Aaron and Mark, you're doing a fabulous job for your company. Fun and knowledgable previews, first the S1000XR - now this. Well done! And your cameraman has earned som cred too, for sure.
Great advert for BMW, they seem to talk a lot about BMW quality being amazing and owners love them, was in a dealer earlier this year and 2 GS owners spoke to me about their GS experience and triggers broom spring to mind, one guy had had £24k worth of warranty work on his, strangely he was very loyal to BMW but hardly sounded a premium product. Saying that I can't wait to road test one and see what it's really like
Here in the Netherlands, the base price for this bike is around 13,500 Euros; easily pushing 15k with some options, which puts it right up in the Kawasaki Ninja Z1000SX, Yamaha Tracer 900 GT, and Ducati SuperSport price range. At least for me, this bike doesn't have much chance against those bikes in terms of character, performance, and looks. When you also consider its Chinese-made engine and non-adjustable forks, it starts to look even worse. In the past, other similar BMW models such as F800GT, F800R, etc. were also all priced out of the competition in the same way. Like, you really wanna like these bikes and maybe even buy one, but then you do your research, look at what you get for your money, consider the alternatives, and then you go like "LOL, hell no!" I would say that, at least here in the NL, BMW's endless pricing issues continue to make BMWs an option only for those who think that they really REALLY "need" a BMW for some strange reason; otherwise there are very nice alternatives from Ducati, Kawasaki, Yamaha, etc. that are much better value. Once the reviews start coming in, we'll know for sure, but to sum it up, I'll just say "nah, it's just another overpriced BMW".
OK I was gonna take your comment seriously until you started comparing this to a Ducati Supersport and a Ninja LOL First of all, completely different class of bikes. Second of all, the Ducati costs around 3000€ more and the Ninja Z1000SX costs around 4000€ more than this f 900 xr. And don't give me this ''options'' bullshit. Do we compare the fucking base price or do we compare the price of options? Plus it doesn't matter (unless you're racist) where your parts are being manufactured, what matters is the quality control. I couldn't care less whether my engine was put together by a German, Italian, Chinese or and Indian guy as long as the QUALITY CONTROL is there! As to ''non-adjustable forks'' - yeah I'm sure a Moto GP pro racer like you adjusts his forks before every ride huh? lol Again, this is not a supersport class and comparing it to a supersport bikes like Ninja 1000 is ridiculous. And yes BMW is gonna be a bit more expensive than a Japanese brand just like Ducati which are considered premium brands. But I find it silly that you use Ducati as an example where their prices are up there with BMW haha. You're funny guy...
Great video, guys. I love your stuff. Old guy's perspective: I am super excited about the XR. Everybody is talking about moving "up" to this bike from smaller mounts, which many will do, I'm sure. But I'm 59 years old with decades of riding under my expanding belt. Currently, I'm on an Aprilia Caponord Rally (big, tall, and heavy), and it's a great bike, but I am tired of the weight. I'm tired of pushing around big bikes in the garage, tired of wrestling them off their stands on slightly tilting surfaces, and tired of flogging them through the twisties. I'm actively shopping to trade down in weight and displacement, but not quality and features. Of course, there's the Tracer 900 GT. But a better equipped BMW for perhaps around the same price Really?! I'll have to carefully compare. But I think this bike will be a big hit - and for a much wider market than BMW even thinks.
I've been looking at this bike and the Tracer 900GT as well. Here in the states, all up, apples to apples as best you can..the XR is about $2500 more. But you get the TFT display and app etc, better brakes and build quality. I'm still not sure which way to go and would like to test ride them but here in the states that isn't really done.
This is a massive winner I'm sure they look amazing and the price is extremely competitive the plastic Tracer has no chance. Really comes down to that engine and if it's a match for the triples.
The starting price of this bike here in Austria is 12750 €. I think that is an amazing price for a BWM and for what you get here. If I wasn't already a Tracer 700 owner since last year, I'd be buying this one in 2020
Nice review guys - but there is a clear competitor of this one which is the Tracer 900. Forget the Multistrada as it has 19". And forget the Triumph Tiger Sport which is a super old tech and design (Triumph once again missed the trick..) - The grey 900XR version you're talking over is LOW seat LOW frame, hence why it looks a tad small :)
All BMWs engines are sub-contracted except the R and K engines. So the 310, the 350 of the BMW 400, the 850 of the GS 750/850 and the 900, are all sub-contracted.
Compared with Yamaha Tracer 900 GT, which one is better for average users with few years riding experience? Appreciate if you can do a group test (F900XR, Tracer 900 GT and Tiger 900 Pro GT) or give your opinion on that. You could give me a big help for I am seriously to get one of these middleweight sport touring bikes. Please note I don’t do off road riding.

This or the new tiger 900 GT would be a good comparison. The 1000XR - fine, especially for distance 2-up, but can't really use more than 50-60% of its ability on road.

There seem to be a lot of viewers unhappy that the bike has a "chinese engine". As far as I can tell, the engine is a BMW design, manufactured in China to BMW specs. Would people say I'd never buy a Chinese iPhone? Do a lot of people mix up China of 2019 with China 1999, I wonder, still fixated on the image of cheap made in China toys? As if the 900 cc engine is made of plastic! China now manufacture their own microprocessors and super computers, is one of the few countries to design and build advanced stealthy fighters, and have moved ahead of the West in 5G technology, and are also actually building the new nuclear power station at Hinckley point. So there you are. Still, the fact that so many people think this way, probably means the resale value would be low. A shame. But hey, if it's as good as they say, would be a bike then, to own for many years.
