Ask me anything about my new Martin OM-42 and I'll make a video about it!
Good job, Mary. Not enough John Martyn around in general and that's from a great album.
Agree. Not enough John Martyn around. This is one of my favorite songs. I think I've watched every YT-video with John Martyn playing it, and a lot of covers as well. Thanks to Mary, very well done. 👍
First concert I went to was John Martyn - Sadlers Wells theatre 1987 - such a wonderful songwriter and exceptional guitarist. Thank you for this beautiful rendition, more John Martyn love needed in this world ⭐️❤️
Lovely. So glad he's still remembered. Thank you
Indeed. This was also amply demonstrated by The John Martyn Project - not a tribute band (!) but a amazing reimagining and revitalisation of many of JM's work by enormously talented and creative musicians.

Brilliant cover of a classic song from my earlier life. Love it ♥️👍🇬🇧
Fabulous! I *love* John Martyn ❤
Such an underrated song. I discovered this through Clapton's excellent cover. Amazing job Mary.
Same
You did such a good job of this song you made this old man cry.song I used to sing with a friend who just cashed his check…thanks ..Greg
Simply Beautiful Mary you were right in the groove , wonderful. .. we love it .
Impeccable cover, congrats.
I saw JM in 1971 at Polytechnic of Central London (now Westminster College), when he was young and slim, entrance 60p. At that time he was touring a lot, played around 50 gigs in '72, often appearing with his contemporaries - Sandy Denny (his friend), Roy Harper, Steve Tilston (still performing), Claire Hamill, Sutherland Brothers, Principal Edwards Magic Theatre, Traffic, Free, and many others. There was a lot of live music at that time, pubs, clubs, concert halls ( Queen Elizabeth), unis, etc. A great performance, which I remember well. If I 'm right he was later newly appreciated by a younger generation.
I must have seen him not long after that, playing with Danny Thompson. I had never heard a voice or guitar playing like that - I followed him ever after.
I first heard this covered by Michael Johnson back in the 70s (he later became better known for Bluer Than Blue). This is such a great song!
Yes Mary, two thumbs up. J.M. was such an influence on me in the seventies especially London Conversation pre "Solid Air" though I was kind of addicted to that album for a year or so. Having said that I think I own around ten of his albums on Vinyl. A great pity he died so young
[" Awesome. Great song, a classic. Very refreshing to see no miming and to hear no pitch correction."]
I can't get over your voice! Especially your lows - they sound so good!
Very hard to cover John Martyn, my favorite singer/songwriter. But you nailed it with your warm tight voice ! I am a fan !
FANTASTIC....John woulda loved this performance.😊
Whenever I hear the term..."Those who do behind my back"...I always think of this tune and how prophetic is has been in my life! Appreciate the memory reminder Mary! MOO From COW-lumbus, Ohio Across The Pond! 👋
Great cover. Love that you went for the low notes. Like the guitar. Whole package --- A++++++++++
I first came across this song when John Martyn played it with Kathy Mattea on the Transatlantic Sessions. Your version is as good in every way. Fantastic vocals.
There’s lots of versions of JM playing this but you’re right, that version with Kathy Matea and Danny Thompson is pretty special. You can tell by their reactions at the end that they thought so too.
Peace Love Cool
A great rendition of a favourite you even managed to capture his facial expressions whilst singing. It's one of those songs that gets under your skin. ❤👍
I love Mary Spender! I hope to someday celebrate on an album with her.. she's so awesome love to go on tour , & produce a duet .. what a blast .

One of my favourite tunes, Saw him perform it many times, sadly often quite pissed. Thanks for that!
Alas, yes. I saw him a few times, once with Danny Thompson on bass. Sadly he was drunk every time, but as soon as he played it was so ingrained he was perfect.
@@leegriffin1584 I saw him with Danny Thompson in Edinburgh in the late '90's or early '90's. - that was simply incredible. Only marred by yer man coming on stage fighting a roadie and ranting about a stolen bottle of JD. Quite surreal.
Pissed? I don’t think so. Stoned? Always as I recall. I saw him multiple times between 1968 and 1999 and always stoned and often passing joints to the audience. I’m over 70 now and so profoundly grateful to have lived through a golden age of music. Happy memories! Fantastic version Mary. ( maybe he was pissed and stoned ; my memory may be playing tricks on me as I was too😎)
@@stanby2712His raging alcoholism is well documented. It was his thing, which got him end, unfortunately..
O Mary, thanks for the mellow blast from the past. That song was a soft-rock regular back in the Seventies and I played it lots on the radio at a station whose moniker was 'the mellow sound.'
We Americans sadly never got a handful of JM...reminds me of an early James Taylor. Need to dig more deeply into his music...great lyricist. Thanks MS. 🖐 WISCONSIN
Interesting you should say that, since the two appeared together, UK, early seventies.
Love that song!
Oh my! This is the best cover I have ever heard of my favourite song ❤❤❤ You are awfully close to taking John Martyn's place on my Desert Island Disks😎 Thank you so much.
Love it!
Love those super-low bassy airy notes!

Beautiful rendition.... your voice is so smooth and has such depth. Bravo
Wonderful rendition of a classic, Mary. Your vocals are always fresh and beguiling.
beautiful nice song
Great choice of song, and I'm guessing that's as low as the voice goes? Dark chocolate velvet... delicious '-)
I met John Martyn a couple of times when I worked in a shop in Rugby. I used to have a demo cassette of Grace and Danger, shame I lost it along the way. Excellent guitar playing btw. 👌
Good stuff!
Wow. Beautifully done.👏
Not the easiest person to cover and not the easiest person to work with.
I recorded one of his last songs, back in 2003/4 “Under My Wing” with Paul Weller. Ever since I’ve learned that, even the most eccentric or stubborn of artists feel most comfortable when you just let them do what they want regardless of what everyone else thinks 😂
Much Love To you Mary
YOU ARE THE CHAMPION 💕
Great version
Really great, Mary!
Great song and a great cover Mary.
beautiful cover!
Terrific Mary. What a fantastic song, performed beautifully. Love it 👏👏🎸🎸❤❤

Hey i went to Sadlers Wells to see JM...supported by Tanita Tikkarum! He was a genius! A 100% star.....no one gets anywhere near him
I have to wonder is there any style of music Mary can't do? It's a great cover and you look like you are so enjoying yourself singing and playing this!!
Nice. It kind of made my day 👍
Talent to spare.

Really nice rendition, with some of the original percussive feel.
