    Dude, very very well done. Lot's of folks explain how their gear is wired, but don't explain why they do it, and how if fits with their musical intentions.

    Enjoyed the chat. Funny how you spoke about workflow and Roland boxes. I feel like the workflow on Roland gear is always awful, BUT some how lends its self to techno!? People credit the creation of acid to the awkward sequencer of the tb-303. If you ever get to use the original tr-909, its not an enjoyable experience either! The functionality of stepping a sh101 with a trigger from a drum machine lends its self to hypnotic techno polymeters very easy. I belive that unlike most other styles of music techno isn't so much about getting the ideas from your mind into music, but more a interaction or a dance with some what stiff and strange sounding robotic machines.

    • @SURCOlive
      @SURCOlive  Рік тому

      Yeah they have had some iconic sounding machines over the years. Not sure how much of the inspiration came from the broken workflows vs the actual sounds they made. I feel like people were always willing to suffer through the workflow because they sounded so good. It's awesome to live in a time when we can have the sounds with more functional workflows. I love sequencing my vintage SH-101 with my OXI One sequencer, or layering vintage 909 samples with drum synths in my Analog Rytm. Such a wealth of creative opportunities available to all of us today. Thanks so much for watching!

    I see you went from the DT to the AR. Can you tell me why and what are the main differences between them both?
    Thanks and greetings, I love your channel 🫡

    • @SURCOlive
      @SURCOlive  Рік тому +1

      All the one shots I was using in my DT for live sets were made in the AR. It is far deeper for sound design and control so it gives a lot more options for live. The ability to layer samples and synths on the same track is very powerful. The biggest thing for the way I play live (improvised not pre planned) is the fact that kits and patterns are independent. I can drop a different kit of sounds over any pattern. With 128 kits and 128 patterns per project, the possibilities are huge. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

    Hey Surco! Super informative stream. Im trying to use this syntakt and oxi one setup and I cant seem to get trigless trigs to fire any other way but holding them down. Is there anyway to have them function more traditionally where they execute as the sequence runs?

    • @SURCOlive
      @SURCOlive  Рік тому

      I don’t think it works that way. I was trying to do the same when I happens across the thing I showed in the stream. I think the sequencer would need to have a sequence internally for them to work without pressing them.

    • @michaelbabcock146
      @michaelbabcock146 Рік тому +1

      Whats weird tho is that the sequence is technically running. So im confused as to why it wouldnt work. The digitone is able to from what i see online. So confusing! Lol

    Is it any way to set the DT and the ather boxes using a pad controller to change the key?
    The idea is to have all the paters on (C) and then transposing to an other key by triggering the dedicated pad or key on a midi keyboard controller.

    • @SURCOlive
      @SURCOlive  Рік тому

      There is no easy way that I know of because they can’t be quantize to key that could be transposed. This is the reason I’m sequencing the Syntakt with the OXI One.

    • @SURCOlive

      If sequencing in key and changing keys are important to your workflow, I’d recommend the OXI first. For sounds and voices the Syntakt. Thanks so much for watching.

      @@SURCOlive what does the elektron do which the oxi cant and whole lot more?

    • @SURCOlive
      @SURCOlive  Рік тому +1

      @@williamwallace6508 as a straight sequencer of other gear the OXI is 100% my favorite. That said, nothing comes close to the Elektrons for easily parameter locking any or all aspects of their internal synths, samplers, fx, etc. by step. Sequencing externally using cc messages is an awkward and handicapped work around, but not anywhere near as powerful. This is why I’m using the OXI to sequence voices which it does better than the Elektrons, but sequencing the Elektrons internally to take advantage of their power there. Thanks for watching!
