This tutorial is god-tier. FINALLY someone explains that a gravelly feeling is normal in the start. Most people who make low scream tutorials just say it’s bad for that to happen rather than saying its a normal place to start before you find the best way to do it that won’t feel abnormal. I actually have hope now that I’ll be able to start screaming soon.
Kardavox Academy i havent had a ton of chances to practice, but im actually getting to the point where i may achieve lows soon. i achieved highs somewhere around two months ago because of this tutorial.

finally a coach that explains everything, almost every coach i checked started explaining the "bark" section then jumping to the fucking vocals like wtf how did you get there, thanks for the video

I always see these video about the “sigh” sounds and everyone commenting “omg this worked so well for me” but never though it worked for me. This does, the way he goes into detail about where to feel the movement higher up and not in the Adam’s apple really helped
just found this out, im gonna spend my whole summer learning from your videos. im 17, ive been playing guitar since i was 5. but i had trouble singing. your videos are my guide right now since i cant afford your lessons lol. best teacher ever, peace.
Watching this video makes me happy on my 4 years of vocal training myself basically. I’ve watched a few things like zen of screaming but I couldn’t understand much because I don’t understand my body or specifically my vocal chords (or anything) or how to use or not use anything.
I've been doing metal vocals on and off for roughly 10 years, I'm now 31 years old. I've been in a few a bands and always thought my vocals were decent. I haven't practiced or played in about 3 years and I'm not happy with how I sound now. My lows always sounded like what you did at 7:43 . I never researched how metal vocals work until now and this video is extremely intriguing and helpful. I'm getting back into doing vocals and your explanations help alot with the mental aspect of it. You got yourself a new subscriber. Thank you.
I was watching ProJared's video about the first Final Fantasy game right before stumbling upon this video, then 1:55 happened... I subscribed instantly.
Man, that tip about using "i" in "ia" has helped me a whole lot! This combined with the tip about where to resonate/feel it have allowed me to begin producing the correct sound with the correct technique. Thank you very much.
Just saw the MTG playmat halfway throug the video and I had to laugh out loudly while doing "yaah". Always great to see that many other people are playing it as well! Great video by the way, it helped to refresh and improve my technique. Thanks!
I learned how to do this as a side effect of learning how to do throat singing. 😂. I’m actually a soul vocalist, and if you can master throat singing, and have a bit of natural talent, you can pretty much do anything with your vocals. It improved my range, control and endurance like crazy... and I also learned how to do metal vocals. 🤘
This dude is fantastic explains everything so well please do that vocal compression lesson as soon as he said that I looked else where and not a signal video is good.
Your videos are extremely helpful! Even the reaction ones are super interessting and not just lame reactions! I’m really looking foreward for the vocal compression lesson!!!!
I'm currently on the waiting list for lessons, and this video has already helped heaps. I've now managed to move the feeling from my throat all the way up to the back of my nose and tongue area. I can't wait for those lessons just so I can get even better.
I'm a guitarist and have been trying to learn how to do metal vocals for a long time but not having enough resources to spend behind it i had to depend on UA-cam. I watched your video a couple of months back when I first started trying to learn this and couldn't figure out what i was supposed to do. I went around youtube trying to learn how to fry scream or do false cord vocals and ended up learning stuff like breath support and other stuff that were needed to safely create this sounds however I couldn't figure out how to make the sounds I was supposed to. I came back to this video after two months and it makes much more sense now tbh this is a lot more help full than most videos out there. Thanks a ton.
I was watching Austin Dickey's gutteral lessons and it brought me here! Pretty cool. I love Marks reaction to Demolisher when the air conditioner went out. That was a damn good review!
I love watching your tutorials, I've only been doing metal vocals for about 6 months and I've come a long way by watching your videos and trying to mimic the way most artists create space. I appreciate your channel a lot!
You're awesome dude! This video was very helpful. I can do fry screams but have been struggling to be able to do any lows. And I definitely feel that gravely feeling you're talking about. I also am not familiar with a lot of the names of body parts and what some of the words you say. I'm a guitar player and make my own music and would love to record my own vocals. Been following you for awhile and you helped me unlock my fry but I really want to unlock my lows and then gutterals
Great vid. I like to think of the air filling all the way up from the gut, rather than the chest. That's not how it works but I think it can help people understand where their diaphragm bottoms out. -Signed, Low Brass
I have no idea how to make the sound with my soft palette. I can only make the sound in my throat. Like Cookie Monster or the Christian bale Batman voice.
Please do the vocal compression video! I'd love to learn the Travis Ryan growls (those mid-low growls, it's hard to explain), i'm stuck with the basic false chord sound :/
Did you watch his infant annihilator reaction? The first vocals he explains are the same technique as Travis unique dinosaur screams if you mean those.
@@TheDarkness4560 no, i mean his regular growls. There's a difference between (for example) Travis Ryan and Dallas-Toller Wade. My growls sound more like Dallas, but i expect them to sound like Ryan's if i use compression. I'm trying to explain as best as i can lmao
@@julioazathoth Ahh now i think i know which ones you mean, those growls where you can literally understand every word he says/sings. Yeah they are tough because you have to Distort your vocals exactly the same amount as you let the air out to let it sound like a normal voice.
when Y? When Y makes an vowel sound like in Sean Yseult from White Zombie (and others) It's pronounced "Ee-sult" BOOM! VOWELTIME! Great info too. Instantly helped me a lot. Thanks man.

I can do highs easily with no problems. But as for lows I'm struggling. I do the right techniques but mine sound super hollow. What am I going wrong and how do I fix it. Love the video, and just subscribed ❤
Thanks for the support! Most of the time people have trouble with metal vocals its an issue of breath support, distortion placement, or both. I would advise starting with making sure you are breathing with your diaphragm properly and utilizing your abdominal muscles first, since that solves a lot of problems on its own
Gage Newman I have the opposite issue lol my lows are nasty but my highs are crackly as hell. I can do a gurgle scream and it sounds kinda like a banshee 😂
Ronnie Climer 😂😂 I’m even weirder I can do lows pretty easIly and highs a little bit but I can do inhales easy as pie but fry scream all techniques I find impossible even tho I can feel there exactly the same thing happening in my throat
Same here, I can do high screams pretty easy, singing along to The Sound Of Perseverance and higher vocals in The Black Dahlia Murder and Dying Fetus songs, but fuckin lows man, I struggle hard. I come from a choir background, and my breath and diaphragm control is decent but I struggle with how to utilize my distortion placement and such, shits tough, but I'll get there eventually
So I'm not necessarily doing it wrong, then? I always get a gritty scratchy feel, right near the vellum but not further down the throat. I know I probably push too much air, because I'm so loud. But I don't know how else to make the sound haha.
I've singing for few years and domine the false cord technique pretty well on highs but use to fail in lows, I'm sure I do a proper breathing technique but when I try to do lows I run out of air really quickly, what am I doing wrong? Thankyou so much!!
Thanks for this helpful video! I have been working on mine for a long time, but the big problem I still have is with mucus/phlegm. I'll be growling out like mad, then start gagging and choking - even vomited a few times, because mucus/phlegm will run down the back of my throat and get caught there. It's worth noting that, although I do take allergy meds, they aren't 100% effective in fighting my allergy-causing nasal drainage. If anyone can help in any way, I'd surely appreciate it!
