I completely agree with your rating. It shouldn’t cost that much if you have to do all that walking.

I was out gUbering one night and one of those Waymo Cars came driving by, so I followed it to see how it could navigate around life's little obstacles? Pot Holes, a Dog running near the street, cars stealing right of ways, all of it, super impressive.I even deliberately cut it off to see how it would react.

Thanks for trying this out and sharing it with us. I think you under-rated the trip. I think Waymo had your safety in mind the whole trip. Having you walk to a SAFE pickup and drop off point near where you were is a good thing. If a person had been the driver it may have been difficult for us to pick you up and drop you off at exactly the location you requested (especially in congested downtown areas like LA). We as drivers need to be aware if a pickup and drop off location is safe for us (the driver and our vehicle) and the pax getting out - if there is more than one pax, they may need to get out on both sides of the car. AGAIN, PICKING UP AND DROPPING OFF IN A SAFE LOCATION is part of the whole ride experience.

Thanks for your coverage, Sergio. Did it know it's not supposed to make a left turn where it did into the parking lot? I believe there's a double yellow there. I'll look next time I am at that intersection.

The driving is not so much the issue. It's the human element of having a driver who can make decisions. I have to wonder when some drunk person gets in and wants to start messing with things like the steering wheel. Interesting. Thanks for sharing this.

These look pretty easy to carjack. What happens if someone spray paints the camera sensors or somehow disables those twirly things while you're stopped?

10:42 the Waymo violated California Vehicle Code 21460 which states it cannot cross a double solid yellow line.

People will pay extra for human drivers for several years after driverless cars go big. You’ll lose the super cheap rides but in the long run probably make more money.
PS, everyone has the same OMG reaction to the car driving itself. After a time or 2 you get use to it

This car drives just like my Tesla on FSD. Tesla robotaxis are so close and will take huge demand from Uber drivers even more.

  • @MJSmithGroup

How can you not tip? Waymo pays their cars far worse than uber & lyft pay their drivers. Waymo doesn't pay them at all. Sure, maybe an occasional tire rotation or car wash, those cars are 100% dependent on tips. Even if waymo doesn't have a tip option in the app, you could've left a fiver on seat.

They won't work the same after 100 hrs of service and when all the cars get to be 3 years old they'll need new ones with all that million dollar tech. How is that going to be profitable? They won't clean themselves either so you still have to pay the humans. What's the point. The technology is awesome but it's just too excessive in these times.

3 minute ride on Uber/Lyft? Not worth the $2 Driver payment. I wouldn’t even consider taking the ride. $10 minimum payment for Pickup. I work for $Money, not Spare Change….

Waymo… will be out of business within 6 months of Tesla getting approval to do driverless robotaxi service.
Waymo’s cars cost 8X ($250,000 each) more than what a Tesla CyberCab will cost. Waymo cannot operate except in predetermined areas in a few cities. Tesla will be able to operate anywhere. Tesla’s cost per mile will be less than 1/2 of what it cost Waymo to operate their cars.

guys please don't tell me you believe these cars are running on their own and are not under continuous supervision and/or remote control by someone sitting in a 3rd world country office for 2 bucks an hour. This must be one of the the biggest scams out there. Fully autonomous cars do not exist.

@@sergioSMTMC1 thanks for the input. they even admit (in an interview) that there is a supervision of all the cars but the say they do not interfere directly. yeah, sure. if they did admit it, the whole fully autonomous fairytale would collapse and as a former Wall street guy you might aware that it would affect their ability to attract the investors to the company. this thing is as legit as the 30% take rate. there is a german company called Vay with purely remote controlled cars, with drivers sitting in a 3rd world country office. at least they admit it. look it up, do a little research, peace
