I tried on the Legend Diver 39mm recently and it’s stunning. I always thought I’d choose a Tudor at that price point but the Longines has so much charm.
I tried on the 39 Legend the other day in my AD and was extremely impressed. A home run imo. Sat perfectly on the wrist and the BoR bracelet is the perfect complement.
Legend Diver is awesome, big fan since 2010. However, given it's fairly simplistic and classic design, the price at £3k for the 39mm is frankly outrageous. It should be a £1500-£2k watch in line with it's build, design and target market.
Teddy, your macro photography is outstanding and really captures details that get to the essence of a watch. For my money I’d go with the Longines as I prefer to have something distinctive on wrist… at the risk of enraging fans of the Crown, there are a lot of Tudor / Rolexes out there. The Longines would do a better job dressing up and down as well IMHO. That said, for actual diving, I’d get the Tudor. More legible face. 😊
13:58 - I really love my BB58, it was a no brainer when i bought it. I was looking for a vintage looking watch for daily use and change between my Omega Seamaster 300. I’ve got it in a classic black and bracelet combo and it looks beautiful. I think it’s one of those “Exit Watches” for me, and maybe a piece of a one watch collection.
The Legend Diver has a unique and elegant look to it, which I really like. (I have the green dial and bronze case, which is 42 mm.) It's also a strap monster. The BB58 looks like, well, a hundred other dive watches, although the green/gold BB is also outstanding in the good looks department.
I agree. I own both of these watches and I think every point in this video is true. But I find the Legend Diver more versatile and comfortable. I wear my Legend Diver a lot more than the Tudor. I swap between 3 different lether straps and rarely on the bracelet. I never had a question or a compliment to my Tudor, but people often have questions about my Longines. And then I love the big chunk of crystal on top of the watch.
Longines looks like no other. The "rice" bracelet adds a unique flare. Love your videos. Your much more informative than Frederique and without attitude.
I can not agree with heritage part. Longines has better heritage as a brand, and legend diver has better heritage than BB because it has its own design language. Black bay is retro rolex submariner. So, that is clear win for Longines. Overall i prefer black bay, but in terms of heritage - no no.
I have the burgundy bezel BB heritage and the dial furniture is just spectacular that it separated. The bezel is great and the movement is fantastic, but that simple dial with those reflections sold me.
Look at the differences in the precision of where the bracelet meets the case and how much tolerance there is between these two watches. Speaks volumes about their approach to quality and who is trying to create art vs who is trying to check boxes and sell a watch (7:07)
@@PepRex I’m not sure anyone can discern tolerance of a watch through a 2-d video, I.e. what is a gap vs. what is a shadow. I certainly can’t. I also think that external bezel helps, as it obscures the actual attach point.
I have both and feel the Longines wears thinner and lighter on my 6.5” wrist. Both are awesome all around. The Longines wears dressier with the beads of rice and is arguably dressier without external bezel. Tudor clasp much more premium. I could go on, but Teddy covered it. Both are keepers!!! 😊
Recently bought the Legend diver 42 with the bronze case. Great watch, I love green dial watches. So much different from the Tudor which looks just like every other dive watch.
I got the LLD in 36mm and blue fume awhile back and still prefer it over the 39. Then I got the BB58 earlier this year and absolutely adore it. Both are great.
I have both of these. On versatility, I would argue the Legend Diver is more versatile. With the beads rice bracelet and the inner bezel, it looks far more elegant and is more suitable for “dressy” occasions than the entirely toolish BB58
Ive owned the BB58 previously and loved it….id pick the new Legend Diver now though, love that vintage style, uniquness and history…the BB58 is solid but getting a little boring
On your point about crown placement…. The LLD having two crowns actually feels more comfortable because it doesn’t have the one singular pressure point right at the 3 o clock position that usually will dig into your wrist. By having the crowns at 2 and 4 it actually feels more natural and sticks out less than a typical crown and especially the BB crown.
@@alfieakaronaldog not true there are various occasions when a properly fitting watch can protrude into the back of your hand. Particularly when wearing multiple long sleeves, coats etc.
I own both. Agree with many of the points, great breakdown. The one thing I would add is that the Longines Legend Diver looks a lot dressier on the wrist. This gives it more versatility with my office and work environment. I have the 42 mm version of the Legend Diver with the Milanese bracelet which I think suits the watch much better than the beads of rice.
Ironicly I just got my Longines Legend Diver 39mm today and this video is being uploaded! Love the LD 39mm. Selected it because of the unique compressor case design. Like you said a lot of dive watches have similar looks as the Black Bay 58. The Black lacquered polished dial looks super good and have a glass-like reflection on it.
It's tempting to buy the Longines for the values, but Tudor somehow excels in overall fineness. At the end , it depends on your personal choice of the style and feeling when wearing.
Agree these are both great. I got rid of my BB58 as missed having a date. Same problem with this new 39mm Longines. Waiting for a 39mm Hydro Conquest to fill the gap.......
Great review. I recently purchased my BB58 Blue and it's beautiful. The bracelet is very well made but may give issue with the adjustment for some. I wish it had the T fit bracelet. I picked up an Uncle Seiko half link that matches very well and fixes sizing for some people for around $35 shipped. It is an absolute strap monster and can work so well with a brown, black, blue leather strap, rubber strap or NATO. The versatility of wearabilty after ownership along with the 5 year fully transferable factory warranty make the Tudor a standout.
@@ClaxtonBay123I don't understand the obsession with in-house movements in the watch community. Give me an odd the shelf and take 25%% off retail and I'm happy
Tried both. The Longines has more visual pop. However, the BB58 in black/gilt looks so much more elegant. The finishing and feel on wrist is at another level. The 58 just looks and wears more expensive.
Interesting. I have the opposite opinion. Bb58 looks like a generic diver that I’ve seen a million times from a thousand other brands before. The Longines looks thin and classy, which makes it way more versatile in my opinion. As someone who is active on the weekends and wears a suit to work, I feel like I could wear the longines with a suit or for a casual swim. No way in hell I’m wearing that bb58 with a suit.
Great video as always. I think the only category you didn't cover and could possibly include is: "Impressionability" or maybe "personality". Tudor Black Bay looks like every other dive watch out there from a $100 Fossil to a $10,000 Rolex. Longines LD is uniquely styled, unlike the endless genericness of dive watches out there on the market.
Great video Teddy, I have the BB58 in blue and absolutely love it! Would you ever do a comparison between the BB58 and the Oris Aquis Calibre 400 or the new Longines Hydroconquest gmt?? Thanks!
Great video Teddy. I’ve been going back and forth in my mind if I should go for a Tudor Black Bay 58 for a dive watch. I’m huge fan of Panerai and I’ve been hell bent on getting a Submersible from them but this video may have me leaning towards a Tudor instead. Thank you for making these very informative videos!
Two Great watches, however as I was buying for my sons 21st I felt that the BB58 was more suited to a young person with greater versatility for someone in that age group.I also loved its retro submariner look.
Both of these are one my wish list and I couldn't decide. So I was hoping Teddy's commentary would swing me one way or the other.......but I'm still torn. Will ultimately have to buy both over time I guess? 🤔
Totally of topic. However, could you explain why it seems like more and more models from luxury to budget brands are "sold out" or "unavailable" very frustrating. Thought you might know. Always like your content. You have taught me to appreciate the heart of the watch as much as it's skin. Great channel👍
I own the Tudor but tried the Legend Diver 39 on recently. For comfort the Legend Diver wins. I especially liked the easy to use on the fly clasp adjustability.
For myself, Longines gets the win for it's more standout design style. Additional case and face finish options would push it out front even further. Both solid choices within an almost equal price point though. Couldn't go wrong with either one. Feel free to send one out, for a full year review study. 😉👍
Great video Teddy! Perhaps you could add two more categories of value retention and warranty. How have the values held up in the secondary market over the last 5 years?
The Longines Compressor is more of a great all around watch or even a GADA watch, dress it up, dress it down, great water resistance. What a winner! Longines, on a roll , great value watches in their lineup ❤❤❤❤!
I own the bronze Legend Diver 42 and it's absolutely gorgeous. I, like a majority of folks who purchase these timepieces, don't do much diving beyond the deep end of the pool, so it's comes down to a style question. My personal style tends to gravitate more to the Longines (who have been on fire for the last couple of years). To each their own, and if you can--maybe have both.
I love the Tudor black bay ceramic ! I think both brands are great , just have different style to what you want. I have the Tudor for the everyday and the longines heritage sector for dress up occasions. I love both brands
I own this legend diver and i own a black bay (albeit the GMT). One aspect I specifically want to comment on is the bracelet. The longines bracelet is by far more comfortable. Its slimmer, has smaller links that wrap the wrist more closely, and it tapers 4mm. It’s shockingly amazing. Time will tell which bracelet is more durable (theyre both excellent quality so far).
Both favourites. But if i could have just one then the Longines wins. Its so stylish, different, novel, classy and classic that its appeal and interest shines. The BB is great but is lost in a world with too many of the same design.
Both of these are just great and bring totally different aesthetics to the dive watch genre. I'm considering both of these in '24 and I think only a try on session with both, preferably side by side, would give me the confidence to make the decision. Two class leading watches imho.
Longines 5 minute indizes looking all (+/-1) randomly way off between bezel and dial, while triangle @ 12 is almost on point… Both outstanding looking watches, a slight more love for the Tudor BB58. Homages Lover
They are both very iconic watches, I like them both, but for quite different reasons, BUT I don't own either of them! So here's what I bought in place of them both, a Longines Hydroconquest ceramic. To me it seems to combine the two outstanding elements from both of those watches and add to them in a truly modern way?
I like the BB58 but for me would always be a substitute for the ND Submariner I’ve always wanted. The Longines on the other hand is THE Legend Diver, so would be my choice
tudor is doing a review of early rolex submariner models. And given that rolex is restricting the sale, the only way is to buy the models that Tudor is producing. Therefore, I share with you that, if you buy the Tudor, whenever you look at it, you will be thinking about the rolex you couldn't buy.
Hi Teddy ! This is two real competitors here, I think first time the BB58 get a true companion in this price range. Maybe the new Seiko Marinemaster 39mm is an other new contender? Hope you'll release a video of these new seiko watches.
If I had the choice between the two, I would 100% go with the Longines. The Tudor is just a bit boring to me.. But also, I just like quirky things. Would take a Credor or Grand Seiko over a Rolex any day. And a El Primero over a Speedmaster 😁
I saw some video for interview with true professional divers they have many diving watch. Tudor is one of many true divers working watch in their daily operation. I never see a modern diver use a Longines diver watch for real diving. They are just good looking. That is the point. For me, both are good and loved. Just depends on the price which both are exceeded my budget to buy a diving watch for daily use. For a diving watch for daily use, USD 2000 is the most for me. We have many choices in this price range. Longines, Oris, Seiko, Casio, Citizen, Tissot, Certina .....many many out there. Recently, Tudor Pelagos FXD is hot. They catching my eye ..........and at a good price too.
Thanks for making this video. Both of these watches are on my radar. Question to Longines: The 36 and 42mm Legend Divers have beautiful sunburst dials, why not on the 39?
I can only speak for myself but after owning a Pootor….I mean Tudor, the charm wore off faster than any other watch in the collection. The Legend Diver 42 on mesh is a a real beauty in my eyes.
I own a BB58 - The design is so classic that it's a no-brainer for me. Lots of people call it boring but it's a classic for a reason. Perfect proportions, the feel on the wrist is perfect. I know it catches a lot of flack for the bracelet but I personally don't mind it. Longine is compelling but at the end of the day people are going to get the longine based off budget or if they don't want to be percieved as boring. In my opinion at least.
Wow I must say it's a tough choice for these two. I'm starting to admire Longines both it's rich understated history in watchmaking(great video btw) as well as just pleasantly offering great value watches in their lineup. I could argue that the Legend Diver is indeed unique with its looks but I could also argue that the BB58 could be your do-it-all watch. Personally I would go with Longines and I have to admit that it wont be hard for me to even just settle with the brand because of their great value watches and the watchmaking history to go with it.
The BB58 is on my list of things to pick up. I've had the pleasure of handling them in person on numerous occasions and I find myself loving it more each time (it fits perfectly on my 6.5 in. wrist). I can appreciate the Longines but the style just isn't for me. That could change if I viewed it in person, but I expect that since I don't like the design as much, it would really take a wow moment for me to choose it over the BB58.
I've had my new 58 blue on the wrist for about a month now. It's the perfect watch and I can't stop staring at it. I even bought a UV flashlight to play with the lume lol. If you can, pick it up asap you will be so glad you did.
Forme these 2 watches are on a similar level. But there are also cheaper options from other brands depending what is of importance to you. If I had to choose I would go for the Longines.
You can't go wrong with either watch; they are both fantastic. I believe an important question that any potential buyer should ask themselves is, how do you want to use the watch? Personally, I find the BB58 a bit less dressy, and for the everyday workplace, subtlety is crucial to me (I have a Brew Metric - Gold & Black, and I only wear it on the weekends as it attracts so much attention). I prefer the BB58's looks, and as a man with a gold ring on the same arm, I love the combination with the BB58 gilt dial. Finally, I was initially unsure about purchasing the BB58 as it was a significant investment for both me and my partner, and I had always dreamed of owning a Rolex; unfortunately, the Daytona will only forever be a dream. However, after having the BB58 for two years, it has proven to be the perfect watch. I find myself growing more annoyed with Rolex every week and enjoying my Tudor
The Longines doesnt have that Rolex Submariner DNA and that's why i like it. So many dive watches have that Submariner DNA that its nice to see something different. For just water utility i'm gonna get a Casio because sometimes you just eat a wave surfing and losing $3,000 isnt in the budget.
I find the Longines Legand Diver at 39mm appalling with the upgrade of technical spec and newer grey dial colour. Put it on a good milanese mesh braclet and wow!
Great review as always. Two very nice watches, but the Tudor although a nice piece in my opinion without the Rolex tag on how much Hype would it be getting. The BB looks like a Rolex Sub with different hands great but original NO. If any other brands do the same thing and they Do, they get crapped on for copying not having an original design and so on. Tudor gets a big pass why? Longines subjective yes but in person the watch is quite the looker. I know as an enthusiast we all jump on the train, lets be more individual and try jumping on other trains.
I have the BB58 blue and the 42mm LLD no date. In the back of my mind, I kinda think that the blue 39mm LLD could replace both with the size and comfort of the BB58 and the compressor style of the older, larger LLD.
The longines legand diver has been on my list for 4 years now. Only feature stopping me from purchasing it before was that it was a 42mm. 16th November, 2023, I already have tried it out and I want one.
First, both of the watches looked amazing in the video. I bought my Black Bay 58 the first year it was released. Kind of impulse but also kind of thought out. Before the 58 came out I was already looking at the Black Bay 41mm in red bezel with eta movement and also checking out the Harrods Green bezel one, I concluded that I felt it was too large and wouldn’t look great on my smaller wrist. The 58 came out I saw the videos and ads but didn’t think I could get my hands on one with the demand. One day a couple months later, walking in a local shopping district I saw an AD and thought why not check to see? Someone came up to me and we started chatting about watches and they said “Hey guess what we do have one of those in stock.” Years later it’s still my favorite watch. It’s my daily and go to when I don’t want to think. Goes with everything and the design is classy and sporty fits great on my wrist.
I tried on the Legend Diver 39mm recently and it’s stunning. I always thought I’d choose a Tudor at that price point but the Longines has so much charm.

Both of these are just great and bring totally different aesthetics to the dive watch genre. I'm considering both of these in '24 and I think only a try on session with both, preferably side by side, would give me the confidence to make the decision. Two class leading watches imho.
Longines 5 minute indizes looking all (+/-1)
randomly way off between bezel and dial,
while triangle @ 12 is almost on point…
Both outstanding looking watches,
a slight more love for the Tudor BB58.
Homages Lover
Awesome video my dude. I want that heritage Tudor so bad.
This easy...you buy both! I did...I just did it with the larger 41mm ETA BB and 42mm no-date Legend Diver
They are both very iconic watches, I like them both, but for quite different reasons, BUT I don't own either of them! So here's what I bought in place of them both, a Longines Hydroconquest ceramic.
To me it seems to combine the two outstanding elements from both of those watches and add to them in a truly modern way?
The longine looks stunning! So unique and eye catching!
Personally the Longines Spirit Zulu time is my pick of these two.
Longines looks amazing. I wish the 39mm had blue in the center like the 42mm.
Thanks for making this video. Both of these watches are on my radar. Question to Longines: The 36 and 42mm Legend Divers have beautiful sunburst dials, why not on the 39?
I'm planning on the Tudor for my bday this year
these are the arguably the classiest brands in the game right now,
I have the LLD 42 mm blue degradé and I wouldn't change it with these 2.
Actually, the 42 mm LLD with date is my wish and better than 39 mm in my point of view.
I can only speak for myself but after owning a Pootor….I mean Tudor, the charm wore off faster than any other watch in the collection. The Legend Diver 42 on mesh is a a real beauty in my eyes.
Any chance you can do a video review of the Longines conquest chronograph?
Thanks!
Spot on. Love to see a Rolex v Tudor for some of these. Maybe the gmts or 58/39 v sub.
Please review of g shock DW-5900BB-1DR please please
Personally I would go with Longines and I have to admit that it wont be hard for me to even just settle with the brand because of their great value watches and the watchmaking history to go with it.
thanks,,great video
currently waiting on a new BB burgundy but that blue BB58 is just staring at me telling me "don't wait get me instead!"
I have a 58, it’s fantastic. I could be a one watch guy with this. It’s dead on accurate too.
What about the Oris Divers 65 Caliber 400 ? Thoughts ?
Tudor BB58 blue is FANTASTIC!!😊
Hey Teddy, why are you not comparing or mentioning Longines Ultra Chron diver watch vs Tudor BB?
Tudor is in my option infinitely better looking, amazing watch
I'm partial to the Rado Captain Cook Bronze
So you and Courtney both released a video about an hour apart and they are both 14:33 long. That's so cute.
I purchased the BB58 last weekend. I simply liked the look and feel of the BB58 better than the Longines
If you have or plan to own Submariner, LLD39 can be a great choice over Tudor bb!
My votes for the Tudor in this comparison, but I am loving Longines!
Someone came up to me and we started chatting about watches and they said “Hey guess what we do have one of those in stock.”
Years later it’s still my favorite watch. It’s my daily and go to when I don’t want to think. Goes with everything and the design is classy and sporty fits great on my wrist.
Personally I think Teddy I think the battle against the longines ultra chron will be much better....I love this watch would like to see a review
Can't wait to get the gray 42 mm legend for reaching 1000 subs
This comparison is very well explained I agree the black bay wins.
