best television shows of all time
That battle-axe had it coming to her; she undoubtedly gave away the ending of the play out of provocation
but also kept running Ralph down & Alice didn't say a damn thing
Then in next scene Ralph gave ending away to Norton. The mother in law may have been a "blabber mouth," but Ralph had a "BIG MOUTH," which he admitted to many times.
Rita Colton ,who played the mother- in -law was excellent as well...that obnoxious, irritating voice made it all funny.
@@allang.2338 Ralph's mother-in-law was played by Ethel Owen (1893-1997) who lived to be 103 years young, outliving both Jackie Gleason and Audrey Meadows
You can watch this a hundred times and it never gets old. Brilliance and goes to show you the huge talent that of Jackie Gleason was.
One of the funniest shows of all time! And this show in particular is hilarious 😂
I agree this is one of the best acted comedic parts in the movie. I’m specifically talking about how Alice keeps a straight face while Ralph is calling her mom a blabbermouth over and over. Lol
This is one of my all-time faves- countless times I've watched!
Get ready for Mt. Kramden to erupt! 🌋
BOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
Wait for it... wait for it... wait for it!!!!
@@georgemaster689 OK wow.
It was a simple set that never changed. No vulgarity. No sexy women. Just pure talent. And, of course, the great one.
Beautiful women were there.
One of the many funniest scenes from one classic HALARIOUS shows of all time.
I think the entire sewer system of NYC should be changed to : The Edward L. Norton Sewer system of NY embossed on ALL the manhole covers! !!!! SUPER COOL!
Great clip..gleason and alice were fantastic...
RIP John Herbert "Jackie" Gleason, Audrey (Cotter) Meadows, and whoever played Alice's mother.
Fabulous acting by all three actors. Such great talent like this is missing today.
"I don't doubt the food bill is high, but how much of the food are your getting" ha ha ha ha .
Every New Year's Eve it's tradition to watch The Honeymooner's since the 80's WPIX 11
Once again I enjoyed watching the New Year's Eve marathon of The Honeymooners.
Can't wait to next new years to do the same thing again. Hey I can't help it The Honeymooners are an epic TV show plus I also enjoy watching
Jackie Gleason...one of Brooklyn's finest!
Same one that played Aunt Ethel. I can understand what Ralphs going through. The Voice alone would drive anybody crazy
Terrific live comic action. The timing of all these pros shames ALL modern laff tracks! Bravo and thanks.😊
One of the best scenes of this show.
Even when Ralph says nothing, he is so funny with expressions
This episode is my absolute favorite and go to when I need to feel good..The best show on TV ever !! Thank You for posting this !! XO
When domestic violence IS the right answer. I couldn't have worked with Gleason....the outtakes from me laughing and fucking up would have been endless 😂
The gutteral "OUT!!" at 3:23 makes me laugh every time.
have you seen the clip where someone superimposes Trumps image over the mother? PRICELESS
@@28mark
I've never seen that!
BLABBERMOUTH!!!!😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣 how much of the food are you getting lmbo
And of course the audience cheers Ralph on because they can all see that he's right for once. Especially after the way the old bat spoils everything by revealing the end to a play he hasn't seen yet. ALICE'S MOM IS A BLABBERMOUTH!
Reminds me my ex mother in law a real old bat😂
even after the 100th time it's still funny.
