- This week, the boys are tackling their most expensive rescue job yet - the Ferrari Mondial.
Mario hopes to reconnect with his Italian roots by convincing Bernie to take on one of thea true aristocrats of the car world, a Ferrari. Needless to say, anything associated with the famous prancing horse logo carries a hefty price tag, and rescues are no exception. Mario knows that he will face an uphill struggle persuading Bernie to agree. With the assistance of some clever marketing and a trip to a Ferrari Day at the Spa Grand Prix circuit, however, Mario succeeds in getting the car and the project that he wants.
It is soon clear that Bernie’s reservations had some basis in reality. Before the rescue is even properly off the ground, the boys are losing money hand over fist. It looks increasingly unlikely that the team will be able to turn the wreck they have bought into the sparkling sports car they had hoped to produce, let alone make any sort of profit on it. With the car suffering from shorts in the wiring, dodgy vinyl wraps and almost terminal rot, the project is proving to be nothing but a headache to all concerned.
As far as Bernie is concerned, the final nail in the coffin of the Ferrari rescue is hammered in when Mario brings in a specialist to take on the all-important servicing of the engine without consulting him. The boys face a mammoth struggle to overcome their differences and turn a profit on their latest tricky venture.
Two guys with a great idea, doing their stuff together and having a blast.

I'm restoring my Mondial after having driven it for 2 years in 5000kms. It's a strong and reliable car if you take care of it. Now i'm doing a full body work by myself... it was red when i bought it, and when i started sanding it, i Noticed that the original color was silver (argento).. It has been resprayed 4 times in its life.. and never been sanded to the metal.. so 13 coats of base, paint, varnish...!!!! I think that many Ferraris are resprayed in "red sale" every 8-10 years.. and have 50 kg of paint on them... I will paint it in a ferrari black (nero fer 1240) and put 5 spokes 16" wheels on it (308 QV's replicas). What I like in my Mondial : the driving feelings, the sound, the typical vintage Ferrari smell of the interior, the handling, the look.. what i dislike : the driving position, some electrical troubles (i changed the strter engine for a high torque mini starter, i changed some parts of the wirings and grounds, put relays on the power windows wirings etc..). The engine is smooth and solid. But you need to understand how the cis injection works... i do all the maintenance by myself : timing belts, clutch, brakes, tune ups, spark plugs (ngk iridium), oils.... It's a Ferrari you can maintain at home with documentation (the Ferrari workshop is available on line for free)

Quite beautiful this Mondial. The later version Mondial with fuel injection Quatrovalvole form would've been better, but this one is still beautiful. Nice color choice, too.

I have to agree with you. The show focuses more on creating drama rather than getting right down to the work and the information of the car. Personally I like hearing things about a car or an engine like how Jean Bugatti used a hand lapping technique to get the block and heads so flat the use of a head gasket was NOT required. To me stuff like that is worth knowing.
I came to watch a car show not a soap opera with a car in it. Also restoring one of the lowest form of a Ferrari was a big mistake. It just didn't give the whole super car vibe Ferrari is known for. It left them looking like they didn't know anything about the value of a car and just went with something based on the badge on it.
They might as well of restored a 86 Fiero and just slapped a Ferrari badge on it. It would have probably had the same end result. lol

Why do tv producers think every show needs drama. Car guys want to see cars getting fixed not a bunch of bickering like a bunch of kids or women. Look at Mark Worman from Graveyard Carz, so many people complained he changed his show excluding the drama, fired Daren and Josh his son in law to satisfy his viewers.

Painting it Red or Yellow and refurbishing the original metric wheels would have made this episode iconic or legendary. This episode is not memorable.

Yeah, the critics said it was under powered and over priced. Now that it's been 30 years that have passed - the price is no longer an issue and almost every car compared to today's modern vehicles are relatively underpowered. What specifically do you not like about it?

I had one: The driver seat position is so bad, after 50kms, you need medical assistance! To be honest, it is quite fun to drive, but, a bit short on power and one of the last reliable car, just a nest of problems, and all feels cheap, because it is!

If the format of this program is to be utter garbage then you have done a great job. WHAT DEADLINE? You made it up for crying out loud. WHAT BUDGET? You sprayed the car twice and bought in a Ferrari mechanic! The chassis is dangerous, the paint is fugly, the wheels are fugly.... seriously, with the combined knowledge in years of all the guys in this garage then you should all be ashamed. Why complain so much when YOU go to inspect the car yourself!

Hey OMGWTFLOL, Your dead right. The GT4 was meant to be a Lambo by the way. 15yr's ago the Dino's could be had for around $60,000 au. Now there into the $100's of thousands. Same with the GT4. The whole Bernie arguing with Mario thing gets very old, very quickly. I wish the producers would just let them fix/build/rebuild cars without this manufactured arguing thing. Watching two grown men faux bickering like little children is not enjoyable.
The Mondial is a terrible investment car. Like the collector says, it's a Ferrari for supermarket trips. I remember 20 years ago, ones in great condition could be had for $30,000 USD.

Hell yeah, lets fabricate something out of steel tubing. Original wheels difficult to get in the UK? Oh, lets put on other ones. Paint job looked dreadful. In brief, such a car as a gift would be too expensive.....
