Add Textures in Photoshop with the Hidden “KNOCKOUT” Method

There are several ways to add texturing to your logo artwork in Photoshop, you could apply textures using brushes, add a texture image to a layer mask, apply a texture with a clipping mask, or even using a pattern overlay.
All methods have their benefits, but my favourite technique is what I call the ‘knockout’ method.
Using this technique to apply textures to your logos means you can easily layer up multiple textures non-destructively without it being permanently applied, so you can still edit and change the artwork if necessary.

Great video. You could also just create a blank layer set to knockout mode + shallow (within a group) and then paint on it with whatever texture brushes you wish, rather than have to create an entire textured layer with transparency. That also helps keep the file size down, should that be a factor.

I wish you could just slow down a bit, it's so hard to follow..... but good stuff.
Jeeze this is overkill just use a layer mask
But used as a template this method seems really flexible as he shows
