I personally find team rankings more valuable than individual characters, maybe showcase what makes a team work and then what can be swapped out.
I also really appreciate when you make graphics that showcase if it's an offensive or defensive team, it genuinely helps me plan out my roster as I def want more defensive teams for gac

Rankings are always a good video and charts are even better. It shows what's changed, what has stayed the same, and what isn't worth investing in. Individual character rankings show if a character is worth investing more than the bare minimum for team comp into the character. Sure team comp will always beat out, but if the character can be useful elsewhere, then that is worth investing in. Sometimes a lone character with a good kit can clear something.
Either way, worth making more of these, but maybe every year or at most every 6 months.

Also these Videos are probably an additional Place of Information for New players. I think idealy the ranking would be more biased towards how flexible the specific characters are, and whether other characters being nerfed/ Buffed would Change the usefulness the character but generally it is a useful Thing to have visualized
I'd generally agree with this. Still useful, but less useful than things like team, zeta, and omicron rankings.
Also, having the nuance in the All Character Ranking Table with the "Plus"es is very helpful for prioritizing. It gives much more nuance than, for example, your previous video's grading of 2023's characters (e.g., you said Malicos, Zorii, and Drogon were all Amazing, which people might think is the equivalent of Grand Master; but here they're Grand Master, Master +1, and Knight +2, respectively). This can be very useful if you're trying to build a team but you're short 1 charater, it can help identify the best substitutes.
A good way to handle these going forward might be to do Characters in Q1 & Q3, teams in Q2 & Q4? You could also then sync up the Zeta and Omicron rankings the same way (Zetas would go well with Characters, Omicrons with teams)

I think while these videos are helpful I don’t necessarily watch these videos for strategic input. I watch for fun! So if you’re worried about the massive need for roster assistance I don’t think that’s why most people watch. We just have a great time listening to you describe how the characters we’ve geared up (or are looking forward to gearing up) compare to others. Thanks always for the content!
Keep doing this every year, I come back to the new yearly video several times. when deciding which characters to farm and level up.
To leech off an idea from another comment I saw, I like the idea of turning this characters ranked video into a character ranking of who benefits from extra relics.
So renaming the categories based on relic level, and placing characters in them based on how high they can go.
For example savage. He does pretty well at a min of say r3. But if you take him to like r7, it’s still a great investment. So he would go in the r7 category with maybe a (+4) note signifying the soft minimum of r3.
(Probably works better for journey guide reqs but you get my drift).

Next do a ranking sheet of those characters that can solo in grand arena like Savage, Darth Vader, Malak etc.

I think you should combine the two. Rank teams from best to worst, as well as characters and optional substitutions within each team.

For example: in your team sheet, Talon is in three teams. What should i use 2nd best in the triumvirate team if i use talon with malgus. Same for jk anakin in padme and qui gon team...

I personally find the team stuff more interesting and useful. But these individual character tier list can still be helpful for newer players who dont really have a grasp on meta or viable units. Either way ill be watching lol

I like ranking videos, but I think the individual ones are not needed. Like you said, teams are where it is, as there's no solo character content. I'd just focus on 5v5, 3v3, and ship comp rankings.

I hope they rework GA again this year, I have 2.9 mil GP and the second lowest GP in my bracket is 5.6 mil💀. They really need to bring back some sort of GP gates so that newer players can actually start enjoying the game mode again instead of just hoping their opponent decides not to play

I’m confused how shaak ti is master but Vader is knight like if this is an individual ranking list then Vader individually is for sure way better than shaak ti especially rn in conquest for the dots feat vader is the only reason people can complete it sure he’s not as strong as he used to be but he is a better individual character than shaak

I also love how palpatine, such an old legend character has been around for so long and such a cornerstone character!I wish we had more events like his that didn't require high relics and we could theory craft to try to unlock that legend at the bare minimum.
man i totally miss this feeling of bare minimum unlocks, you just keep repeating the battles for 8 hours trying to make it work and when it does, oh man that feeling is unmatched

Here's another idea how you can revamp this review: Have it be The Best to Worst *PER-FACTION* characters. This way, people can figure out who's the best in a faction and it'd be easier (maybe) to rank them.
I'd happily watch a whole video on just some of the bigger factions! Going over Empire, Rebels, Jedi, Unaligned Force Users, that kind of thing.
How best to use them, what lineups, what keys zetas and omicrons, what they can beat...

Make this video every January if you want, but personally I don't mind this video being a yearly tradition to start the year. Also you can showcase mostly those that MOVE rankings rather than every single one. Do honorable mentions for those that haven't changed rank.
Coming off of the new character rankings for 2023, I do think that maintaining some form of character ranking is useful, especially for players earlier in the game. However, it might be useful to consider something a little "simpler". When I look at these charts, what I am really wanting to know is, "should I invest in and/or farm ______ character?" I think the categories could be changed to reflect relative importance on toons in the broader context of the game. For example, categories like: Critical, Essential, Useful, Conditional, and Useless
I really think you could boil it down even more to Farm ASAP, farm in lulls, supplementary, and skip. Supplementary just meaning they make a team better or are a part of the best line up for a decent team but aren’t necessary for much success or use outside of that team/game mode

As a new player - it’s nice to get guidance, especially ftp. I imagine I will spend some but even then it’s gotta be smart spend. I can see why team rankings are so important, but where do I focus early on when there is so much to build up? And what about a character being important because of their ship? Lots to learn - will take any guidance I can.

Great way to start the year off!!
The video I have always wanted you to make is a gamemode specific squad tab with unique on. In other words, for each gamemode, you would make a custom squad tab with unique on and put every character in their "optimal" spot. The team ranking is extremely helpful but since some characters are used more than once, I don't know a teams full viability since I am using a different lineup. For instance, the resistance hero bros are slotted in the Rey and Zorri teams on the graphic, so I am not sure where to use them or what to use them in their place.
I think you should still do the character ranking, it’s useful, but I agree teams have gotten more important. Maybe consider updating it when you do the end of year character review or new team ranking.
Basically, update this when teams update, and just focus on the changes, is a character more or less viable, do new omicrons and zetas make a difference. Like with your mention of Gar Saxon, in the last two years have there been any changes for a character’s viability? More of that, just highlight the changes.

I'd honestly almost throw a +4 on ISC and Gar. Taking down GAS with almost no investment(no zetas, no high relics needed) is pretty insane.
Yeah, but I’d put ISC in padawan tier, cause his kit is the one that makes the team. You definitely need relics to beat a reliced gas tho

I think team comp is more useful. You could do "Top 24 teams for 2024." And every year add a new team.

It still confuses me to see young han so low i use him in a dash line up with vandor chewy, l3, and qira and he just basically kills everyone on assists... its a good counter to most jkr teams and if you have a fast dash basically means he does extra damage in his opening move so its almost always a 1shot on who you are targeting. Withing reason tho obviously not against GLs and stuff
I'll be honest- I kinda agree with you that this particular ranking isn't nearly as useful as it used to be.
THAT BEING SAID, as someone who loves data points & prefers larger amounts of information over less, I'll continue to love these "All Characters Ranked" videos. Even if they aren't the most useful ranking, they are still interesting and do have some merit. Not everything needs to be the "most important" to be valid and have value

This video is still relevant. Especially if you are a new player. There it’s not that easy to focus on a complete team. Sometimes it’s easier to focus on a specific good character that you want to gear up first and building to whole team around later. That’s the problem I’m facing right now.
And the teams you are showing are for most players in the early stages not excess able (I assume less then 20%). Lot of them are endgame.

Maybe change the individual character ranks into something like "the absolute best character investments" tier or something and a "dont waste your time on except for bare minimum amount for GL etc" tier
So yes the game is more and more about team comps but when building them teams you can really only work on one maybe two hero's at a time so who do you pick?

Whatever swgoh content the grand admiral Ahnald enjoys making is good enough for me. If you enjoy this type of video, then yes. I do find it interesting to get your insight on each player, but please keep making content you enjoy and I will watch! Happy New Year.
I think something to spice up the character rank video is to make it more of a “recap” video. Basically make it twice a year (start of year and like midway through the year) and discuss what’s changed on the character side and on ship side of things, what’s new, what’s come since the last video, and basically what the state of the game looks like from a character perspective.
Basically make it an Ahnald State of the Galaxy video.
I remember looking at the kits for both mace windu and GK and seeing that windu was superior; but every outlet said it was GK. Was one of the few times I saw something before really anybody else. Unfortunately windu ship is still inferior but I’ve got ages until the negotiator is unlocked so looks like my GK journey is doa for now

Love this format, sure the team builds are more helpful, this is more fun with more comedy gold, I think you can simplify this a bit and just burn through them, 10 secs each no spreadsheet on this one needed. Refer them to your awesome team one.
I think for new players this definitely can be useful. So they know who to invest in for the long run. And they don’t fall for the Rogue One bait in Bohdi.
I think this is a fun video and would love to see it stay. My recommendation would be to not be so strict on stand-alone viability though. I get it's a character ranking video and not a team ranking video but it seems pointless to place a character in a tier based on a team it would never be used on and then have a +1 or a +2 by every single one. Whatever team you think is "typical" for a character to be used on combined with how important the character is to the mechanics of that team should determine where it resides.
I think the real value of this is seeing which characters might be the power houses of their teams. That’s something that could easily be shifted into the teams ranked though. Something like a priority of importance?
I always find value in stuff like this. Yes, it's a team game, but I need to know what characters are the ones that are making the teams better. I think they call them "lifters" these days. That's the list I need.
A ranking of new characters, characters that had a renaissance(with a rework or a new team) and characters that deserve a spotlight might be more practical than ranking every character. Enjoyed the vid as always though!

I think looking at this overall, cg is doing a decent job at making once useless characters work somehow in at least a few parts of the game.
