Thank you for this. Exceptionally useful, and you wonder why Ubiquiti don't make such installation videos. I'm installing a mesh and 2 * 6 Lite APs into our village's pavilion, and needed to work out how to mount the Mesh onto the underside of external roof overhang, and didn't know about this mount plate until I saw your video. Now I've seen it, the job will be trivially easy.
Hi Ian, I stumbled across a few of your videos by chance looking for info on Shelly devices and the U6 Mesh AP. Really enjoyed your content, hope you put out more. Quick question - how's the U6 Mesh AP been since installation? I have a very similar situation to you, in that I want to extend coverage in the garden, especially as I want to add a Shelly relay to allow smart phone / Home Assistant control over our sliding driveway gate. Cheers.
Great video. What size and type of screws did you use? I have a similar project where I will be installing it into the soffit too.
Thanks for the video, do you know if mounting these outside would help the connection inside the house in any way, I have cat6 for my cameras but no cat 6 inside the house was trying to use these to help with my second floor internet.
Thanks for the video, I am not tech savvy. I have to mount mine on the outside of the wall of my shop. WHAt wire do I need to hook up? I have ethernet cable in the shop. Do I install a router than run a cat 5 cable to it?
Hey Ian, thank you for the upload! What's the range like on these? I'd like to use one to cover my back yard. The whole area is clear with no obstructions with the furthest away point being roughly 27 meters from the access point.
The furthest point away from the AP in my garden is about 20m and at that range the Unifi app reports that the Wi-Fi connection to my phone is 100%. Speed tests at that range don’t appear to show any reduction at all. I can’t quite test at 27m, but from my experience so far I am confident it will work well at that range.
Is the ceiling mount actually the Access Point FlexHD Ceiling Mount? I can't see a Mesh 6 specific one? Cheers
Oops, just read you notes!😀
Do you know how warm the access point is? Not only the part outside, also the part of the access point which is inside the roof would interesting, as the Unifi devices get hot quickly.
Good question. I’m not sure to be honest. I noticed while testing the AP before installing it that it gets warm to the touch, but I’m not sure exactly how hot it gets. Not sure if the UniFi software includes temp details, I’ll try and take a look a little later.
I think it is possible to see the temp via SNMP, however this would be just the internal temperature. Do you have a chance to touch the AP from inside the roof? (I know big ask, but much appreciate :) ) @@ianburgess525
For this specific setup was there a benefit of this over say the U6 Pro?
I wanted something designed to be outdoors permanently. From the research I completed at the time, I believe the U6 pro can be outside in a protected area but does not have the same level of weather protection as the U6 Mesh. Because of this, I decided to go for the U6 Mesh.
@@ianburgess525 ahhh ok, thank you, this is helpful. I have the pro and the Mesh and was trying to decide which to put outdoors.
