Enoeda-Sensei graded me to black belt in the mid-1980s. He had incredible charisma when he entered a room (he was the first Japanese person I had ever met, which left an indelible impression on me at eleven years old). Mentioning that I had trained with him definitely impressed my dojo mates when I moved to Japan years later.
i studied shotokan in my teens in scotland , only reached green belt but was lucky enough to have sensei enoeda grade all of my few belts . R.I.P sensei
Great video, brilliant to see this and have Sensei Enoeda's history explored in a video like this. He awarded me my Shodan many years ago, i feel very fortunate to have met him. After a long break from training to focus on family and career I have recently returned to Karate, so to see a video like this is really great.
Thank you for your kind comments . Yes Sensei Enoeda had a huge affect on anyone that trained with him or saw him in practice. I saw him at a seminar as a kind and his presence took with me for life and I have kept training on and off into my 50's now. Great to hear you are back training, keep going :)
Yes very true. Its hard to find much old footage from his early days and also It’s surprising considering how prominent he was in European karate that there isn’t more from that era.
I trained with sensei's Enoeda, Kase, Shirai, Tomita, Kawasoe on the summer course at Crystal Palace in 78, trained all week and took my Shodan on the Friday and passed, I was 13, then in early 80's my dad became Welsh team manager, so was very lucky to have spent a lot of time around the Red Triangle lads at that time and Enoeda Sensei, very nice man very approachable and always willing to pass on his knowledge
Wow, that was some calibre of karateka to be around in your teens. The golden era of KUGB and how lucky to have graded under Enoeda Sensei. Are you still training today?
@@thekaratechannel thanks for your reply, no I'm afraid not, I had an industrial accident when I was 20, my left hand was severed at the mid forearm, I was lucky enough to have it reattached, but underwent multiple operations over a long period of time, plus my surgeon said he wasn't happy I might undo all his hard work 😁, I did go back and train for a short while just for Basics and Kata, but with not having full mobility and not being able to do Kumite I lost heart
wow, what a nasty injury. It sounds like karate has always been in your heart, I guess from the calibre of karateka you trained with in your teens. Keep the karate mindset , stay strong my friend 💪. Osu @@garyfallows1123
my dad trained with him many times dads 76 now and still training . dad was in the Leeds team with bob Rhoads in 73 when they bet Liverpool in 1973 to become champions . i met enoeda quite a few times
The black and white video shown, was a Japan kumite match between Kanazawa and Enoda, Enoda got swept by Kanazawa and he lost that match in that video. However Enoda did win a return match with Kanazawa later on.
😮 Enoda had a match against an American named Frank Smith. In the match Enoda kicked Smith with a round house kick to his jaw and broke it in 3 places, after that Frank Smith faded out of Shotokan and less was heard of him

Good video. It's just a shame there isn't as much footage of Enoeda, than other karateka on UA-cam

Happy Birthday Sensei. Sadly missed
I lived in London and trained in his Dojo in Marshall St for years. Wonderful.
