Honestly it really depends on the size of your baby. My baby is currently wearing 12-18 month leggings because she has chunky thighs. And the ones I made for her still fit really well and aren't super tight. They are also plenty long. If you measure your baby's waist and also the inseam you can then print the pattern and put it together as paper and see if the size will work. I hope this helps! Good luck!
I have a mid range ($300-500) Brother machine. When I was looking I just made sure that my price range got me a machine with metal gears instead of plastic gears because I've been told they last much longer. I've had mine for about 4 years without any issues. But really only time will tell.
