For 50 plus years and two generations, my family has always made Turkey Ala King served over rice following Thanksgiving or Christmas. Its a nice way to use some leftover turkey.
I made this on Thursday night. It was stunning. My Marc went back and polished it all off. Served over jasmine rice and it was fantastic. Thanks Nicky and your mam for a fab mid week dinner. 🎉
This is almost exactly how my mom makes hers.. a lot of the recipes I see have more vegetables and stuff added to it but I adore how simple her recipe is. She also adds a can of pimento which is my favorite part. I woke up with a hankering for this and wanted to see how others make it. Your mom's looks great!
Made this for our family dinner tonight with roasted chopped turkey steaks and served with tagliatelle pasta. It was incredible and will definitely make it again, thanks for sharing ❤
This is an excellent recipe. Simple, complete and easy to follow. Will definitely join my repertoire of meals. Great for us single individuals. This recipe will serve for 2 days, maybe even a third for breakfast on toast.
When I was a kid, Turkey à la King was a staple in our house the week after Thanksgiving. My mom didn’t use sherry but rather added pimentos. It added color and a nice kick to an otherwise fairly bland dish. I have watched a goodly number of your videos in the past few weeks and really appreciate the clarity of your instructions, the professional-quality photography (you know, food porn) and your genuinely charming personality. Well done, you!
I was taught that one should fry mushroom on a dry frying pan to get rid of the water inside, and then add butter (or oil) to get them nice and brown. Thanks for the recipe, will try it for sure...
I never had it before. Heard its name and just assumed would have a ton of expensive time consuming issues. I dont really enjoy cooking so love simplicity. Bet this hits my table this week. Thanks so much
Oh no Nina. This is a really old dish. I guess it was given that name to make a dish made with leftovers sound fancy. I would see it more after Thanksgiving and Christmas as Turkey a la King. Another was to use leftover turkey. Enjoy!!
I disagree. If you add curry powder, you will drown the thyme. As an Indian, I love Continental flavours, as much as I love Indian, and I know better than to mix the two. This was meant to be Continental. Keep it that way.
Just made for our dinner tonight. Used scallions instead of "large onion", Used cooking Sherry instead of "dry Sherry". When I make it again, (because this was delicious!) I will be using the recommended ingredients above. Thank you for sharing your family "go-to" meal.
I made this for dinner tonight and it was incredible! I made a few changes so that I could use some home canned ingredients and we loved it! Thank you for the great recipe, it will be in our dinner rotation now too.
I made this today, or a version of it. Not a big fan of mushrooms, so didn't put that in and I don't drink alcohol (its great in food though), so don't have that at home. I used cream instead of milk and added cayenne spice. So good! Will definitely make this again!
