    Can’t wait to see what you end up doing with the engine build. My 347 was already in my car and I feel like it’s under powered because of the small trick flow heads on it. It’s making 340hp to the wheels but I know it can make more with larger heads and better intake.

    • @GearHead704
      @GearHead704  3 роки тому +2

      I'm going to try and get the biggest intake, heads, cam combo I can that will still be streetable, and will let you guys know what it makes. I'm hoping for 380, but we'll see.

    Horespower is so easy to buy these days, my faith in stock blocks is at an all time low. I would have a hard time building one. Now the 351 blocks are a bit stronger, and go 408 easily. Either an aftermarket 8.2 block or a 351 for me. I wish you well on this project and hope you meet or exceed your goals.

    • @GearHead704
      @GearHead704  3 роки тому

      Thanks Paul! Yeah the 351 will definitely hold a lot more power. Since I"m going NA only we should be good to go with this 347. I'll build a 408 one day.

      the benefit to a stroker low deck Windsor is exhaust clearance. gotta get the hot air out, and if you want to use a long runner or Tri Y header, the shorter deck height might help you clear a steering column etc.

  • @yarrdayarrdayarrda
    @yarrdayarrdayarrda 3 роки тому

    Sure hope your ATI dampener is close to his. Unless it was molested by the previous machinist, there was no reason to balance the crank with his "spec" dampener because you already have a quality part, and there is not much area to correct on it, leaving any correction to be done back within the crankshaft. It is possible he will need to add weight back to where he removed on the counterweight. If the imbalance difference between the 2 dampeners is significant it will affect the balance on the back of the crankshaft as well.
    The manual flywheel makes sense to spin up after the fact since there is 360 degrees of area he can correct on it.
    I love how his setup is entirely managed by a computer, especially how you enter all the rod weights at once. We're still in the stone ages, weighing all the big ends then matching to the lightest, then all the small ends etc and using good old fashioned balance cards, a pen, and a calculator. 🤣 Good video!

    • @GearHead704
      @GearHead704  3 роки тому

      I've decided if it does balance out right with my balancer to buy a different one and use the ATI on a different project. I like the crank being balanced correctly personally because then I can just switch flywheels or balancers as needed. Thanks, I"m glad you enjoyed the video.

    • @albertgaspar627
      @albertgaspar627 Рік тому

      @@GearHead704 it would be interesting (ok, to me at least :) ) because at one time people wanted the lightest possible reciprocating assembly (knife-edged or pendulum cut counterweights on the crank, etc) so the engine could rev to its powerband quickly (a light flywheel can do the same, but flywheels store energy so too light causes issues in some street applications). not a big deal in a circle track engine spending time in the power band, and the question is how light can you be as oil gets sprayed in the crankcase (esp. with oil squirters cooling the pistons in modern engine designs) and gets slung off the crank without windage trays and crank scrapers. but for a street engine that's spending time across much of the rpm range, it could be something that makes one engine feel more responsive than another running the same cam-heads-intake.
