  • I replace my WiFi 5 FlexHD access point with a new WiFi 6 U6 Mesh. I also give my explanation of why MU-MIMO is a big deal in access points and routers.

    OMG, you got many APs 😮
    Funny to follow all the upgrades.

      I like that too. And improve on it from my first video, and get PoE+ working with solar 🤓

    Hi Lars,
    great video. I'm about to buy unifi outdoor ap for 2 ip cameras, some IoT devices and 3 smartphones when I'm or other people are outside. Recently unifi ac mesh has been restocked and it's 1/2 price of u6 mesh. Do you think that ac mesh will be enough? What is the range of u6 mesh?

    • @LarsKlintTech
      @LarsKlintTech  Рік тому +1

      Thanks Pawel. Appreciate the watch.
      The coverage is roughly the same I think. I get about 200 meters in a straight line with both, but that is also with no obstructions. The main difference is that the U6 Mesh is Wifi6 and has a 4x4 MIMO antenna so it is both a more modern tech, and it can support a lot more devices. Both devices are very reliable in my setup so far.

    • @pawelgrad
      @pawelgrad Рік тому +1

      @@LarsKlintTech Thanks! probably I'll go with ac mesh for now and when my setup outgrow it's capability I'll switch to u6 mesh (or other up to date device then) and use ac mesh as mesh point.

    • @LarsKlintTech
      @LarsKlintTech  Рік тому +1

      @@pawelgrad Yeah, that is a good approach. The AC Mesh is a good device.

    how hot does yoru unit run. mines pretty hot to the touch

    • @LarsKlintTech

      Really good question. I just went and measured it with my thermal camera. The outside temperature is 18C and there is light rain. The U6 Mesh runs at about 44C and is definitely warm to the touch. I don't think it is unusual though.

    Which is better ruijie 6262(G) or U6 Mesh?

    • @LarsKlintTech
      @LarsKlintTech  11 місяців тому

      That is a good question. I haven't tried the Ruijie 6262(G) AP, so I can't comment on actual implementation. On paper they seem to be very similar, however the U6 Mesh does have a 4x4 MIMO antenna, so you can have a lot more concurrent connections, and it has theoretical higher network speeds. Personally I like the design of the U6 Mesh better, but that doesn't affect performance (I think).

    Unless you have a faster wired connection then 1 Gbps to the rest of you network a higher speed is only useful to other devices on the same AP. But given that throughput speed on WiFi are always halfduplex meaning both upload and download combined it really shouldn't be a big problem but in theory if you were to get devices that used all 573 Mbps and 4.8 Gbps you would lose over 60% of the speed the moment the data goes from the AP to the switch.
    But unify really should have put at least 2.5 Gbps ethernet on all their WiFi 6 products.
    But using 40 MHz channels also eliminates most of the problem since it also cuts the throughput in half, meaning 4x4 link is a around 1200 Mbps download under ideal conditions.

    • @LarsKlintTech
      @LarsKlintTech  9 місяців тому

      All very good points Lasse, and shows how much maths there is involved in figuring these things out 😂 If Unifi put 2.5Gb ethernet on all switches, they couldn't sell their Enterprise switches 😛

      Can't stay in the past forever. Unifi used to new and exciting. Now they is nothing special.

    Have you tested the range of this AP?

    • @LarsKlintTech
      @LarsKlintTech  10 місяців тому

      I haven't specifically tested the range, but I have connected to it from over 100 meters away in a direct line. Perhaps I should do a video on the range of various Unifi APs 🤔

      @@LarsKlintTech that would be great. I have an area of approximately 8 acres to cover with WiFi, and have 2 AC-M, one U6-LR and one U6-Lite, and have lots of places to cover yet. I didn’t liked the LR in my case, so maybe the new mesh will perform better in my use case.

    • @LarsKlintTech
      @LarsKlintTech  10 місяців тому

      @@gfjardim1983It would be a little while, as that is a quite involved video, but I like the idea.
      The U6 Mesh is definitely suited better for outdoor than the LR or Lite. Have you considered the AP-Mesh-Pro? It has a great range and because it is "previous generation" it is probably also cheaper now. Unless you are set on Wifi6.

  • @balla2172

    No you can't get 5gbps throughput there is only a 1gb Wan port and say it's device to device unless you have wifi 6e with pci4 m.2 rives on both devices you MIGHT get that rate

    • @LarsKlintTech
      @LarsKlintTech  Рік тому +1
