I recently bought the Longines and I love it, the internal dial makes it feel almost kind of dressy in the way the Seiko Alpinist does. It's a great everyday pick for me. I just wish the bronze and green colorway had come in that size!
You can get big discounts for Oris watches. I got my green Aquis 41,5mm on a rubber strap for a bit over €1000 and bought the bracelet for €300 additionally.
@@keefw361 I got it unworn (like new) from ebay where the seller (from Italy) wanted around €1200 and I offered €1000. We finally met around €1060 as far as I remember. Thanks for this comparison. It made pull the trigger on the Oris Diver 65. The 36 mm has really brought the vintage vibe back. All the polarizing issues are actually what makes this watch a blast from the past. The one I really appreciate is the domed sapphire crystal, gave this 36 mm size its presence. Sad that they have discontinued this size. They should have offered more color ways. BTW correction on your lug width spec Teddy, it is 17 mm not 16 mm. Thanks again for what you do.
I love what the Oris is doing with their movements and products. But the Longines is so much prettier. SO for me its a choice between aesthetics and value/tech.
The Longines Legend Diver no matter the case size is a nice watch when you hold it up close. The Legend Diver comes with other strap options. I do like Oris as a brand. They are releasing a number of great watches recently. Not that many ADs for Oris compared to Longines.
Thank you, Teddy. I love your videos. Best watch channel by far. The Longines diver has gotten so much praise. I kinda don’t get it. I find the dial busy with all the hatch and dot indices. I prefer the Oris. 40 and 42 are too big for me, but I am having trouble getting up the confidence that 36 won’t be too small.
Hey Teddy.. im curious on what watch are you wearing in this video.. and can you make it a thing where you show us what you are wearing at the intro of the video? I think many will find it helpful
The Longines is an absolute classic. Can’t praise it enough regardless of the size. Affer I got mine I insisted to get one for my special one. She still resists but at some point maybe.
The quartz movement used in longines are superb, very accurate and mines on 4th battery from new in 21 years. Also the finish is beautiful, great sapphire crystal, wrist band and clasp is made with great precision. I used to work on watch faces and indexes in la chaux de fonds. Very under rated and just as good as tudor in my opinion.
Oris 65. I tried the Longines at a boutique and it didn't "feel" like a tool watch, even though it looked the part. You'll know what I mean if you handle both watches.
The polished case does give a bit of that feeling. It’s more refined and less tool watch in its feel despite it being more capable in the water resistance category.
You should do an addition to your watch series with a top ten of most decorated case backs / dials for under 5k,4k,3k ect.. I'm wondering if there are some beautiful movements showcased under lower prices. Love your videos!
This may be "out of bounds" in both price and size....but the Longines reminded me a great deal of the Lorier Hydra in looks and function. (Or, the Hydra reminds me of the Longines...whichever). With the internal rotating bezel, 39mm and $500, it's worth considering if matching your requirements in size and price are considerations. (Love mine!)
I own the 65 but the 6 o'clock date window variant, such a great watch and a regular choice within my collection! We actually reviewed over on our channel a few months back. Ben - L2L.
I totally love the Oris, but I really dislike the flimsy bezel action and the 100 m water resistance. In contrast, the Longines checks all the marks, but I don't like the bracelet at all. It looks so cheap to me. A solid bracelet would be so nice on this one...
Longines, is my favorite watch brand. I own seven different Longines watches in my collection. As an avid Scuba Diver, I own a Longines HydroConquest Dive Watch which I love. I do not own a Longines Legend Diver watch at this time. I do love the design, however as an environmental Scuba Diver, ocean explorer, and as a scientist concerned about the environment and overfishing of our oceans, I would like to see Longines make a redesign change on the elegant Diver image on the caseback of the watch. I would like to see the harpoon removed from the diver’s hands and/or a new design of a more environmentally friendly diver on the caseback. So the diver does not appear to enter the ocean as a hunter, ready to hunt and kill aquatic life, but to appear as a diver entering the underwater world to explore the beauty of the natural environment and be respectful of all the fish living in their natural habitat. I have previously written Longines’s management and product development leader with this suggestion , even provided sketches as examples of a potential redesign of an environmentally-friendly looking diver. But, have never heard back. I love Longines, and as a Scuba Diver and ocean environmentalist, I hope one day Longines would consider my suggestion. I believe it would give the Longines Legend Diver watch a new and attractive look, and at the same time position Longines as a Dive Watch company concerned about the preservation of natural aquatic life in our oceans and waters of our planet.
@@Overeasyeggsoee Funny, but the crisis of overfishing and excessive spearfishing of our ocean’s reefs is destroying the natural ocean environments worldwide and is a very serious issue. Some of the other dive watch companies are becoming very active in ocean conservation and Longines can too.

Oris needs to release a 36mm version of this watch with a fully bronze case and a fully bronze bracelet. There are A LOT of men who would buy that watch immediately. And Oris, if you're listening, please leave the cotton candy out of it.
If you like the style and size of the oris diver 65, I’d say consider the glycine combat sub 36. It’s a crime no ones talking about it - it shares vintage styling but has better specs than the oris with 300m water resistance (compared to oris’ 100), applied markers (compared to oris’ printed markers), in-house movement, it’s thinner, and it’s a fraction of the cost at 450-600 usd (compared to oris’ $2200).
The Longines diver is so beautiful. I love everything about it, but i´ve heard people say that the lume of the watch is terrible for a diver. Can anyone confirm this?
I find the worries that people have about the Oris "only" having 100M water resistance laughable. It's ISO 6425 rated and most amateur divers are only diving at around 20M, with advanced open water certification taking you to around 40M. If you are basing your luxury watch purchasing decisions on whether or not you can dive past 100M then you are either looking at the wrong kind of watches or you're a bit of an idiot.
While I agree 10 ATM are more than adequate for most use cases, it should be noted that the water resistance is tested in static conditions. If you move your wrist fast enough in the water, it’s easy to reach higher than expected pressures. Also, why do you think there are so many 200, 300, 500 or even 1000mt dive watches ?
@@giusepperocchi2979 You’d have to move your arm at around 30mph in just the right direction to cause just 10M more pressure - that’s science for you. As to why there are higher rated divers….marketing and bragging rights would be the answer to that.
@@giusepperocchi2979 ISO rating means it really can handle 100 metres unlike a non ISO which is just static tested as you describe. You are not comparing like for like.
@@BulletBeena So nearly every diver in existence, starting from extremely cheap pieces like the Citizen Promasters, is rated 200M or more just for marketing reasons. You never stop learning.
@@giusepperocchi2979 I can be equally sarcastic and dickish by pointing out the Fifty Fathoms was less than 100m and the Submariner was originally 100M rated and they are both legendary dive watches. I’m not saying that the ratings are meaningless, because they are clearly certified to that depth. What I’m saying is that an ISO certified 100M dive watch is more than enough for the vast majority of people and it’s the marketing people who would like you to think otherwise. It clearly works too, as I’ve seen a few people on forums mention the Divers 65 (and other watches with 100M rating) and say that they love the design but wouldn’t feel comfortable with “only” 100M WR for everyday use so they won’t buy them…..which is ridiculous.
In Oris vs Longines, I'd always pick Longines. That's despite that I have a beef with Longines not having used the L888 in the 36mm LLD. They could have easily packed it in there. Oris, to me (important: to me, not universally) just doesn't deliver enough for the money. Their cases and dials are usually nice, but ones with a barely even decorated SW-200 can maybe compete with Glycine, not Longines. At least the way I see it.
Does anybody know if for the Longines Legend Diver it is easy to turn the rotating bezel while you wear the watch, or you have to take the watch down to be able to turn it? I usually turn the rotating bezel of my watch several times per day as I am using it for timing the amount of time while I am seated for ergonomics, for cooking, for keeping in mind the time left if I am expecting a parcel or some other activities.
I think that the Longines is a better value because of it's 300m water resistance and better finishing, I see the Oris more of a sub $1500 watch in my opinion.
A very difficult choice Teddy, both watches have the pros and cons, I really like them both but if I had to make a choice it would be the Longines literally by a whisker as I don't yet have a compressor style diver. The 65 is a fantastic piece though and one I'll check out at the AD at some point when they have any in stock. The same goes for the Oris, my regular AD's in the UK do not have either at the moment to see in the flesh and that's just as well this time of year given this seasons spending.
I own a Diver 65 in the larger case. It’s terrific. Cleaner look than the Longines IMO. great price with a 15% discount off retail. I have an Aquis GMT date too and I like it a lot, but the diver 65 is uncomplicated. They have different kinds of appeal
Will go for the Longines Legend Diver over the Oris 65. It is a more versatile watch than the Oris 65. Furthermore, the compressor style look of the Longines Legend Diver is very nicely done and is less common than the ubiquitous diver watch look that the Oris 65 sports.
Just got the 42mm Oris today and I have to say that I'm a little disappointed with how the movement sounds. Love the look and feel, but being able to hear the rotor turning is a definite turn off.
I would love to have a list of the most reliable watch repair experts to whom I can mail my watches. Most my watches are mechanical, but I do have a few quartz watches that I’m quite fond of.
I prefer to Longines…though maybe too small for even my 6.5 inch wrist…my wrist is flatter and I can pull off Tom SMP300…but I think the Longines 42 lug to lug may be too much for me…would have been perfect at 39….
I tried to sell my Oris 65 36mm but couldn’t and ended up selling my SNK308 keeping the Oris and buying a Tudor BB36 keeping the OD65. Also lets not be pretentious 100m is much adequate. Most of us are desk divers anyways…. Peace

@@thomasmoll8822 well, it's in the eye of the beholder isn't it. The tag stock just doesn't resonate with me. Both longines and oris are doing great. Good luck to tag lovers though. At least there's plenty of bargains on the used market for the tag guys
@@steviedj6730 - Well that (= personal preference due to esthetics) sounds much different from your previous comment, doesn’t it? I’d just suggest to never say never 😉
I would own the Monaco. That's the only one I'd own at the moment, but at the price point I'd prefer others. The brand isn't a problem for me. Just the looks. Some Longines and oris have a classy look.
I'd buy a genuine EPSA compressor vintage watch over either. Why buy a vintage clone when you can get the original and benefit from the appreciation while you're at it?
My preference would be the Oris, their watches just feel more robust and better made than the longines and considering it's an independent company without the clout of the Swatch group behind it, better value for money.
Oris diver 65 is not a proper diver watch and I think It is a bit overpriced compared to longines hydroconquest and mido ocean star that offers better specs at a lower price.
@@drdesign6886 I don't think it really makes sense but usually are considered divers watches with at least 200m of water resistant and more, even if 100 m are sufficient. Plus diver 65 doesn t have other proper divers features like crown guards, divers extension built in the clasp ecc
@@robertoesterini1021 I get your take. I think you are probably right - but given the 65 is a vintage diver then it hits a home run - the original Submariner, BP 50fathoms, 62MAS etc all had no crown guards, 100m WR and had no extension (usually they went on tropics - which I’d argue Oris do the best tropic on market today, and is option for the 65). I’d say the 100m WR was a purposeful choice as it better hits the vintage vibe on dial - and still meets modern day ISO standards.
Two of the best smaller dive watches... Right after - Sinn U50 - Oris Aquis 39 - Tudor Black Bay 58 Then -Oris Diver sixty-five (the ones with the blocked in Arabic's at the 3, 6, 9, 12... ) Then tons of other watches bfore that hideous Longines...
30 bar water resistance = c.300m, i.e. enough for a proper dive watch. 3bar = c.30m, i.e. okay for washing your hands, but probably best not to risk much more.
Still cant understand why Hamilton and Oris still use so bad lume. Thought several times of buying a copper 65 and Khaki King Day Date but the lume is just not worth the price
Great comparison, Teddy. I’ve longed for a smaller, no date legend for years. That tiny movement used totally ruins the dial with that date window location unfortunately. It’s terrible looking imo. Keep up the great work!

If Longines could just shorten the lugs...
that longines is a bit to breitling blingy to me.
brand value, quality, movement level, identity
--> Longines is better than oris in all aspects.
but oris is pretty nice watch!
Really as I've always found the finishing on Longines watches lacking. Sharp edges etc and just felt and looked cheap.
Is that a dehen moleskin shirt?
Good eye. It is indeed from Dehen!
@@TeddyBaldassarre I have the same shirt, but in rust
I'd buy a genuine EPSA compressor vintage watch over either. Why buy a vintage clone when you can get the original and benefit from the appreciation while you're at it?
Oris needs to be a man-sized 40 mm case IMHO.
My preference would be the Oris, their watches just feel more robust and better made than the longines and considering it's an independent company without the clout of the Swatch group behind it, better value for money.
Oris 65
Oris diver 65 is not a proper diver watch and I think It is a bit overpriced compared to longines hydroconquest and mido ocean star that offers better specs at a lower price.
Curious why it isn’t a proper diver? The 100m WR that ISO classifies as the standard for official dive watch status? Or something else?
LONGINES LEGAND DIVER BEST
I gladly would, but I'm still having a hard time getting my cats used to wearing watches.
Oris is better looking.
Two of the best smaller dive watches... Right after
- Sinn U50
- Oris Aquis 39
- Tudor Black Bay 58
Then
-Oris Diver sixty-five (the ones with the blocked in Arabic's at the 3, 6, 9, 12... )
Then tons of other watches bfore that hideous Longines...
The Sinn isn’t small by any stretch of imagination. Nice watch though.
Legend is quite a disappointment "in the metal"
4th
Third
... "but the most extreme underwater use cases". Pretty misleading from you. The Longines is 30 bar water resistant, that means not even shower.
30 bar water resistance = c.300m, i.e. enough for a proper dive watch.
3bar = c.30m, i.e. okay for washing your hands, but probably best not to risk much more.
Longines watch looks very generic.
Rumours they might be bringing back the no-date again next year.
Given how well the legend diver does for Longines I imagine they might add more in the future. The additions of the multi colors and bronze offerings gives me a feeling.
