When I was a trainee chef in London back in 1964 we had a sandwich if we were on early shift. It was a MR fore rib of beef joint, the eye of the joint was cut into thin steaks and placed on a tray then covered with 50% butter & 50% Worcestershire sauce and put in the oven to warm. Doorsteps of bread were lightly toasted and the beef went in the middle of two slices, best sandwich I have ever had :-))
That sounds bloody handsome! Have you attempted to recreate it since? Love a fore rib, but we only ever have it for Christmas and Easter, it’s so dear! I wonder if you might get anywhere close with a bit of cooked and sliced ribeye steak?
I think you are doing everything just right. The recipes give specific instructions, the videos are clear and are presented in a genuine and warm manner. Receiving the recipes in a random way encourages me to try new things. If I had to suggest just one thing it would be meals for the freezer.
As an expat in Hong Kong and despite all the amazing local food here - I crave these local takeaway dishes that I miss from the UK. I made this dish following the recipe and I cannot believe how easy it was to make and just how delicious it was. Can't thank you enough for this recipe - I definitely see this becoming a staple dish when we have guests around!
The recipe above is what my mom used to make since i was little..if you add some curry leaves and curry powder, it turns even wonderful! chinese cuisine calls it kamheong..
Wow, that was superb. I wanted to give my Wife a break, so I decided to cook your recipe for tonight's evening meal. My Wife helped prep the sauce, chop the onion, chilli, garlic cloves etc, it looked and tasted just like you get in a Chinese restaurant. Thank you for a cracking recipe and video. Managed to find most of the ingredients in the larder, bought the rest. Struggled to find rice vinegar, though. I'll try again. Definately going to make this again. Cheated by buying microwave egg fried rice!! BW from South Somerest
Followed this guide twice now and its absolutely gorgeous, to help in between second or third frying of beef strips i place the strips round the top of the bowl as it is all stuck together in a clump its so much quicker taking the strips off the edge rather than faffing around in bottom of bowl.
Cooked this tonight for me and my wife, was really nice. Used a cheaper cut of steak but still good, so imagine it's better with sirloin. Thank you very much
I made your Tuscan chicken a while back. More than your food I want affirm the generosity of your spirit in sharing your talents. May you be rewarded many times over🙏🏽
Thanks Nicky, tried this last night and it was an absolute winner! Took some of the others advice and I only used 2 tablespoons of the sugar and it was epic. Even re-heated in the microwave next day it was as good as anything we have had delivered! Looking forward to trying more of your recipes! All the best, your new fan in Portsmouth!

Nicky, I made this for the first time tonight along with your fried rice recipe. OMG, outstanding. Absolutely delicious, the sauce worked a treat, the sirloin was tender and crispy, the rice light, fluffy and super tasty. Perfect. Thanks for the easy to follow video, really appreciate you taking the time and effort to post. Yum.
I made this following every step of your recipe. I can honestly say it’s the best crispy beef I’ve ever had. So simple and so nice not having to deep fry. I’ve shared this with all my friends and will definitely be looking at your other dishes. Thank you so much
Usually I find recipes need a bit of tweaking but this one worked perfectly the first time. Followed everything to the letter and I don't think I would be able to tell the difference between this and an actual takeaway. Great recipe!
This is my family's new fave. Top tip is have patience and fry less beef in each batch to avoid pieces sticking together.Oh and you dont need so much sugar.
I just made this .Thank you for sharing The sauce was delious The trick is to get the oil really hot I think I will buy a thermometer... has I would off liked it more crispy but I enjoyed it
Made this for my family last night...... It was FANTASTIC! Reduced the sugar to 3, added a teaspoon of baking soda to the beef, a half cup of beer, and some thinly sliced carrot sticks.....this was my late mum's favourite Chinese restaurant dish, and I have been wanting to make it for ages! Thank you so much for making it so easy to prepare.....😊
This was fantastic! Here in Florida we don’t have many Chinese food places that make this. Panda Express has something similar, and there are a few places here and there that do, but once you get it home, the crunchy coating has become mushy, the beef is rubbery, etc. That sauce is so good! Put everything over some house made fried rice and man oh man, that is a dish that’s going on my regular rounds. Thank you! 😊
I can't wait to try this dish. I just made the Tuscan chicken in a cream sauce and It was so tasteful, with the chicken so tender. This chili beef is surely going to be a favorite. I also made the chicken biryani and it was just as tasty. I love how easily the recipes can be followed.

I made this for dinner tonight. It tasted incredible. It was a bit tricky putting th meat in, trying to dodge the splatter, and trying to keep my wok on the flame. Tricky but very very tasty. Great videos.
Looks great. In Australia I’ve found it called different names in different restaurants. “Crispy shredded steak”, “Rainbow steak”, “Shanghai Beef” … and I don’t get around much, so there could be a lot more. Definitely worth asking for if you don’t see it on the menu.
It's called Kim Wah Beef here in Benalla, Vic 😁 I remember the best beef used to be in the all you can eat Chinese restaurant in the Pancake Palour Plaza in Bourke St mall. The beef was bright red, so crispy and layered on fried rice noodles. So good! Looking forward to making this, thanks for the fantastic content 😃
I tried the crispy chilli beef recipe and the egg fried rice and it absolutely blew me away. It was absolutely fantastic tasty dish. Your recipe are so easy to follow and I will be definitely trying your chicken fried rice also. Don't stop sharing your knowledge and recipes you are a legend and thank you for opening my eyes to how simple great tasting food is to make.
That's looks so good. We used to get this from a takeaway in Norwich and we loved it. We now live NZ and you don't see it on the menus here. Will cook this tonight and report back tomorrow.
Thank you so much for this recipe! I made this last night and we absolutely loved it! Easy directions and quick! Will definitely be a staple in our household.
Hello! I made the dish this evening and it was yummy, thank you! I was surprised how much sugar went in 😂 Dangerous Also, very grateful that you list the ingredients in the description, that was handy when shopping for ingredients.
Made this last night and it was lush, we absolutely loved it! My problem was that I tried making it at the same time as the egg fried rice, which didn't go well at all (burnt I'm afraid!). But this was fabulous, thanks for the recipe.
OMG.!!! Have been looking for this dish for years.!! I used to eat a version of this plate made with shredded beef . I used to order it with crispy rice covered with a sweet and sour spicy sauce with diced pineapple.
Nicely put together demonstration but sirloin is just not necessary, use cuts you can get a deal on such as rump or brisket and velvet it with bicarb, saves a fortune and is as tender and tastes just as good, if not better.
@@kevs4898 To velvet meat is a process the east Asians use to tenderise cheap cuts. Think about when you have an Asian dish with chicken, pork or beef and wonder how so tender it is yet the food is relatively inexpensive, well what they do is cut the raw meat up into the desired pieces, sprinkle it with a decent measure of bicarbonate soda, mix it in and leave for 20 minutes, then wash it off, important to wash it off, then you can just pat dry the meat with kitchen towel. The bicarb creates a chemical reaction that starts to break down the meat fibres and will become lovely and tender once cooked.
The Crispy Chilli Beef is the best dish….EVER!!! My take is to put all of the sauce ingredients together in a bowl in the fridge in advance. This makes the ‘production’ a doddle, especially if the meat and onions, ginger and garlic are also prepped and in the fridge as well. Splatter guard is essential if the wok is really hot to get the beef to crisp up. Brilliant recipe, and would work just as well with chicken strips. Tim Awmack
Hi kitchen sanctuary congratulations on your success love watching your youtube channel absolutely outstanding on UA-cam absolutely amazing congratulations to you love from paul Roberts God bless you
OMG Nicky ....... I had no idea about a ‘splatter guard’ and always spend ages cleaning up after a fry 🤦🏻♂️ - you learn something new every day 👍🏻 Great looking recipe as always, can’t wait to give it a try 😊
Just cooked it again. We love it. I dont use the egg and have no problems getting the beef so incredibly crispy. Wife no so keen about the mess i always seem to create when making it though!
Made this for the first time the other day, had to adjust quantitites of ingredients for one person i.e. 1x sirloin etc, but it came out pretty much spot on for my first attempt, the taste is amazing! I will definitely be trying more of your recipes! :)
Gotta b straight with you, I watch more cheffy chefs on UA-cam, but every time a link of yours comes up in my feed your food looks absolutely boss and then I watch the video and it doesn’t disappoint. Ps this is not a backhanded compliment I am actually giving you major props for spanking up these so called “trained professionals” lol 👌🏻

Super delicious! Went down a treat at my house and now it's at the top of my daughter's favourite recipe list. The sauce is also perfect for a quick stir fry. Thanks for sharing.
This worked really well for me - thank you. I washed the strips first. This time, I'm trying with a soak in bicarb and a wash. I'm not a chef, but I've saved up all the snaggly bits which are too small or misshapen for strips, they're going into a pie filling.
Just finished making your crispy chilli beef dish and I've got to say it was delicious, super sticky sauce covering the crispy beef , paired it with egg fried rice this has got to be my favourite yet of your recipes (I've tried a few lol) We had your tea loaf for afters which was equally delicious, thank you Nicky keep the recipes coming
This recipe is unreal. I've made this for two days on the run. I swapped out the sirloin for rump and used Apple Cidre Vinigar because the alternatives weren't available. It went down a treat for the whole family. I was asked to make it again tonight so I did and this time I used Gammon steaks and trust me... the gammon is on another fucking level. Boss recipe. Keep up the great work 👍
I made this for dinner and it was soooo good honestly better than any takeaway I’ve had!! Just wondering if I wanted to try it with chicken, would it be the same batter and everything?
Your creamy pork and apple casserole is in the oven at the moment, ive had a sneaky taste and it's so , so good the family will love it .This looks another winner and when you do the egg fried rice later in the week i'll be doing that as well . Thanks for the inspiration.
Hi there, I love this recipe, made it a few times. Can the beef be fried in advance like a few hours earlier, and then the sauce prepped and beef heated back up later in the evening before serving? Thanks!

I reckon heat will kill off the bacteria. People are funny, they will happily lick someone’s genitals (hell, even their partner’s arsehole) … yet seem horrified when they get to a brown part of a banana.
@@Seedyrom247 Heat will not destroy the toxins produced by certain bacteria. I haven't yet seen anyone horrified by a brown banana but I totally agree with you on the rimming thing. Licking someones arsehole is not the best idea ever.
It was yum! We ate it all. We are bad. Thanks for the video and the Egg Fried rice one (I made that too). Weird watching a fellow left hander cutting stuff. I now know how those right handers feel when they watch me.
I think it's important to note that in the UK "corn flour" is what people in the US (and elsewhere in the world) refer to as "corn starch". This can be particularly confusing, because in the US (and elsewhere in the world) we have a product called "corn flour" which is what people in the UK refer to as "corn meal". I assume the results will drastically change depending on what your viewers understand when they hear "corn flour". Regardless, thank you for this wonderful tutorial/recipe that I will be trying out here shortly!

Shanghai beef here in Launceston. From Me Wah restaurant. Superb.
Amazing nicky! Love from far north Australia. Pls don’t stop making these videos. Tonight I’m gonna finally try make your orange chicken 🍊🍗🥃🍴
Glad you like them!
@@Kitchensanctuary like??? NO....love! ❤️ can’t wait for the next one 🤤
Thanks Jimmy, Its my easy egg fried rice on Thursday ;)
@@Kitchensanctuary yummm!! Excited much 🤗☺️
That's looks so good. We used to get this from a takeaway in Norwich and we loved it. We now live NZ and you don't see it on the menus here. Will cook this tonight and report back tomorrow.
It was awesome. Got a little leftover for lunch. My kids loved it.
Thank you so much for this recipe! I made this last night and we absolutely loved it! Easy directions and quick! Will definitely be a staple in our household.
Hello! I made the dish this evening and it was yummy, thank you! I was surprised how much sugar went in 😂 Dangerous
Also, very grateful that you list the ingredients in the description, that was handy when shopping for ingredients.
Did it get too sweet after 6tblsps of sugar?
@@khadijazakir3717 it wasn’t too sweet, tasted great 👍
Ahhhh it’s like you read my mind every time you post on what I’m hungry for 🤤🤤 also my fave thing to get from Chinese too 🙌
😋
Made this last night and it was lush, we absolutely loved it! My problem was that I tried making it at the same time as the egg fried rice, which didn't go well at all (burnt I'm afraid!). But this was fabulous, thanks for the recipe.
This looks like the ginger beef from my fav restaurant... I can have it at home now 🤯, anytime I want. Thx
OMG.!!! Have been looking for this dish for years.!! I used to eat a version of this plate made with shredded beef . I used to order it with crispy rice covered with a sweet and sour spicy sauce with diced pineapple.
Hello, how are you doing Jose??
Nicely put together demonstration but sirloin is just not necessary, use cuts you can get a deal on such as rump or brisket and velvet it with bicarb, saves a fortune and is as tender and tastes just as good, if not better.
@@lonewolftrucker3955 Bicarbonate of soda
What do u mean by velvet it please
Thanks for sharing I’d never heard of this.👍
Bless you.

Hi kitchen sanctuary congratulations on your success love watching your youtube channel absolutely outstanding on UA-cam absolutely amazing congratulations to you love from paul Roberts God bless you
Thank you so much 😊
My husband's favourite too! You make it look quick, simple and delicious. It will be Fridays dinner..🤤. Thank you...
It's so good!
Just got round to making this tonight. 5 star. Absolutely loved the taste of this. Will certainly be making this again. Thank you for sharing.
Fantastic!
I like the look of this, like you I don't like deep frying when I have to throw out a load of oil. I love crispy beef and will try this out. Yum, yum!
OMG Nicky ....... I had no idea about a ‘splatter guard’ and always spend ages cleaning up after a fry 🤦🏻♂️ - you learn something new every day 👍🏻
Great looking recipe as always, can’t wait to give it a try 😊
It saves so much mess in our kitchen LOL
I had dinner half an hour ago but I am dribbling watching this.
had some steak cooked up but didnt feel like having it till next morning... then this video pops up on my feed realized how easy it is and had all the ingredients man so glad it did was awesome meal :D and very crunchy indeed.
Looks delicious but I'll definitely use less sugar.
I did that and it turned out great!
Yeah I almost fell off my chair at 'six tablespoons of sugar' !
Does it works with less, and how much less?
I think you could get away with about two tablespoons.. add more sweet chilli sauce
Why use less sugar? Is the goal to make it taste like shit?
I made your crispy chicken wings today. So easy to make and delicious. I am watching your crispy beef recipe now. Will have to make this as well. I love your recipes.
Wonderful!
That looks super gnarly! Not a rice fan myself, but i would eat that right out of the pan😎.
When I was testing this most of it left the pan befor i could serve it up LOL
This comment confused me. I've only ever heard gnarly be used in a very negative way. 😳
I’d lick the pan clean
Super delicious! Went down a treat at my house and now it's at the top of my daughter's favourite recipe list. The sauce is also perfect for a quick stir fry. Thanks for sharing.
• 6 tbsp caster (superfine) sugar
• 2 tbsp tomato ketchup
• 2 tbsp sweet chilli sauce
FML....
Yeah, I was on board until we got to the sauce.
Cooked this for my wife and it was gorgeous 10/10. Next time I will try it with slightly less sugar.
i actually have everything to make this, thats a first. maybe i'll use honey instead of sugar
must of did something wrong, wasnt as good as i thought
This worked really well for me - thank you. I washed the strips first. This time, I'm trying with a soak in bicarb and a wash.
I'm not a chef, but I've saved up all the snaggly bits which are too small or misshapen for strips, they're going into a pie filling.
Just finished making your crispy chilli beef dish and I've got to say it was delicious, super sticky sauce covering the crispy beef , paired it with egg fried rice this has got to be my favourite yet of your recipes (I've tried a few lol)
We had your tea loaf for afters which was equally delicious, thank you Nicky keep the recipes coming
Keep up the great work 👍
This is one of my fave takeaways, and I’ll be trying this for tea tomorrow. I can’t wait.
You're welcome. So glad you're enjoying the recipes!
Hi there, I love this recipe, made it a few times. Can the beef be fried in advance like a few hours earlier, and then the sauce prepped and beef heated back up later in the evening before serving? Thanks!
SIX TABLESPOONS OF SUGAR!? Is this a dessert?
That’s exactly what I thought. Not to mention the additional sugar in the tomato sauce/ketchup and sweet chilli sauce.
That’s tooooo damn much lmaoo
@Jay M Not in this amount. Sure, half a teaspoon here and there, but six tablespoons is unacceptable.
I gasped at the amount of sugar too.
Yeah I’d say add about 2-3 tbsps or teaspoons of sugar at most lol
I picked up the wrong 🥩 while shopping my husband was 😠 I had to get a recipe quick yours popped up and saved the day😋😋 this was so good the flavors blended perfectly. 🤩 thank you!
This looks delicious. I mouth watering on this side of the screen as well. I'll have to cook this, and soon 😋
Let us know how you get on if you do give it a try :)
I love ALL of your videos. I'm working my way through them all, week by week! The videos are well articulated and a joy to follow. Thanks for sharing such great content!
"Now I know some of you might be thinking, why am I wearing my ring when sticking my hand in the marinated beef"
Nice side of E.coli with that? TAKE YOUR BLOODY JEWELLERY OFF AND WEAR GLOVES MISSUS!!
I reckon heat will kill off the bacteria.
People are funny, they will happily lick someone’s genitals (hell, even their partner’s arsehole) … yet seem horrified when they get to a brown part of a banana.
@@Seedyrom247 ayo youre an absolute weirdo
seedyrom247-Too funny mate,legend.
@@Seedyrom247 Heat will not destroy the toxins produced by certain bacteria. I haven't yet seen anyone horrified by a brown banana but I totally agree with you on the rimming thing. Licking someones arsehole is not the best idea ever.
I made this today, it was ridiculously easy and delicious, nicer than any time I got it out, can’t recommend it highly enough!
Another fantastic recipe, love your knife Nicky😊thanks for all your recipes. The best cookery videos on utube. Stay safe 💐xxxx
Yay thanks Dawn :)
It was yum! We ate it all. We are bad. Thanks for the video and the Egg Fried rice one (I made that too). Weird watching a fellow left hander cutting stuff. I now know how those right handers feel when they watch me.
That beef looks gorgeous and so does your hair :-)
Saving this one for sure, thanks for sharing it!
Your hair
Her hair is rockin.
Have you ever tried adding any additional veggies with the beef like broccoli, carrots, snap peas, green beans or maybe some crushed peanuts on top before serving?
Hi 🙋♀️ Sweet and sour Chicken usually but since trying your salt and pepper chicken that’s taken over lol Thursday I’m doing your crispy sesame chicken then next week I want to try your crispy chilli beef 👅 I’m so hungry watching you eat the chilli beef and wish I had a bowl of it right now lol🥢🥡 Would be good to have a recipe for sweet and sour too! A curry would be chicken tikka masala every time. I’ve saved your recipe for onion hajis which look AMAZING! Thanks for your wonderful videos which are to the point and clear to follow 👏🏻❤️
Yet another idea stored away for when I'm in a cooking mood. Thanks, Nicky and Chris.
Our pleasure!
I adore this recipe. Thank you for sharing it! I still can’t quite get them as thinly sliced and as crispy as I imagine them in my head, but I’m tinkering with each attempt!
That looks delicious 😋 Have a wonderful day 🌻
Thank you! You too! 😋
Doesn't need the sugar, the sweet chill sauce gives plenty of sweetness
Thank you, this dish looks like an absolute winner! Will be on our table this Friday evening 😊
Hope you enjoy
glad to know you can shallow fry this. I really dislike deep frying food just because I'm not a fan of overly oily food. I'll definitely try this.
You're hitting all my favorite notes with this recipe, plus a fun cool vid!
I made this twice and it's amazing. I substituted the red chili for 1 tsp. red chili flakes.
