A male lion can crush the skull of a cheetah. For an adult male lion in his prime, bite force becomes less important because of their physical strength their bite is strong enough to hold and break bone. The combination is deadly for prey and other predators. Male lions especially have a distain for hyenas and if they catch a hyena, snap there goes their neck. Although I was once watching an upload and a lion went after a male leopard and the leopard waited and swiped the lion in the face before taking off up a tree. It was actually pretty funny. Leopards are tough in their own right as there is an upload of a leopard defending itself against four lionesses. I digress. My understanding is that jaguars have the strongest bite force of the big cats and even slightly more powerful than that of a hyena. Followed by the tiger, lion and leopard. Just recently on one of these uploads, it mentions that a snow leopard is of the same genus as true big cats. Not sure I believe that, snow leopards like cougars and cheetahs don't have the big heads as compared to their body size as the panthera cats.
@@charleslowe522 . I already know that the jaguar has the strongest bite force from the big cats at 1500psi and even 2000psi, however I appreciate the commenter for correcting dated information about the biteforce of an adult lion, and I don't like seeing cheetahs getting their small heads crushed by a lion, if that's the case I wish hyenas were extinct.
@@metallion0738 I know the jaguar has a power bite, I wasn't aware it was that strong. I was just mentioning about a male lion being able to crush a cheetah's skull, but certainly not something I was bragging on a lion about. I was watching a documentary and it showed three male cheetah's following a female cheetah. The female had actually climbed up a tree and the male cheetah's were actually fighting amongst each other over the female cheetah and the male cheetah's were brothers who were tightly bonded. There was a male lion that was approaching and one of the cheetahs stomped the ground when the lion started approaching. With the lion approaching the male cheetah's fighting the female cheetah was really nervous and she jetted down the tree and took off running and the male cheetahs started chasing her. They chased her for a mile or so and she had hid in a patch of bushes and they followed her in and started harassing's her while fighting among each other. During this time they were all four distracted and the male lion had actually followed them and he was able to catch the female and he crushed her skull. The three males got away and not realizing the female cheetah was dead they were still fighting and one of the male cheetahs was injured pretty bad. By this time another male lion had made his way where is brother was and the male cheetahs were. Then the male lion that killed the female cheetah started chasing the injured male cheetah and was able to catch the cheetah. I guess the cheetah had been injured to the point he couldn't get away from the male lion and that was the end for that cheetah. The documentary focused on two things, why the male cheetahs were acting so aggressive amongst each other to the point they weren't paying attention to their own safety. Cheetahs are typically very nervous and always on watch. The conclusion was, the female cheetah was in season and the males were fighting over who was going to mate with her and were so engrossed that they failed to pay attention they were being followed and were with each other which had never been observed in male cheetahs who were brothers and/or in a coalition. The other question was why a male lion would brother chasing down a couple cheetahs. They deduced that it wasn't for competition, because cheetahs and lions hunt different prey but rather one of guys in the documentary had observed a female cheetah chasing two lion cubs with the intent to kill. It wasn't exactly a smoking gun, but would explain why the male lion was willing to expend the energy to hunt down and kill an cheetah he could catch. Anyway, cheetahs are my favorite among all big cats and I certainly didn't enjoy watching them being killed by a lion, I actually found it quite disturbing. Nothing like watching a cheetah hit full speed during a hunt. I think it is just amazing. I don't necessarily like watching cheetahs kill their prey, but it is cool watching them catch and take their prey down. Cheetah is on top of my list, then jaguars, cougars, snow leopards, leopards, tigers and finally lions. Of all these big cats, the cheetah is the only one that I would ever get closed to. I'm talking about cheetahs that have been raised by humans, but even if the other cats were raised by humans and used to interacting I still wouldn't go near them. They can react so fast and injury or kill you if their instinct is invoked. Cheetahs, even ones taken out of the wild, can be tamed and I have never heard of tamed cheetahs attacking their caregivers or others.
Full mature mail lions on average bite in the high 900s to 1000psi, every individual lion is deferent, just like people, it just depends, now take that with their brute strength and attitude, you have a killing machine on your hands. They're not the strongest in terms of physicality among the big cats, but they're no doubt the most successful of them.
I'm pretty sure lions and tigers differ in strength depending on how you look at it. In terms of paw swipes it goes to lions because of the humerus. It's denser and bigger. Tigers take the category of wrestling as they can take down bigger animals.
@@Christmas_tree90238 tigers have better paw swipes simply because they use their forelimbs in hunting and fending off other tigers.

I think a lot of people don't realize that cats in general are freakishly strong. Much stronger than other animals their own size and even animals considerably larger than themselves. Cats muscles are built for explosive power while other predators muscles are built for stamina, like canids
True. This is also why Canids and the Mustelidae end up being better hunters regarding their successful hunt rate.
@@thepack9070 absolutely. Cats go full bore and can't sustain that expenditure of energy for more than a few minutes. They can maintain a trot of 10 mph for several miles so their stamina isn't as bad as most people think. But compared to canids and mustelids those two have much better overall stamina
@The mammal yeah you're wrong. Cats are pound for pound a lot stronger than bears. A cat that's similar in size to a bear is going to be stronger. This is pretty common knowledge. But fanboys don't care about facts.
Secondly no where in my post did I say cats were the strongest overall predators. But again, you as a fan boy see someone stating a fact that another animal is strong and you just can't take it. You have to spout off and say "rahhh! I'm right! A bear could destroy a battle ship!" honestly, get some help. It's pathetic
Lions are very strong cats for 7 reasons why:
1. Powerful jaws
2. Razer sharp claws
3. Dagger like canines
4. Muscular shoulders
5. Bigger skull
6. Powerful bodies
7. Teamwork

It's almost unfair for lions to be in a group or team but ya considering they hunt and fight as a pride they're the strongest group in the wild Kingdom
True
The thing about lions is not only are they top predator in their habitat, only herbivores are bigger than it, but if it had to compete with other bigger predators, it'd still have the upper hand and eventually run them off due to hunting in prides. Bears and tigers are solitary animals.
Barbary lion vs polar bear 🦁🐻❄
