I had the honor of meeting one of them several years back.
He was a very old man by then, but he was down to earth and very personable.
Listening to him was a memorable experience. Those are moments for us to cherish if we love real History.
Question now, was it worth it.

My Father was in the FSSF. Never spoke much about it, but they did some very big things in the war. Liberated Rome and concentration camps.

That's $500K the producers will never see again. I mean how do these movies make money?? And that scene at 0.06 has the 'actors' wearing current day clothing lol.
When I was kid my grandfather told me about climbing up a mountain in Italy and having a German shoot at him with bits of rock hitting his face. Strange to see it in this trailer. He joined the 1st SSF after going AWOL from the cavalry because he said the Army wasn't exciting enough for him.
He went AWOL. They would of charged him.
The First SSF, 'Devil's Brigade' [as they were called by the Germans at Anzio] are one of the ancestral units of the modern Special Forces.
This unit was one of the truly unique units of War Two, and I encourage any War Two historian to read the first person accounts of their service. The brigade served from the Aleutians to Paris, leaving a name that is honored and revered.
It was at Anzio that the 1st Special Service Force inspired the "Black Devils" nickname, which appears to have been an invention of the Force's intelligence officers. There is no record of any German ever referring to the Force as "The Devil's Brigade". They were referred to as "black" devils because the brigade's members smeared their faces with black boot polish for their covert operations in the dark of the night.

Years past due, a decent movie about the toughest commando unit of the Second World War, the First Special Service Force, the Devil's Brigade. A combined unit of American and Canadian soldiers, that terrified the Germans.
I like the 1968 film "The Devil's Brigade" but it could have been better. For one thing, they climbed Mt La Difensa at night and in the rain in real life.

I knew somebody in this unit and his name was Chester. He lived in Philadelphia in Bridesburg section.

They already made a movie back in 1968 Called the "Devils Brigade" with Cliff Robertson & William Holden and according to some actual members of the unit it was "entertaining but rife with inaccuracies". I imagine seeing how this comes from Hollywood it will be on par with the film made in 1968.

They did their jumps (two to qualify, not five) wearing football helmets, HBT overalls, and that modern tactical hold! I know it's silly wee inaccuracies but I do wonder what else they've gotten wrong...
When they do a night scene and you can tell its filmed in daylight with a blue filter, that shows me it is a small budget hack job.

The Devil's Brigade was on of my favorite war movies growing up. I hope they make it a worthy remake & not some mamby pamby Thin Red Line bullsh*t.
Jumping out a plane with that M1 loose single strapped helmet could get you killed, why no paratrooper liner and straps? I hate inaccuracies.

Funny you should say that, because according to "military experts", many classic war movies are LITERRED with inaccuracies. And nobody complained back then about MOST of it.
@@sigmacademy Actually, they did, my friend FSSF veteran Bill Story told me that he walked out of the film premier to Devil's Brigade with William Holden, another FSSF veteran Sam Magee hated that film Inglorious basterds (even though it's pure spoof). When you say "back then" when are you talking of?

Doesn't look that great. Very wooden acting. Think I've been spoiled by Band of Brothers, Saving Private Ryan etc
It's also written and directed by Dave Bresnahan, which is why everything has a cheesy Christian-movie vibe to it.

@@PhillipKnox What's been re-written? I've always known. When I was in 3rd group we had the history of the Devil's Brigade right at the entrance of Group headquarters for everyone to see. Based off the trailer this movie looks like it's going to be boring af anyways.

I already spotted ten mistakes in military uniforms, protocol and conduct. What were the tech advisors doing, drinking beer and watching from their chairs? Or were there any real military advisors?

Because none of the original members of the Devil's Brigade are alive or well enough to be technical consultants. Care to list all 10? Besides M1s being used in lieu of football helmets for the jump, there's no uniform inaccuracies.

I love WWII movies, so much so I named my dog after Juno Beach. Sadly from this trailer...the cinematography this movie will not do well at the box office. These types of movies need to filmed similar to Saving Private Ryan / Band of Brothers with that grey washed out look and non vibrant colours
That's why it's already a winner in my book, I hate that drained garbage of 95% of movies ot there now such a terrible trend going now two friggin' decades...must be the longest running most annoying trend in human history brainwashing people with that stuff.

So omce again a movie completely skips over the fact the Devils Brigade was fitst deployed tocyhe Aleutians first.

so many historical inaccuracies already, just in the trailer. Look at the opening scene when he's departing on the bus. Family is wearing modern clothes... bahahaha. This is another WWII movie I will most likely pass on. shame.

Why, because you're seeing more natural lighting and colors again in a film opposed to the crap they toss at us these days 95% of the time. Boy, have we become indoctrinated to accept pure garbage that 25 years ago would've had stood a chance of being made that way. So deep we've fallen into the abyss...
