Evening all. Hope everyone is good and well.
great car, plenty of miles left in it given the general condition of the car is really good. Would you of invested or scrap?
All the best everyone! Appreciate all your channel support it doesn’t go unnoticed.
I would switch off a good film to watch this channel it's great!
Absolutely!
I enjoy the lack of drama this channel offers vs. drama or meme stuff that others put out.
Definetely 👍🏻
@@Say-no2them very kind of you 🙏
Thoroughly enjoyed the content. £2700 for the work, is about £52 a week over the year. You couldn't hire a small car for that. Certainly worth the investment.
If you've had a car for most if not all of its life and looked after it it's worth the money. Each new or used vehicle is a venture into unknown territory even with service history. Sometimes it's worth staying with what you know. Don't bother about the video being highly polished... It's a working garage and the video reflects what goes on in the real world.. Keep em coming.. 💯🎯👌🏻
Sometimes refreshing the car with some new parts is almost like buying a new car.
Well said ya boyo!
My w211 as done 182000 and I do all the work myself and it's got years left It ,so I'd say yes it's worth it
Another great watch, the editing with added skits are also a nice touch. This is the only channel on YT that I currently look forward to watching for car content. Well done Sam and the team at SPR!
Glad you like them! Much appreciated
Thank you for the down to earth commentary, I have watched these videos since you started andyou are a natural commentator to me because of your expertise and knowledge of your subject. Also thanks to Nathan for his camera work, I look forward to each episode every week, from 23 degrees here in the canaries , it’s a pleasure to be a subscriber. Tim
Thanks Tim. Very jealous that your nice and warm 😂
I bought one with 178k 5 years ago. It's now done 213k. I've driven to Slovakia twice and Germany 6 or 7 times. I commute 400 miles a week and it's never missed a beat. I've spent about £500 on it since I bought it. Fantastic car.
New subscriber here. Having watched many hours of your content. Bloody love it. Your sense of humour is right up my street. Anyways the owner of this car is quite right to spend that money. He/she knows the car trusts the car and couldn't find better on that price point surely. Nice wheels I thought. Great content well filmed. Cheers
Thanks for subbing.
I’ve a 2004 e class with 292,000 miles, it does have the OM648 however, old technology yes, more reliable probably. Old banger for sure, but starts first flick of the key, runs fine and brakes without issue. No DPF, no ad-blue, so a level down on complexity, but can get 50 to the gallon on a run.
Great motor
Great film. Nicely done. I drive a 2008 E550 4matic with the M273 V8. Bought it with 124K miles and now has 198K. As you say, maintenance is the key to longevity. I bought the car because the previous owner had it maintained at the dealership. I worked in the trade and was able to procure a VMI (Vehicle Master Inquiry) from my dealership and it all checked out. I paid 9K back 8 years ago and have probably spent about 4K in suspension and routine service over the years. I've been test driving other makes thinking I should replace it but every other manufacturer I have driven comes up short in quality and performance. They do not make automobiles like these today. Money well spent. Cheers!
Been waiting all week for this video! Great content as always. Keep it coming.
Great content as usual Sam well worth waiting for allways brightens my day when I see SPR in my recommendations 👍
Love watching your videos. Reminds me of myself. Someone who takes pride. Massive respect Sir 👍🏽
Fantastic video
But if you want to cut corners
You need to watch someone else
As this man only does his work properly
Top man
Wise choice to keep the car and spend the money on what was needed. Stop comparing the mileage, the owner has maintained it well, engine is in find condition no issues with gearbox. Under body I see was free from rust anywhere. I am a obsessive cleaner of the underside of my car as much as on the outside and this car is fine and has the same treatment. The car is an 07 plate coming up to nineteen year old so what, keep the car. And another thing to consider, if you bought something a lot younger you would be losing each year in depreciation a lot more than the cost of this service. Its a no brainer as far as I am concerned its a case of you keep the devil you know changing to another care means nothing for its reliability and you could be buying yourself a whole heap of trouble. Great video by the way, love your channel.
352 000km on my 642 W211 FL wagon - runs sweet. Thanks for the video.
As you said it depends on the rest of the condition of the car but I'd always favour keeping a car whose history I knew rather than gambling on another vehicle.
If the drivetrain has been well maintained and there is no rust, this is a no-brainer for the said cost. Keep them going, there is a lot more life in this Merc
Brilliant video and explanation of why its worth keeping and repairing, the owner will absolutely feel the difference, new brakes, suspension and a view out the rear, don't forget the penny washers. it would be great to meet some owners and get their feedback, everyone like and subscribe.
Great video as always Sam, sorry Matt I paused high peak to watch SPR instead 😂
Another great watch video Sam, loads of detail for the aspiring DIYers. Parts are now very expensive for many cars now, and I would imagine spares for the raft of Chinese vehicles hitting our shores are difficult to get and pricey! Investing in these old Mercs makes sense to me. 👍😎💯
I do like the Sport E=Class.
Everytime I see a AMG drive,I think All Money Gone!
Still makes me laugh 😂😂😂
Love the channel thx for the upload 💪🏻.
Greetings from the Nederlands🧀
😂😂
Great vid. I do have a request if possible. Could you possibly do a few vids showing your diagnostic procedure fully? You don’t have to of course but it’d really help me out in my apprenticeship. My place doesn’t really give me a chance to do diag because they already know what’s wrong with it because I’m at a dealership. So seeing different approaches will help refresh/teach me new things.
Even if you don’t want to (which I get) I really enjoy the weekly vids thanks for sharing your work it’s awesome to watch
Excellent video thank you 🙏 great seeing the older cars loved and looked after!
Another good video Sam it gives the real life of a garage being on and off jobs m8 642 engine is bullet proof I’ve worked on vans with this engine and well over 200,000 miles have there issues like inlet port shut off and turbo module failures keep good content coming👍
That's a tough call, if you have a fundamentally sound car then spending a bit is probably no worse than the unknown car you replace it with which will likely have significant depreciation. Great content as always and well edited due to the breaks waiting for parts etc. Thanks again.
From what can be seen of the condition of the car both outside and inside it looks like a very nice well looked after machine and well worth saving....and then consider the cost of replaceing it and I reckon it's a no brainer to repair it.
Not 'good enough' - it was a great video.
Much appreciated!
Great video thankyou, i am 13 months into owning a 2002 W211 270cdi with 445000 kms doing the repair work myself loving the old girl, originally i am from Hull but have lived in France since 2004, love your channel
“Cause it’s freezin”
Brilliant catch phrase that👏👌
Another great informative video.
😂
Great vid Sam , I especially liked the info on cleaning v cutting injector seat and it’s the second time I’ve heard this I have some blow by on my om648 injector4 I was told just get the carbon build up off the seat many thanks Sam.
Love the video, it doesn't need to be polished it's interesting and entertaining.
Nice video guys, the Merc really deserve this service, one of the last genuine solide merc
I have a 08 W211 so I was especially interested in this video. When I was in Cyprus 2 years ago, I asked a group of taxi drivers how many kilometres they typically achieved in their 211s? Answer a million, at least a million! That's well over 600,000 miles in old money. Keep up the good work, Sam and the team.
Great episode boys! That smoke coming into the workshop was like scene from MJs thriller music video 😂
😂
Great video really enjoyed it, please keep 'em coming
I’ve got one of these. In a couple of weeks, it’ll have 170k on the clock. Always dealership maintained, and I’ve kept strictly to the servicing schedule. I’ve had one big bill, where brake line, discs / pads and a few oil leaks had to be done as well as a full service, but I think it was worth it, at least to me. Only failed an MOT once (suspension), but otherwise sailed through every time. If I ever get an advisory, I get it done.
For that sort of cost - Better the devil you know and hopefully a couple more years of wafting around in it
Love the channel !
Good one Sam. The old girl should give the owner many more miles of happy motoring.
I agree with you. If the condition is good, just repair the vehicle. Not al new cars are worth the money. Great video.
I've subscribed, I have an old CLK 2003 so I watch this channel to learn more about mercs.
Good video, enjoyed the banter! Need to see inside than Snap-On van now though…..
Haven't had a problem with genuine Mercedes brake discs warping before, quite unusual. Thanks for the video.
Hi Sam
It is a no brainer to save this car if the body is in good shape as these engines are very reliable apart from the oil cooler issues which are a pain. I know quite a few people who have covered over 400k miles on these OM642 engines. Thanks for another video. I always learn something new from you🤝🏻
Thanks pal
Definitely worth it. Always depends on how well it has been looked after in the past though. When you have a car for 10+ years you get to know what needs done next. Key is to keep on top of it.
I had one of these in silver 3.0 V6 diesel it was a lovely car. Great vid 😊 ❤
Good work, from portugal...
Waiting the next vodeo
Love the editing - the cuts are funny!
Can we have longer videos ? :) they are so good to watch!
Always enjoy the videos! Keep going!
I love my 2008 E320 CDI Sport. 177,000 miles. Up for MOT this month, it will be interesting to see how it gets on. Fantastic car when it runs well, which is most of the time thankfully.
Another great video and a great w211👏, well worth repairing as there getting rare now and one of the best as no start/stop, dpf or ad blue problems 💪
I have spent 6k on my sl55 in the last year. The cars only worth 10k but when it comes to cars not every thing needs to be logical.
Great video guys.
Couple on AT with similar mileage for £3000. Obviously the customer likes the car and appreciates the work you do.
185k barely run in!
My 211 E320 CDI sport is at 180K and runs like a dream with a new turbo & cooler seal.
I’ll take her to 300k!
Plenty of life left I agree
A week wait for an injector isnt so bad. My CLS 350 has been at Mercedes for 4 months waiting for a DPF that they needed to replace as they couldn't get the NOX sensors out for the service measure. Thankfully they have given me a new loan car for the duration of the time its on back order. Back orders seem to be taking an eternity for some parts! Great video as always.
Great video, I got a CLS320 with this engine, only 74K miles. I am looking forward to years of driving.
great job lad as always sounds sweet enuff to me keep it goin next video please
Well worth it, that’s just a baby at 180k miles. I used to regularly travel in a W211 E270 taxi in Italy which had around 400,000 km on the clock or 250k miles and was always driven flat out on the autostrada so about 230kmh or 140 mph. We always got to the hotel before the bar closed!
Great video content, gives you the courage to buy an old smoker, parden the pun.
2k seems to be the average spend on these cars. Your 6.3 and that 55CL were costing that. Good looking car and not depreciating. Your advice about regular maintenance is always right. Customer did the right thing getting all the arms done.
Good video Sam nothing wrong with…. 👍🏻😃
Great video the w211 looks like half its age and mileage
Sam, another fab vid. I've been watching since the start, and hearing Matt (Mr. High Peak) name dropping you.
I was enjoying the video, and didn't notice anything 😂😂😂😂
Anyway, another fab vid. My daily is an E class coupe with a diesel lump. Have to say I love it, and Iwould spend to keep it right.
Keep up the great work, and ignore the Muppets.
A slip of the tongue, is no fault of the mind.
Great video as always. I bet Henry Ford was a wrong’un when he designed the first cars… tight nuts, nipples, lube, bushes, shaft, mount, rear end, plug, rings, blowoffs, expansion chambers and quick releases.
Excellent video as always!! 🎉
These videos are the highlight of my week! Work on merc vans all day but still get excited by the job. So much so I’ve recently bought myself a c207 e350, the MPG isn’t as good as others have stated though averaging 20/25mpg 😅 any common problems that would cause high fuel consumption? Love the channel and videos!
Great video. I would fix it. It looks like it’s a nice car. A lot cheaper than a car payment every month for a new one. I like maintaining them and running them as long as I can.
Great video Sam, let’s keep these cars on the road. I do have a question, where did you buy the mobile parts shelf I keep seeing in your videos.
Thanks, keep up the good work from a fellow mechanic and garage owner
The racking on wheels? Think it was cosco
I liked this video a lot. I have a 2013 ML 350 with the OM 642. It's done 338,000 km, or about 210,000 miles. I just had the pre-safe module fail, and there were faults in the Canbus networks for both front and rear driver assist modules. Corrosion in the connectors is the culprit. I was faced with replacing the front and rear wiring harnesses for these modules, plus a pre-safe module at a minimum. So, a bit reluctantly I traded it for a 2023 GLE 53 All Money Gone with 16000 km. I take delivery next week, and I do like the new one. But, I almost gave the go ahead to repair the older one. I am hoping, given its perfect service history, that someone fixes it, as it's in lovely shape inside and out, particularly for a car from the Canadian rust belt. Actually, I'm surprised at the amount of corrosion I see on the cars you service. Love your channel. I watch every video, and I'm looking forward to joining you as an AMG owner.
Nice car. Yes worth the repair.
Worth it in my book
There are good non genuine parts available to from Germany, I’ve just changed front discs , brembro , German pads , front struts German . Yes I’ve used the makes you mentioned , If it was mine I’d save it 🤣😂 . Love your vids being a merc fan boy 👍
Great video
Job done. Cheers mate!
That look’s a lovely merc 👍 well worth spending the money on .
Great content keep it up!!!
While i don't expect car companies to make parts forever after a model ends, it seems like with each passing model the length of time becomes less and less. I had a car recently that despite being three years out of production, some parts were already NLA. The Germans seem to be getting really bad about this.
It is getting worse I must admit
Down the same road with my old 5 series as well.
Every job seems to be about £500 minimum 😂
The 211 was an epic step up from the 210 in my eyes.
Nice video! I would say it's definitely worth saving. I was surprised that ratcheting wrench is that strong at 8:50.
I'm DIY fixing my OM648 E320 CDI front suspension. :)
The SBC brake system fault/repair for the number of presses would be a great videos on the older 211
If the bodywork and underside are clean and the car has been well serviced during its life - then you can justify spending money on it.
I do not think 2700 quid is excessive for the amount of work you carried out, especially when a lot of genuine Mercedes parts were used. Great work SPR!
I’ll be perfectly honest here, 2700 is cheap considering the amount of work and parts, try doing that for an old Bentley and you’ll get a proper reality check
I'll take that om642 over any more modern engine, so yes well worth it!
Giving the condition of that vehicle not having any serious rust that I could see frame looked good and it has a diesel engine I think that is well worth it. Good looking car drove really quietly Don't know how you can go wrong
Interesting video and the logic in favour of spending on it, is sound.
I've had a 320 CDI 211 300k was still going strong best looking e class in my opinion
Definitely worth fixing! It’s got at least another 100k miles in it!
Good episode - I have a S211 E280 with the same engine. I cringed when you said you might be putting a Febi arm on - I had two faulty brand-new ones where the balljoint the drop link attaches too was too tight and binding up which caused a clunk. Took ages to diagnose and replaced them both with Lemforder!
O really. Febi are usully good, lemforder are better thoigh.
Never had a problem with Febi previously and have used on CLK and other cars but wouldn't use again. Lemforder or Merc only now. @@sprautos
A couple of guys in the Merc owners club have had issues with Febi recently. Apparently they started rebranding bad quality chinese ones plus some fake Febi parts have creeped into circulation (which you can’t blame Febi for). Lemförder seems to be preferred atm.
Great looking car that, in my view, is definitely worth keeping on the road. The bill might seem high (given the value of the car), but such repairs won't be needed every year, so the cost amortises over time and will compare very favourably to a new purchase.
Thanks!
Legend Keith thank you.
Ohhh great timing...
Great video again. Fantastic content and knowlege of the car. One thing though,Sam, it seems to me that you have a swelling in your right cheek. Have you had it checked out just in case . Best regards.
If it was mine I would pay the bill and carry on . I get attached to cars , the thought of scrapping one fills me with horror.
Absolutely a bargain for what was replaced.
If the engine and gearbox is sound and no rust it's a keeper.
Look after it it'll look after you.
Hi Sam, nice video 🤗 Where we can also get the hub polisher? Can you please share with us 🙏
Can’t remember the brand had it years but loads on eBay
great video as usual I thought the coding was for only emission if you fitted it without coding would it run ok
Will still run, might not be the best
Really enjoyed that. I’ve got very similar with new discs and pads on 14 plate W212 front discs are warped after 4k. Real tight spot when turning by hand and when you remove the calliper you can see how much the discs is out when you turn it and it goes through the calliper holder bracket 😮. What’s your advice for bedding in new discs and pads please? Thanks
