    Hey guys! Unfortunately I may have to mute the music during the thrifting portion of this video. For some reason (even though I used not copyrighted music) they are putting a restriction on the music. So if you just hear silence during that portion of the video...my apologies. Thanks for your understanding :).

      I heard some really strange distortion, I’m not sure if it’s supposed to be completely muted or not? Wonderful video though!! Very cool finds!! My vote goes for begonia!! Those big leaves are beautiful!!

    Your little face planter is from Lowe’s. It’s part of the Mother’s Day collection from LiveTrends. They actually come with a succulent planted in them. Most have Haworthia in them. There are several different ones if you want to add to your collection.

    I loved the ceramic cat with red ribbon. Reminded me of Nora! I probably would have got the pink pig planter, the little owl, even with the broken foot, and a couple more. I'll have to go back and take a look again,! Guess I should write down my choices!! Haha😂

    Hi Gena. I like to watch thrifting videos and try to guess what they bought. As pretty as that violet is, I am a die hard begonia person, and they are beautiful even when not in bloom. I have a lighted jewelers loupe that I use to check for tiny pests. Also here is a trick I learned accidentally.... mealy bugs glow under a black light. So when I have treated for mealies, you know how sneaky they can be at hiding, near what I hope to be the end of treatment I will use the black light to spot any remaining hiders.

    • @ThePinkTrellis
      @ThePinkTrellis  6 місяців тому

      I need a loupe!!! And a black light now too lol. I luckily don’t have issues with mealybugs. Occasionally one comes in with a new plant but I’ve been able to stop it right there. The black light would be handy! Thanks Sue!!!!

    African violets are Gesneriads and although they have fibrous or tubular roots like begonias are not related. Begonias are in the Begoniaceae family and more closely related to cucurbits like pumpkins, squash and cucumbers. They tend to have cane like stems and are woody. I vote for the beautiful begonia with those superb leaves.

    I thought you might have picked up the lattice cover pot. So different. I love African violets, had them on the past. But i am picking your begonia. Stunning leaves and pot. I don't have any because i wouldn't have the conditions they need and i heard they can be more prone to pests.

    • @ThePinkTrellis
      @ThePinkTrellis  6 місяців тому

      It was unique for sure! Very pretty! Begonias definitely need specific conditions to look their best. I feel they are high maintenance (and kinda messy...the blooms!) but they are worth the extra work. I actually haven't had any issues with pests! My Begonia sinbad came in with mealybugs but after some persistance, I was able to eradicate them. That's the only pest I've experienced and only with that one plant. Don't let "pests" scare them away from you :).

      Yay Jen!!! I’m always rooting for the underdogs…always. Seeing votes for the AV makes me soooo happy. I know AVs have a huge following in that community, but in the general houseplant community they aren’t as popular. I love both Begonias and AVs so I’m happy with either winning, but secretly want the AV to win lol.
      Tell Jen I may have an unboxing video for her next Sunday! I ordered some plants so depending on when they ship, and arrive, that may be next weeks video 😊😊😊. Thanks Lynn!!!! Have a great week 🥰.

    Begonia for me! Rex begonias I bought 8 of them in different shades, colors and textures all at the same time as they were in my wishlist plants a few years back...they are not created equal...some live longer, some need more humidity, some more thirsty than others...they all slowly 😢 died away...but i bought an Iron Cross kind, and it's been growing like your Escargot behind you for a year now, I'm not sure why because I'm not giving it any special care .. it's a very tactile rex begonia, the iron cross one...I had African violets too but I arranged 5 of them around my snake plant, but 3 slowly died away...2 left, I'm thinking dig them out and look for baby florette looking baby snake plants to go around the tall mother snake plants...when I make arrangements I don't always pair them with similar needs plants, I just put them together what I already have to give it a twist, I find it's a lot of fun for me ...doing arrangements gives me a lot of creativity and lessen the number of pots to water 😂😂😂😂

    • @ThePinkTrellis
      @ThePinkTrellis  6 місяців тому

      A few years ago I tried a few Rex begonias but I couldn’t keep them looking nice so I gave them away. The problem for me was humidity. I’m not having any issues this time thank goodness. All are in high humidity now. Your arrangements sound amazing!!! Great idea!!! 🥰

    Definitely African violets. I've had them for years but they stopped blooming for me. Turns out my violet fertilizer was too old and now that I have new they are blooming great. I'm dying to find a head planter thrifting!! Great find on your part!!! I'm in the process of trying to kill a beautiful rex begonia, my only one and new this spring. Sunburned it outside. Any thoughts for reviving it are appreciated.

    • @ThePinkTrellis
      @ThePinkTrellis  5 місяців тому

      Hi, Debbie! I always was under the assumption that we needed to fertilize them often but now I'm reading that some people hardly ever fertilize...like sometimes once a month, and theirs bloom all the time. I've dropped my fertilizing down to once a month for the African Violets so we'll see how that affects the blooms. So far I have not noticed any reduction.
      Rex Begonias are kind of difficult I think. I'm assuming you have high humidity? If not, they like higher humidity. I would definitely remove it from direct sun and stick it in a humid place. They can grow back from nothing or from very "ugly" looks LOL. They are such prolific growers. You'll just have to get past that ugly stage of reviving them.

      My favorites are the charity shops because I know all the money they bring in goes to a good cause rather than corporate pockets. I also try to only donate my belongings to charity shops :). Thanks for sharing your favorite. The best way to learn about a plant is through trial (and hopefully not error LOL), jumping into it blindly is a good way to learn fast LOL. I do it too. I feel like I'm constantly learning :). Thanks Claire!!!

    Stupid thrips! 😡 I've thrown out a couple plants recently because of them.
    I have a question. When you use the no drainage vintage pots for succs, how do you water them correctly? How do you know you're giveng them enough water without over wartering?
    I vote begonia for this plant vs plant contest. And I also vote for a full begonia tour! I'm totally begonia obsessed!

    • @ThePinkTrellis
      @ThePinkTrellis  6 місяців тому +1

      So you can put a drainage layer at the bottom of a no drainage vessel. I use top dressing pebbles. Then your regular soil on top of that. Then just don’t heavy water it. If you accidentally do give too much water you can just tip the pot over and let it drain out. Of course try to hold in all the soil with one of your hands to prevent it all from falling out. I’ve had a lot of luck with succulents using this method. If it’s a small pot you might have to skip the drainage layer part, but do everything else like I explained.
      I’ll definitely do the begonia tour. I ordered a few more last week. They are so much fun lol. Thanks for sharing your fave!!!! 💚💚💚
