  • Thanks to one of ground crew members, here's some better camera angles of the F-100F flight that took place on June 20th. No narration or subtitles for this one, it's all flight and the sound of the J57!
These cameras captured the flight at 1080p

Not sure how heavy the F-100's canopy is.
We received an TO to fabricate a support device for F-16 twin seater one piece conopy, for when the jet is towed around with the the canopy open. Seems there were failures to the cylinder/opening mechanism from all the bouncing about.
The sealant on the canopy glass looks like it's due for a redo. If I lived closer I'd be happy to redo it with PRC 1422 B2.
Done this work a few times on Phantom windscreens.
A shop vac., polycarbonate scrapers of verious shapes, lots of MEK and gauze. looks like a weeks to 10 days job. Need about 3 pints of PRC.
I've never even seen an F-100, but it's wonderfull to see one in flight condition and looking good. Thank you for sharing this footage.

Thanks for the ride guys, great work.
I guess that's quite a high approach speed, like most swept wing jets the F-100 doesn't like to get too slow at high alpha.

Incidentally, the silver F-100F owned by Dean Cutisall is retired as of 2023. That leaves this Collings Foundation artifact as the only flyable Super Sabre.

    Hello,
I am enjoying your videos up in Canada. I am not much of a mechanically inclined person, but it is quite something to see these birds and that they are LIVE.
Do you ever have ex-Misty personnel come to see the Hun? I only mention it because I've just watched a quite informative video about Misty on another channel.
Everyone knows the basics and Bud Day, etc., but this one had a LOT of Pilots & other personnel that I've always wondered about following reading the book "Bury Us Upside Down" years ago.
Anyways, I would sure like to be around these a/c on a regular basis!
    Cheers!🇨🇦🍺

    • @DieselThunderAviation

Temperature that day was around 96° and quite humid. Our main runway (17R/35L) is 9,000 feet per the airport diagram. Takeoff and landing that particular day was on 17R. For the DA, I know there’s a way to calculate it, but not sure what it was for that flight.

I really like the F-100. Always have. It was my favorite Thunderbird aircraft and then the T-38. The Viper comes last. I don't know why I like the T-38 better. I remember 1976 and the Bicentenial - I was six years old and then the "Six Million Dollar Man" had an episode where he "flies" with the Thunderbirds so maybe that's it. The colors were cool during the Bicentenial. It's too bad the gas crisis left the Navy with the Skyhawk. Not that I don't like the A-4, but it had no afterburner. You gotta have an afterburner.

    • @Rogue-7.62

Thunderbirds and Blue Angels only overlapped for a couple years flying Phantoms, the only time they ever flew the same airframe (F-4J for the Blue Angels and F-4E for the Thunderbirds). Blues switched to the A-4 in 1974, same year the Birds moved to the T-38.
