A lot of bass in metalcore tends to follow the rhythm guitar, so it doesn't stand out very much. Props to Skyler for adding some funk/jazz elements, while still keeping it heavy

I don't understand the people who disliked this... This kind of talent in our scene is rare cause most people just stick with root notes and octave and as much as it complements the rest of the music the bassist doesn't really have to work hard at all

    • @hmcyo
      @hmcyo 6 років тому +4

Melissa McNally this so much! I hate that people call this pop metal when it’s not at all like pop music. Their voicings and progression hell even their writing is rnb/jazz driven.

I'm not sure what I'm more impressed with: Skyler's raw talent or how tastefully done everything he's written is. Even on their self-titled, his work is in that perfect spot where it doesn't distract but makes your ears perk up and go "ooh".

+Griztophe LeBaire Not every band. In fact most bands I've heard in the last few years know where they want to go and have a consistent sound through the first few albums at least. If its a change, it usually comes as a greater impact because its stepping out of the norm for most of the fans. With Issues it feels like with every release they take strides in perfecting their sound rather than the normal baby steps most bands nowadays take when changing.
Thats what I feel like when listening to them anyway. I may be completely off about it. lol

I don't fuck with these mind games baby
But if one thing's right I saw with my own eyes
A blessing in disguise or just broke and pitiful
I don't fuck with these mind games baby
But if one thing's right I saw with my own eyes, oh year
You're a waste of space in my head
    hey hey
You're wasting space of my head, oh oh
I try to find the signs that might reveal the secret to what we’re missing , oh yeah
You’re nothing but a waste of headspace
You're a waste of space in my head

How tf do I get that gonk-gonk tone when he plays third string, fifth fret? That punches through a mix like nothing else.

Awesome playing. Does anyone know what program they use to get the bass to be played through the computer like this? Probably something obvious, but I've only ever used IMovie and I don't think you can do that on the program. Thanks!

I dont know what Issues uses, but you are most likely looking for a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) like Cubase, Reaper, Ableton, FL Studio, Presonus Studio One, programs like that.. And youll need an audio interface, like a Focusrite Scarlet, or some mics, If you're looking to record directly into your computer. I would use the interface instead of a mic, personally.. But its all about what you can afford i guess.. That should get you started on the right track at least.. Take care!

+Nick McMillen I'm using cubase cuz it's what i have not cuz it's the best haha. I recommend protools, mostly cuz it's good to be proficient in it as it's the industry standard.

+vomitoriumbassist Thanks so much for the help. I've downloaded Reaper and hope I can use it to possibly start making bass covers again :) Thanks again.

And yeah I had to respond to your comment cause holy shit if this is the best bass player in the world then I'm Napoleon back from the fucking dead

+TheAmityboopfliction i don't want to be cruel or anything but you may want to think about picking up a hobby or something. trolling about someone else's successes is just not a good use of time.
folks may start to think you're jelly, insecure or bored. just sayin'.
