Did this like a month ago. It was very cathartic when Sarevok succumbs to an Alora backstab. I love her so much.
The feels. Hasn't she got added luck? Not sure if this factors the chances her stabs landing
@@JunJunKit90 Luck effects anything with a % roll to my understanding, so chance to hit, adds to damage, etc
I attempted doing Ironman runs on legacy of bhaal difficulty, without reincarnation, with only main + npc's and its like a whole different game.
This was my first crack at having a go at insane difficulty, always played it on core rules. Was a whole new experience.
@@JunJunKit90 For a first try at insane getting it done ironman on the 9th try is impressive, especially with shorties only.
@@krzysztofcyran3593 Fairly impressive 😂 Reincarnation has made it much easier nestling at LVL 7.
Awesome video! I was halfway through my own no reload shorties-only run when I found your video. Tons of great moments, great editing, I liked it a lot! The moment when Kagain was chunked by Brage just half a second before Brage was Held was hilarious
I learned a lot from my own run (Dwarven Fighter/Thief):
- many parts of early BG1 are faster and easier with a small party just because they don't get caught on each other, and everyone levels up faster
- the Wand of Sleep at High Hedge can be used by anyone! I had no idea!
- a mage is not mandatory until Baldur's Gate city, if ever
- I've taken Monty and Kagain through the game many times, but I got to use Yeslick, Quayle and Alora for the first time in probably 18 years. I love Illusionists so getting Quayle was awesome. I was able to get a Spook on Semaj during the final fight before his Contingency could go off
- speaking of the final fight, this has nothing to do with shorties (or maybe it's the luck of the shorties?) but for the first time Sarevok was caught in the Web trap that fires off LOL I got Kagain to run in and get a couple of free hits

So I saw this, and gave it a shot. EETutu with SCS on Insane, but not double damage, but no re-importing either, just one run.
Now, I only ever do no-reloads nowadays, so in a sense this was business as usual, but being limited to shorties means no Cleric or wizard until Chapter 5. My install actually moves Quayle to the Carnival, but I figured that might be cheating in this context, so I didn't pick him up until I'd reach the City. Just like Alora - and to a worse extent Tiax, I just didn't know where the Mod had moved him. I never pick him up, but in this setting I could *really, really use him* but I ended up not finding him at all.
I rolled myself a Dwarven Defender, the only class I reached Ascension with using these rules, But.
I admit, BG1 was *hard* this way, no cleric and no wizard also meant no CC whatsoever. But, because I only do no-reload, it's also this segment of the saga that I know best, I play it over and over. I specced Monty into Backstabbing, and that left me without anyone to disarm traps, but I figured I needed that more. I got myself a potion of mirrored eyes from Thanlantyr and bee-lined for the Basilisk maps. Backstabbed whatshisface and murdered the basilisks for lots of Xp divided only between two characters. That put me at level 5 immediately, and I put some points into stealth and traps - setting them, not finding them. I decided I could tank those traps or cheese them by running into the next area in the Cloakwood mines. I was right. Picked up gauntlets of Dex and then Kagain, and set out for the mines.
SCS, luckily, gives most fighters potions; and I had a fair amount of health and invis pots before attempting this, but between me and Kagain who now was tanky as shit, the mines were a cakewalk. SCS Bandit Camp though, is no joke so I ran around doing errands until I reached the level cap, and just brute forced it. Snuck into the tent, Backstabbed the Wizard with Varscona and just let all the Bandits come to me. That gave me a ful plate and a good shield and I was tanking like a pro now. Enough money to get Monty the thief armor, so now he was maxed in Stealth and fairly decent with setting traps.
Cloakwood, I knew, had traps that I couldn't tank, even with my shorty saves and my now 20 CON on two tanks. And with no thieves able to disarm them, I figured I'd go to Durlaqs, stock up on Perception Pots, and that worked. Cloakwood was an absolute Breeze. Daveorn fell to a backstab and a carefully placed trap in a spot I know he likes to Teleport too, and that was that. I now had access to Quayle and Alora, from there on out it was just business as usual, really. Since I was a serious Level now, I breezed through everything in the city and had acces to a variety of spells and wands now through Quayle. Finished Durlaqs with Alora in tow, but didn't push my luck and didn't do the cultists, I've ended my run on that bit a little too often.
Sarevok was a little harder andI lost both Quayle and Kagain in that. Alora and arrows of Detonation made short work of that motley crew. But, It was time for SoD now and that bit is stupidly easy for a Dwarven Defender. Past the initial dungeon, that gave me access to whatshisface so I now had a cleric and a thief. I also assumed a Goblin is a shorty, and although many disagree, I think the Shaman is a seriously solid class. I had previously soloed IWD on a Shaman, so I know how to make the most out of it. Between the tree of us, we absolutely rocked SoD, Belhifet fell like the bitch that he is, and it was unto BG2
And therein lied the problem. I should have gone with Fighter/Cleric; because now there is two fighters and a thief/illusionist available. No priests. And, without a solid party, getting Mazzy on SCS is *HARD*, because I have 'hardest random encounters' enabled. Mazzy will leave if you don't finish the Shade Lord, and getting past the Liches at an early level without a cleric and Jan as the only Mage is not exactly easy. And I didn't make it, either. I lacked spellcasting to a ludicrous level. Did Korgan's Quest, which was easy enough, but I really wanted a Throwing Axe because I had grown accustomed to having one, the slow Dwarf in Defensive stance needs one, really. And I met my end in the sewers. I just didn't have enough in terms of buffs and CC's to kill the party below the Temple District.
Well getting to BG2! Fighter cleric probably would've been more optimal for me on this run, but we had Kagain to fill the spot 😁
@JunJunKit90 That's fair enough, but I really, really want some APR if I'm short people - pun intended again. That said. A Gnome Illusionist would've helped, too. But, Illusionists are terrible. No Skull trap, no Death, no Horrid Wilting... Fine in BG1, but crap in BG2. Maybe, maybe they can be Wild Mages. Wild Mages have the highest potential but are untrustworthy in BG1. Any no-reload with a wild mage in BG1 is more or less doomed. On tutu, you can’t really pick up Neera in Beregost either, you'll just get cowed or squirreled.
