He really is something special. Wonderful guitarist.
He's BRILLIANT! One in a Million! IMO opinion he comes up with some of the most wonderful Guitar leads... Cheers! :)
Such an underated guitar player
Yeah your right
I was perusing the Blink-182 reddit and people were talking about Jerry Finn and the records he's worked on. "Sing The Sorrow" has some of the greatest guitar tones of the past 20 years on it. They're so good, that nobody has let the word get out as to how they achieved some of the MASSIVE tones on that record. Jade is one of my favorite guitar players not only for his sound but also his playing. He's able to play those bar chords with all the distortion in the world, yet you can hear EVERYTHING.
CINEMA TWENTY FOUR no but Butch Vig at least revealed what gear was used.

Thank you so much for this!
CINEMA TWENTY FOUR no problem at all
wow keep doing what y are doing you could be and well be Avery good. gutiar player y have your own style. Amen
you are very gifted ..I love your playing it's you all you Lois fr.Texas
It has always blown me away how Jade makes complex playing sound simple. He uses massive chords and incredibly thoughtful compositions, playing lead and rhythm at the same time with true mastery. What a killer writer and player he is!!!
So talented and yet still so humble . Love that about Jade
Wow. I grew up with Jade and was good friends with him. We skateboarded all the time. Very talented and intelligent man.
Cheers bro
Ed Marmon
I bet there’s still plenty of kids skating in Ukiah too! Cool to hear man
Love his tone, everything he does is beautiful, great band
Easily on of my all time favorite players. The stuff he comes up with record-to-record is just so creative, and melodic whether it's heavy, clean, or in between.
Love to hear The Leaving Song Pt 2 without distortion.
art of drowning and Black sails in the sunset are still one of my fav. records of all time
an underrated musician who deserves more praise.
Jade is amazing. There is no band quite like AFI. Thank you for this one, Ernie Ball.
His tone is the one of the best for that band/genre. He's a great player. Always blows me away
This video is an absolute treat. Jade is extremely thoughtful about the musical direction of his compositions and it really shows. Thanks for the interview and the performance!
Agreed! He is so talented and such an amazing musician... His AFI/Rock leads on their songs often take my breath away! So creative, so talented, just brilliant! Cheers! :)
One of my favorites. Dude wrote the soundtrack to my life
One of the most solid rhythm players around and when he does throw a solo it’s always well done albeit short. Have a hard time playing his stuff for any length of time... all the full barres takes a lot of grip strength. Most underrated player ever imo.
He has that atmosphere when he plays. Big sounds.
I am a metal fan. Most of the guys I know who play are into classic rock and metal, I am kind of alone in my appreciation of Punk. I love all music, and Jade is one of those few players who have it all. As AFI, you cant nail them down to one sound or genre, sure, there is a certain time that is my favorite, but I have huge respect for people who keep expanding and dangerously exploring. He is a wonderful atmospheric player, I hold him in high regard with Adam Jones and Kim Thayil. They write their own way, blaze their own trail. I read in an interview that Jade likes metal, I felt he was a cool guy for being honest and outside what the punk scene would officially accept. All respect and appreciation.
Perfect explanation man. 👍
Jade definitely has it all! You can tell he truly loves the instrument and the craft.
His playing and tones on Sing the Sorrow are some of my favorite, to this day. I won’t bother trying to describe it; you just have to listen to it to understand :)
Jade doesn't get enough credit in the music world. Literally molded AFI into his vision. Still to this day, I have not heard anything remotely close to Jade/AFI's melodies, style, tone, composition. Black Sails, Art Of Drowning, Sing The Sorrow, Decemberunderground is all you need. I respect all they have achieved and the newer records still rock, but for me, having grown up with late 90s early 2000s AFI - that is what I always turn to and it's because of the fire that was there in the beginning.
Jade is a really skilled guitarrist. He is brilliant and I really like listening to his interviews
7:04 this is why I will support AFI no matter what
Love the backing track to this! It's so cool listening to him play everything sans distortion
Very inspiring guitar player. Super underrated in my opinion.
He's one of my favorite Guitarists/Musicians! The songs/music/guitar leads that he comes up with!? They blow me out of the water... He is a WONDERFUL Guitarist/Musician! He also seems like a very genuine, kind, down to earth guy as well... I'm very happy for him and all the success he has had! I agree with your opinion too... He composes some AMAZING music. And seeing him play live... It is always pretty much flawless! Cheers! :)
Jade is seriously one of the most impressive rock guitarists to emerge in the last 20 years. I love his philosophy on writing and musical progression. He's said before that there are tons of AFI songs that haven't and may never be released just because they write so many of them for their albums, but once each album is out that's kind of the closing of a chapter for them, and they just go onto writing the next one. I think that's why their albums are always so solid, because they're literally picking the best of the best, out of the hundred or so songs they explore, it's always the ones they consider their best that end up on the album. Even more impressive is that of their unreleased music that has leaked, they're all bangers in their own right, they just didn't fit on the album. Yet it just goes to show how great a musician all of the band members are and how much love and devotion they pour into their songs and their albums that even the things that didn't make the cut weren't excluded because they aren't good, it's just because they didn't fit.
Jade is the man! Unique style and self taught!
One of my favorite guitarist and love his passion.
One of my favorite guitar players. So much well in taste to put his guitar parts.
Very inspiring artist.
Inspirational, awsome
This is probably my favorite of all the String Theory videos.
Beautifully emotive playing.
Love jade !
One of my favorite Guitarists/Musicians! He also seems to have a very humble presence/tone about him... Just love his creativity and art!
Love his shredding
One of the best ever. Slick af
Such genius in his playing.
I would like to personally thank the virus Mono for giving us the best punk guitarist of the late 90s and 00s
Jade.. you're a genius 💚
Im a huge fan of the early AFI stuff (the Nitro years) really not a fan of their newer mainstream stuff BUT Jade was a huuuuge influence on my guitar playing and I learned a lot from his playing style. Seeing him jamming here on those riffs and songs was pretty cool.
Amazing guitarist, a very big influence in guitarist playing style's. It could be a couple power chord verses or single note stuff but you can hear the influence J. Puget has had in so many guitar player's style's and riffs/song's.
I also use those strings till this day lmao. This dude is amazing and i learn so many things from him. And i started just like him, selfthought and difnt know any music theory. And i like to solo. Im starting a band. Hopefully one day ill be touring and ill have the chance to meet this amazing guitarist
Best guitar tone ever !
I like jades use of all 6 strings... Very underrated guitarist
thank you Ernie Ball : you made / make great strings and very nice ITW of cool Artists ;)
I play guitar and been a fan of afi for many years and iv only just realised what an impact jade had on my playing style, it's like a cross between billie joe and jade's styles.
His sound is as haunting as it is mesmerizing 🖤🎼🎼
Inspirational!
I hear him playing these songs that I don't know maybe I never heard them. But I just imagine Davey vocal melodies in my head and its afi
Jade is a force, that is for sure.
One of my top 10 guitarists.
Phenomenal guitarist + greatest band of all time.
God I love Jade.
Jade 💓🖤
Black Sails is a killer record, thanks in large part to this dude.
Jade writes great music
He's dope!
I don’t like the band but I respect this guy
thisismatt!!! Afi gets a bad rap but I’ve always loved them, but at least you’re respectful of them.
Black Sails In The Sunset.
The Art Of Drowning.
Sing The Sorrow.
(The holy trinity)
jade is a guitar god
Probably the only correct tab we'll get for leaving song pt 2 lol 🤘
Early 2000s I had a friend who was so gay for Davey in to afi hardcore. I really liked their early shit. The new shits decent, (idk the new new shit) not many bands have a unique sound. AFI is one of the few.
Was it me lol?
What is the song Jade is playing at 6:05?
My guess is Snow Cats? Just in a different way.
Sounds like Wester to me in a different key
Definitely don't think its Snow Cats. Same strumming pattern to Wester, that was my first thought.
Nobody is telling AFI they can’t be aggressive anymore
Song at 2:18?
Luis Flores leaving song part 2
Sam English thanks!
what is first song?
snow cats
i just checked out XTRMST and they remind me of like, Joy Division crossed with Psyopus or something
What's the song at 3:40
The Leaving Song Pt. II
This guy is some kind of alien huge hands..
The old metal vs punk thing....
where can I hear this extremist witches?
The chorus to snow cats sounds like along the way by bad religion
@ernieball was Jade only playing thru the pod?
Clean he is, Distorted he's playing Diamond Amps.
One of those bands where I think "what the fuck happened to these guys?"
Sing the Sorrow was the last one that was acceptable. all downhill from there. their early stuff was so freakishly good. sad when bands change so much for the worse.
very likeable dude, though.
Jade is a God tier guitarist.
