Respect a person's right to dress modestly.
If you want to strip a woman's clothing that she consider is something that is protecting her modesty than it is not the middle east, it is something way worse and you people shouldn’t be talking about women's rights, freedom or human rights around the world with this much gusto.

Overall point, UK is secular and there is big religious freedom - however, there must be balance and if most of the population feels unsafe because of the niqab then it is perfectly acceptable for it to be banned.

As I understand it, there is nothing in the Quran about it. It was decreed some years ago by some Mullah or something and has become part of their culture. Anyway, women are second class to the extremists who control them. Slightly higher in status than a dog. Just possessions. Supposedly, wearing the tent, etc, stops them from inflaming the passions of men.

Stay strong- allowing one will open flood gates you cannot contain, see the mass killings and libraries being burnt in Europe- they thought they can reform them and assimilate but no islamists don't assimilate. That religion has just one purpose to eliminate all others and not by peaceful persuasion by killing, murdering and more. Most of the proponents of islam here are pakistani stooges masquerading as Sikhs (a religion within India who fought Islam for hundreds of years) and had to go through inhuman slaughter of their Gurus (equivalent of Pope if not Christ) by the same Islamic rulers within the subcontinent. And it's not like todays muslim don't wanna identify with those barbaric rulers, they instead praise them- name their missiles and teach school kids about them to become like them some day so that their terrorist religion can be spread throughout the world and all jews, hindus, christians, and other non muslims are killed if they don't convert by the judgement day . Remember these people are not like germans who atleast acknowledge Hitler as evil and reformed- islam don't allow reform and books of hadith follow strict rules for society - if you don't believe go visit Afghanistan yourself and see how many women are free to do as they please or even allow education in today's taliban regime.

The deaf community requested that people serving customers be provided with transparent masks. In some (not enough) instances this was done. Had my mother been alive during that time and could not see through a mask to lipread she would have requested a person with a transparent mask to serve her if possible, and if it was not possible she would have been unable to communicate, just as she was when faced with an assistant wearing a veil. That would have happened regardless of the race of the person. Before you scream racism in all cases try thinking.

My family is 100% Anglo Saxon - we are also Muslims and have been for THREE generations - Dad was born and raised in Bootle Merseyside and Mum was from the town of Roslin near Edinburgh and we moved to Australia when I was eleven.
I have NEVER worn a hijab (except at the Masjid I wear an abaya and a scarf) or the niqab and definitely not,nor will I ever, wear a burqa!
My sisters on the other hand chose to wear the hijab but none of their daughters (my daughters either) have chosen to and everyone is totally ok with that.
My dad and grandad ALWAYS said that the women in our family would not EVER be forced to cover, even though it IS desirable, it is 100% a matter between a woman and Allah (SWT).
Surah Al Baquara states there is NO compulsion in religion and any fears that non Muslim women have that they could be forced to adopt to Islamic dress is ludicrous and any Muslim even suggesting that they should is deliberately misinterpreting the Qur'an and trying to impose THEIR more hard core beliefs onto non Muslims and that is Haram!
    Not permissable!
I am highly amused when new female reverts (not realising I was born a Muslim) try to lecture me about becoming a Muslim and tell me that to be a successful Muslim I HAVE to become an hijabi and that I SHOULD adopt a name like Ayesha, Khadijah, Fatima, none of that is true - all they see is blonde hair, blue eyes, fair skin and normal every day attire, they lecture me about making my Shahada (did that when I was thirteen) and often tell me I'm obviously "not ready" to embrace Islam 🤷🏼‍♀️ and I'm no spring chicken I can tell you so these young ladies think they are "saving" some poor old lost lady.
My husband is 100% Aussie born and bred,he reverted to Islam many, many years ago and when I first met him I had one heck of a job convincing him that him becoming a Muslim did NOT mean he had to embrace being an "Arab" (that's no disrespect to my many Arabic friends).
The amount of girls I've met (men too) who will ditch their birth name alarms me - don't know how many guys my brothers' became friends with who changed their name to Yusuf or Bilal or Issa - when there is NO requirement to reject your birth name so guys, if you revert (convert) keep your own names like Chris or Sam or Justin.
My brother's names are Jim and Gordon.
I'm going to stick my neck out *ouch* and say to people contemplating embracing Islam THINK.VERY.
    CAREFULLY about what you're doing!
If you're coming into Islam expecting you can mistreat your wife, withhold money, control her life and be the "boss" you're barking (excuse the expression) up the wrong tree.
Maybe some Muslims from other countries have a CULTURAL advantage over their women folk (take countries for example where FGM is practiced by BOTH major religions as it's cultural not religious) you will be sadly mistaken and deeply disappointed - my Dad used to say a Muslim man only opens his mouth for two reasons - to eat and to pray - PLEASE don't be taken by the idea you can (as a Muslim man) get away with being ab*sive to your wife and kids - because you don't want to run into a group of sisters protecting one of their own (it's brutal).
For most Muslim women they love wearing the scarf,it is their way of identifying as a servant of Allah (SWT) and it makes them feel safe and protected. It makes no difference to me but I would NEVER disrespect or judge sisters who do cover.
You be surprised at how many Muslim women and girls you pass on the street never knowing that they are.
Be wary of the ones who are delusional but please just remember just because I say Allah (SWT) and you say Yahweh or Jehovah the three words honour the one God - and NO!
We Muslims have NO authority to try to force our way of life or our beliefs on others.

Those who choose to wear a veil certainly won't find it easy to make friends in the UK! Whenever I've been asked for advice about friend-finding, one of the tips I always pass on was learned from a friend who always had a slight smile whenever I met him. That taught me that a smile is appealing; it encourages cheerfulness; and it leaves a good impression. Use of a veil prevents easy communication (at work and when using shops, buses, etc) and is bound to generate feelings of distrust & suspicion. In a serious situation where a police interview or a court appearance is needed, a person's expression can reveal the difference between truth & lies. Therefore the UK needs a new government which will put a stop to non-British activities like veil-wearing

I happened upon this video by chance. This was 10 years ago. I do not think multiculturalism has worked out well for Western society. Since there have been quite a few Jihadist incidents in Western cities, I would venture to say many people who are not Muslim would be frightened if they saw a person wearing a full burka a hajib and a niqab with only their eyes visible. This might work well for Muslim women in traditional Muslim countrues where this type of dress is the norm, but not in mainstream Western society. Whatever happened to When in Rome do as the Roman's do? I think respecting the norms of a society puts the majority of the people more at ease. Furthermore, as far as schools are concerned, educators found that certain types of garb are distractinfg to the students and incite behavioral problems. Hence, uniforms for students are now becoming more of the norm.

What is so interesting to me about this subject is that many countries around the world where Muslims are immigrating to are having difficulty with the Muslims integrating into the cultures they have chosen and asked to be a part of but fail to consider that culture and do nothing to ease their own way, or the way of the citizens of that country. In short, they have no consideration for the culture they are asking to belong to and expect instead to be accommodated. This is why so many countries are now slamming their doors shut to Muslims and even deporting them. They must consider that their way of being is very foreign to non-Muslim cultures and it is they who must adapt, not the citizens of the countries that are allowing them in.

I think the biggest issue is that in Western culture we read mannerisms, facial expressions and this forms either trust or no trust between people. I myself watch how people interact with others and their behaviour before interacting with them and barring this will decide whether or not I wish to engage. This is how I am in general with all humans and this is why others don’t feel comfortable interacting with a black sheet and a voice, we need interaction where we can see a person. This is not what it means to be human, we are born naked - we should be feeling the sun on our skin, we should be able to smell the fresh air and to be able to swim in the ocean and lie on grass with nature on our bodies. It’s super strange to me that one would hide from this privilege when they can be free.

At 00:14:20 the woman in the audience talks about fear stemming from ignorance, while having her face covered. Yes, we can't see your face, so we don't know who you are. I saw an interview with a female Canadian soldier who was in an artillery regiment in Afghanistan. Because she was one of the only female soldiers in her division, she was moved into a front-line infantry regiment against her wishes. Why? Because UN rules state that only females can search other females, and when entering houses of known or suspected terrorists, the enemy would often dress in female clothes and full face coverings, often because they were hiding weapons or explosives. So she was asked to search these women, who were potentially actually men who wanted to kill her. And yes there were male soldiers with her, but she should not have been put in that position just because she was a woman, and because Western forces actually try and abide by the rules of war. If someone is wearing a full burqua and niqab we cannot see their faces, cannot know if they might be a threat.

Wearing a niqab is against face to face communication, its repressive to women whether they choose or not to wear it in such circumstances and is basically anti British. It’s also something I regret and am offended at because it goes counter to these communication ideals of British people. You can’t know if someone is smiling for example or other body language. I also find it an expression of hiding and actually shutting down ones personality. I would not ban it, but certainly at work, in schools, courts, banks and public and private places it should not be allowed and be discouraged and it should be ok for restaurants or supermarkets to ask people to take it off eg for cctv camera and public safety purposes etc, free of fear of any discrimination. It should be for everyone else to discourage it and not run lines between our culture where we have enough problems already.

Generally we like to see "open" faces everywhere. We even prefer the men to shave their faces as well. We also don't like to see people in masks, caps and helmets. We allow soldiers, priests, judges, nurses and religious persons to wear their uniforms or habits. We also allow the Sikhs to wear a turban and keep their beards but generally their dressings are modern and they are not dress like the conservative Muslims in the niqab.

God made faces so that we can socialize easily, and we can easily recognize who he is when we meet him, whether he is a friend or relative or neighbor or maybe a stranger we don't know. The expression on the face lets someone know how we feel, whether we are sad, happy, or lying...and the niqab covers it all

With all respect, how can anyone take anything seriously from someone who chooses such a level of absurdity as to cover her entire body, except for her eyes? This is the ultimate exemplification of an oppressively horrendous disrespect of women and is beyond any modicum of modesty that they try to declare. This is not modesty; this is absolutely ridiculous.

I noticed on maybe 8 occasions, that the cameraman did not find it easy to find the person who was actually talking, and this is because he could not see! who was talking.
