I’m on Team 13-inch even though I’m still rocking my M2 iPad Pro 12.9.
For me it's boring. Yes, you get a bigger screen, but battery life is roughly the same. And what annoys me is that reviewers most of the time get the biggest and greatest. Doesn't matter if an iPad, the iPhone, Apple Watch or MacBook. Sure, get what you want! But too few reviewers make videos about the same apple products with the same size. Show how to use the tinier apple watch! How is it, to work with the 11" iPad? Is it comfortable to have a smaller iPhone?
But at this point Terren always had the small iPads I think, so it's a completely new experience for him. And the video is still great!
Haven’t used 13 inch, but I chose 11 for portability. I like how it fits in my bag and on the coffee shop table.
I like the overall positivity for the 13” M4 iPad Pro! I love mine and I don’t expect it to completely replace my Macbook Pro. Too many reviews are laser focused on the idea of replacing your Mac with the iPad. I too have been a little dissappointed with the battery life. Working with MS apps, email, and UA-cam can bring down the battery pretty quickly for me. It’s not horrible, but I definitely have to charge at the end of the day. Thanks for the refreshing content!

Absolutely agree with the 5G. Ever since experiencing cellular on an iPad, I’ve only been buying exclusively the Wifi+5G version. Not having the anxiety of not knowing if there’s gonna be a wifi connection or not, your iPad randomly disconnecting from web or hotspot tearing through your phone’s battery is a total gamechanger. Plus the most annoying part of having a wifi only iPad - when you get blasted by a ton of notifications when you finally connect your iPad to the net after a few hours of being offline - getting rid of that alone is THE reason for me to go for a cellular model for sure.
Ha, my case is exactly the opposite. My iPad is my distraction free device, for focus work - reading, researching, note-taking - so notifications are off by default at all times, and of course no need to be always connected, for browsing hotspot is more than enough. But yeah, for people who it as their main computer I can see how 5G can be so much more convenient.

11 inch all the way!!! I own a 13 inch touchscreen latop asus x13 and have never used the touch screen because of how bulky it feels, inside and outside.

This is my first iPad, I got it as a replacement for my 2019 Intel MacBook Pro. The iPad is a great medium between a Laptop and the iPhone. With the Magic Keyboard I get the laptop, and I can just remove the iPad and use it as a tablet. Best purchase I’ve made in a while !

Terren, so glad that you are a YT’er that I follow that is an iPad noob and on a new adventure. I have relinquished my MB Air to my wife and a 13” iPad will be my daily, and no I do not expect it to be my new portable laptop-ish device. It’s an iPad, I have owned just plain Jane iPads for years. My use case always left me wanting more iPad features on my MB Air, than I want MBOS features on my iPad.
I have been flipping nickels on iPad Air vs Pro, Cell or No Cell, blah blah blah. So Thank you Terren for giving us a fresh glimpse into your iPad journey.

Totally I agree with you on the 11" size, It's both too big and too small at the same time. It's too big because you can't comfortably hold and type on it, but it's too small to be productive. I ended up selling it and getting an iPad Mini for using handheld with typing, content consumption, etc and a 12.9" when working with photography and an external display for productivity on the go.
I’m not surprised you are addicted to it. I’m addicted to my 12.9” M1 IPad Pro, just wish it had the camera in landscape position for Zoom calls etc like the M4 does.
Greetings from Australia. Love your videos. Congratulations on getting the 13inch BUT the 11inch just kicks ass! I returned my 13inch for the 11inch. So glad I did. Way more manageable. I don’t feel like an idiot taking it out of my bag when travelling on the train. The display finally gets the same quality this year as the 13 inch and its aspect ratio is 10x7 so it’s actually better when watching 16:9 content. The 4:3 aspect of the 13inch drove me nuts lol. I can easily live with the smaller screen realestate and the speakers are less loud but the sound quality is just as good. You still made a great choice with the 13 so I’m not hating on it. Just get more out of the 11inch in my use cases. Also the best part was I was able to return my 13inch 1TB for the 11inch 2TB wifi cellular version only paid $80 extra.
That's a lot of storage (2TB) do you recommend that amount. Is your 11" your primary computing device?
I did exactly the same as you…I bought the 13” iPad Pro and as soon as I got it I knew it was just not a portable tablet….so returned it and got the 11.5” iPad Pro and have never looked back. It’s just the right size … it’s portable with a great screen and heaps of power. If I want something larger to view I can link it to my Apple TV and watch movies and stuff on the large TV screen.
If you're on an iPhone, the auto connect to hotspot makes it pretty seamless. It's frictionless enough that I always just go for the WiFi version of the iPad (apart from making my macbook seem like it's got cellular itself). I think the advantages of having it built in on the iPad is the bigger battery, and the bigger antenna (from past personal experience).
Terren, great video, great information. I agree with you on the 13" vs 11". I honestly tried the 11" but the keyboard (my main source of input) just felt too small. I do have an iPad Mini so for reading, this is a good option. Even though I have a Macbook Air M1 with 16gb RAM and 1 tb of ssd, I still think of my iPad as my laptop. I have bought the cellular iPad pro 2018 and i have rarely used it, costs more and benefits who works alot outside doors, i think hotspot is more than enough.

Great video. I upgraded from the M2 Pro 11 inch to the 13 inch M4 and I’m glad I did. The magic keyboard is AWESOME and give the feeling of using my MacBook. I am honestly at the point where I think that I can replace my Macbook with this beautiful device….still in test mode tho. ❤

I hate that the M2 Air is MORE than capable of at least having 120hz ProMotion display and they choose not to add it. Come on! Let the tandem oled screen be a pro feature, but at least give the Air the 120hz display.
@@hugotipple They'd have a lot less sales on the Pro, they know what they're doing. I was genuinely considering getting the Air also, but then I went to an Apple Store and played with it and the 60hz just pierces thru my eyes, I'm too accustomed to ProMotion at this point. I was both slightly heartbroken & disgusted driving from there, getting an M2 powered 2024 device for 599$ seemed like such an incredible deal. I wonder what would Steve Jobs' reaction would be to deliberately underclocking a device to make a different one more appealing. I want the iPad to last me 4-5 years, there's no way I'm looking at a 60hz display in 2029. M4 it is. 😃
Nice review, and I agree how amazing the new M4 13 inch iPad is as an everyday device, as well as Goodnotes. I've been using it for 3 years on my iPad Mini. As for battery drain, I suspect that you're keeping the screen on full brightness. That will kill it much faster. I keep mine up to 75% brightness and it lasts the entire day.
Completely agree on the battery life. I’ve been using my iPad 13” M4 for work, including long Teams meetings and the battery just drains. Maybe 1/2 a day of work. I see both Teams and Zoom just sucks the battery.

Great review! I agree with you on how the 13” seems more appealing, but I can also relate with those who favor the 11” and it’s solely because you can fit it in smaller back packs. So while the idea of an iPad is NOT to replace the laptop, it remains true that if you want a laptop then you’d get the Apple MacBook Pro than to get a 13” iPad.
The biggest difference between your iPad and MacBook is the 5G you have turned on. That will kill your battery fast. No one else mentions it because they dont have or use 5G
This is not true. However there is some truth in the statement. Turning 5g on or off when using productivity apps has a negligible effect on battery life…there is one popular app that will drain the battery very quickly while streaming on 5g…and everyone with an iPad watching this video has it…and its the UA-cam app…i don’t know what google is doing but you can lstream netflix, Hulu, Disney+ etc. using half the battery life that UA-cam uses. I’m not sure what it’s about, but I’ve had a 2019, M1 and now M4 iPad Pro all with Data and this has been the case.
@@BlazePasThank you for this information. So, I have both an iPad Air 5th generation with 5G and I just had Verizon ship me the new M4 iPad Pro 13” also with 5G and you couldn’t be more right. UA-cam (and even WORSE…TikTok!!) just KILLS battery life even on the brand new M4 equipped iPad Pro.
I have the M1 iPad Pro 11 inch with 5G and yeah you’re right about it being nice. I hate having to look for WiFi sources and sometimes I am in environments where I would rather use my own private network vs a public WiFi network. My M1 iPad is still running great too and I can’t wait for iPadOS 18 🥹
I have the same one! I got the cellular version thinking I’d use it when I travel. However, I find that I just tether from my phone rather than paying for two 5g lines. I’m still happy to have it just in case.

I love my iPad Pro 13 inch, and my second overall iPad since 2012. Lots to love about this device. But in reference to the note taking app you talked about Goodnotes, that thing is $14.99 a year! For that price I need a one time purchase for life.
Hey Terren, I hear you, but have you used your 13” in the front seat of a truck or in economy class? Team 11” here. I came from team 12.9”. I really enjoyed it. Needs changed and the 11 just fits my program better. You’ll enjoy that 13”! Seems like a great choice for you!

Excited to get more into Lightroom and Photoshop on my iPad. With the Pencil, it’s great for retouching and drawing.
Coming from the 13inch 2018, I originally felt great about it, more screen size to comfortably do more work. But if you actually travel the 11inch is the one to get.

Highly recommend a matte glass screen protector to deal with reflections, especially outside. They’re available for so much less than PaperLike ones.
The 11 inch iPad is better for me because I use it out in the field in construction work and it's a lot easier to carry in a backpack or tool bag when climbing ladders and crawling around in attics.

The battery is usually like that the first week or so as the iPad learns from your usage. You can always turn off unnecessary background activity if you don’t need it.
I have the esr paperlike screen protector and it is amazing. I do alot of scribbling the Hebrew language and a lot of note taking. I recommend the Logitech combo keyboard case protector because it’s very useful.
I will purchase an iPro Pro 13-inch 256GB before the year ends. This will be my first time buying a 13-inch model.

Great video! I spoke about it in a similar video but 5G is SUCH a big deal when it comes to making to iPad a killer mobile machine. High speed connection anywhere. If they ever do bring an eSIM and antenna to MacBooks it’ll be insane.
I think the vast majority of us wish they would’ve kept the same thickness as prior, and just added a bigger battery.
The main reason Apple makes devices thinner is to keep the battery ‘small’, because they’ve done the math to ensure that the batteries age and wear at a rate which makes most people upgrade in ~2-3 years, rather than say ~5-6 years, so they can sell more devices… Since smaller batteries decay more quickly.
I get the business needs, but it’s just frustrating given they charge such a huge premium.
the iPadOS is the biggest problem I have. It takes some much more effort to get things done and most of the apps available on iPad OS are baby apps.

I’ve never had a situation where my phone wasn’t seamlessly available for hotspot - the watch and tablet have never replaced my phone in terms of EDC. I don’t want to pay my carrier monthly just to connect another device for 5G usage, it really isn’t worth it (already doing it on my watch and honestly ehhh)
Agreed about battery life (I have the M2 version). Now that the Mac Silicon MacBooks have outstanding battery life,Apple needs to get iPad in the same ballpark.
Is it just me or does it also give you chills to see him using that ipad with that ring on?! If you simply touch that ring on that screen by accident or while you're making a stroke with the apple pencil you'll end up with a huge scratch on your screen
my m1 ipad pro is my favorite portable device. Unfortunately for my work I can't use it without some workarounds so I need a laptop too. If they had a hybrid macos or terminal I would never use my computers lol

Great review. I tried to use Magic Keyboard in the past multiple times, and for both 11 and 12.9. Still have the 11 MKB that I never use. Having a MacBook Air 15 it always felt redundant to use iPad with MKB, and MBA always provided better typing experience than MKB. Perhaps, if I didn’t have a laptop I’d appreciate the MKB more, but since I have a laptop I just use an iPad (now 13 M4) as a tablet, and just use virtual KB when I want to type a comment like this one

Ive got the ipad pro 12.9 inch third generation. It’s great. Thinking of upgrading to the new iPad Pro with the M4 chip. If we got the full functionality of office 365 on it,then i could possibly use it as my new laptop

i follows all the three steps mentioned above , then too my ipad pro drains battery 5% in 20 min which is not satisfying!!
i only make notes in my tab and when power mode is off , at 50% brightness , 1% battery drains at every 3 min

Interesting personal review of the new Apple M4 13 inch iPad Pro.Although the iPad Pro learns your use habits and therefore optimizes the battery depletion rate.Apple should implement the delayed charging strategy algorithm that is used on the iPhones to prolong battery health.

Random one..i have the Apple Keyboard and for some reason when i attached my ipad, it tilts backwards and topples over. It does sit but not comfortably if that makes sense
I mean if you want to use it as a laptop, sure. But I prefer to use it as a tablet so the 11" makes more sense. If I want a laptop experience, the use a laptop. The iPad still sucks at being a laptop in my opinion. Just the file manager alone is a terrible user experience.
Also, hotspotting onto my 5G enabled iPhone from a Mac is the most basic thing I've ever seen. It's literally 2 clicks and it's connected. And yes, it's just as fast. Not sure what you're talking about there.

I’m studying Business Admin Cert 3.. I’m frustrated that the MS Word app doesn’t have complete features on iPad.. I hate Windows computer.. so I’m thinking of getting a Macbook Air M3😭
The screen has been 120hz on the ipad pro since 2017. Plus, the oled panel suffers from burn-in and flickering issue.
It has the tandem OLED though, which supposedly lasts a lot longer. The flickering though (PWM) for sure is still there. Mini LED has PWM though too.
OLED burn-in is a complete fallacy for just about every user on Earth. You’ll replace the device before you ever suffer burn-in on that panel.

Agreed! I purchased the M4 13 inch as well and battery is definitely worse than M1 11 inch.
Why would use it as a computer replacement though? The 11 inch is perfect for consumption, I love my 11 pro, 2018 and the M2. My 13 inch iPad Pro is just too big, it sitting mostly at home doing nothing.
I rarely comment on videos, but man yoh absolutely nailed this video! Totally agree with the batteey life thing. I have the older m1 iPad Pro, andyhebattery is degraded, yea sure, but it was never that great in the 1st place. I wish Apple could find a way to increase that. As long as you are using your iPad in a loght way, and dark mode (with Oled display) you canget a great SOT, but once you start pushing it the problems arrise

13 for me!
13 all the way. I switched to an 11 inch on my 4th gen iPad and I ended up hating it. The screen is small and if you plan on using this as your main or use it a lot for work even entertainment go with the 13. Went back to the 13 when I picked up the M4 and I love it. Use this exclusively
11 inch for me. It’s a tablet. I still use a MacBook Pro 16in.
11 for me. The 12.9 was great, but it was awkward to hold and for tight spaces like in a vehicle or plane, the 11 is just more manageable. Didn’t feel like I gave up a lot with the 11”. For me the 11” is just a more fun experience and gets the job done just as well.
If you already have a MacBook and/or use it in your hands a lot then 11” on the other hand if you use it more as a laptop with the keyboard then the 13”.
Do your hand still hurt note taking on the ipad?
Could it be the cellular draining the battery faster?
The worst thing about ipad is black bars when watching movies 😅
I feel the same about the battery life.
I love the 13in immersive content viewing but can’t stand the aspect ratio it really bothers me lol 🤷🏽♂️ so I stuck with the 11 inch plus more portable
