    I was blessed to train with Master Nakayama twice, once in my teens and once later around 30 years old. He was a wonderful and gracious teacher and brought me up both times to demonstrate how he could beat me senseless at will. It was incredible and I thank God for those moments.

    You notice he never mentions yoshitaka Funakoshi once ! Gigo was the father of modern Japanese karate and not his father . He’s never mentioned as he’s a controversial figure .

    • @ikkenhisatsu7170
      @ikkenhisatsu7170 3 роки тому

      Maybe I'm mistaken - Gigo was his son, no? And he was a tremendous karateka, but died at an early age, correct? So Funakoshi Sensei is, in fact the father of modern karate.

    • @markwalker4142
      @markwalker4142 3 роки тому

      @@ikkenhisatsu7170 no yoshitaka developed modern karate as it is today . He reportedly died of tuberculosis just after world war 2 . The deep stances of Shotokan came from yoshitaka primarily . His fathers stances were more in line with Okinawa based system’s. Yoshitaka introduced aspects of kendo and sword play strategy into stance and fighting range .

    • @ikkenhisatsu7170
      @ikkenhisatsu7170 3 роки тому

      @@markwalker4142 not true. One of the foremost karate historians, Sensei Robin Rielly, would disagree. I’m more inclined to listen to him than someone I’ve never heard of. Enjoy your day and keep training.

    • @markwalker4142
      @markwalker4142 3 роки тому

      @@ikkenhisatsu7170 perhaps I’ll ignore the conversations I’ve had with those who actually trained with him . Sensei Kase made it clear Yoshitaka was a pivotal innovator in the core of modern Japanese karate and Ginchin was involved in its standardisation based on Japanese health , education and spirituality. Yoshitaka was the genius . It’s clearly explained on shotokai.com. I spoke to my mentor Sensei Steve Cattle of this many times . Gigo was the genius that changed it to what it was up until the WKF changed it further into a sport .
