- Опубліковано 7 лют 2025
- This week’s Urban Valor episode features Marine combat veteran, Ryan Paulk. Ryan felt obligated to serve after the 9/11 attack on America. He enlisted in the Marine Corps as an Infantry Assaultman. Ryan conducted multiple combat deployments and shared with us the time he and his unit were hunting down an enemy sniper in Fallujah as a kid who was shot in the head by the Iraqi sniper while he was running up to Ryan. He also talks us through recovering a Marine killed in action from a canal in Iraq. And that is just a couple of stories Ryan shared with us from his time in service.
Please show Ryan your love and support in the comments as he takes a seat with Urban Valor and shares his INCREDIBLE story! We're so appreciative of his time and openness and would really appreciate our community showing their appreciation as well!

Most underrated channel on YT.
MUCH appreciated! THank you!
true that
Fully agree. It's not an interview it's 2 guys who have walked the same road together going over the real facts. Breathtaking but heartbreaking. I salute you all who have served for your country. True heroes
Yeah no shit I can't believe I only found this now. What a gem and this will last forever. Priceless stuff here.
For sure
0311 here that served in Echo Company, 2/2 in the mid 80’s. I feel immense pride when I hear my Unit mentioned by these young warrior Marines. I always feel guilt that I was not in my platoon in Echo Company to share in the hardship of Iraq and Afghanistan. I served for 12 years in the military, but I still have great pride in Echo 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines, 2nd MARDIV. Semper Fi
Thank you for you and your family's service and sacrifice to our country. 🇺🇲🇺🇸🇺🇲
Thank you for your service sir! All due respect and prayers for you! ❤
Semper fi brother
2/2 here 03’ -07’
He's right. His first words. War IS a drug. My best Bud was a marine, served in 3 wars, Gulf, Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom. He told me he would go back any day in a heartbeat. Staff Sargent who was a trained killer. Stories were incredible. SIEMPRE FI!! DO OR DIE!!!
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Yeah I agree it’s like hunting in a way once you get deep into it, out smarting animals, waterfowl, deer, it’s addicting regardless of how freaking cold or severe the weather is, the worse the better. Once you get over the idea of killing gods creatures as some kind of sin thing then it’s just food, meat etc. the more you kill the easier it gets, pretty soon it’s like a job or work , lather , rinse , repeat without any morale or ethical mental dilemma. Imagine a Dr. In a. emergency room, every days 10’s of people come in with gun shot wounds, pretty soon everyone is just another victim, in an endless stream of wounded soldiers eventually you are numb to what’s really happening. Hunting can be boring spiked with a precious few seconds of having more work to do than you can handle trying to harvest as many as a daily limit allows. I think human minds can detach a bit to help focus on what needs to get done.
Definitely have this Marine back on for a follow up. Amazing hero right there! Thank you for your dedication to the mission and your service!
We can try and do that! Thanks so much!
You can tell he's reliving these stories as he tells the stories of what happened! It sounds like he's having a hard time telling the stories!! Sorry brother you had to go through that. Hopefully you can clear it out of your mind some day!
🙏
🙏🏽🇺🇲
I’m only three minutes in and I noticed That immediately too and is actually why I came to the comments to see if anyone else had noticed too or if I was just me
You can tell this guy has definitely went through some serious shit just by the way he’s telling his story and his face. Definitely some serious scars. Thank you all for your service. Love this channel.
For sure. He’s hard to follow sometimes, but I feel bad because I know the dudes been rattled a few times.
So glad I found this channel. Former Marine here. No combat, which I feel I must say. Most of my trauma comes from my time as a paramedic after I got out. But this video made me want to get connected with other veterans in my area. Nothing like working out with other Marines. Keep each other tough. Ooh-Rah!
God bless our Marines! Thank you for your service 🇺🇸
♥🇺🇸
Damn, I was holdin it together this whole video, then that story about the kid broke me 😔🙏🏼 I pray for everyone’s healing.
🙏
Solid interview, with a Solid dude. He was always a guy of a different caliber as a young man in my few short interactions with him. I'm not surprised by his exploits and his dedication to the Marines around him and his country.
Much appreciated 🙏🇺🇸
I freaking love this guy, quite humble warrior. A true bad ass! Thanks for your service!
Thank you for your service, you’re appreciated. I’m so sorry for the things you’ve had to go through.
Thank you for your support 🙏
Thank you guys for your thoughts, your service and your sacrifice!! Y'all are my Heroes, you always will be!! I love my Country and our service men and women! Y'all are Titans, God's Speed - from Texas!!
Appreciate the support 🪖
Didn't hear about his book. I hope he has a book.... I hope he is considering a book! The stories he is recounting and the incredible humanity he is telling it with, truly requires a depth and deep dive into our humanity as a whole. This man, deserves all things good unto man. Solid 💜🙏🏼💜
Takes a lot of strength to recount all the things he did in this interview. Ryan, thank you for your sacrifice.
I've never been in combat but hearing Ryan tell the story of dragging one of his fellow Marines out of that river was very tough to watch. I could just feel the tension and stress from watching him explain it...wow!! I had to stop watching after the kid getting his head shot off story. WOW!!!! God Bless you Ryan and thank you from the bottom of my heart for serving this great country.
I'm pretty sure his unit relieved my unit (3/5 wpns co. CAAT) in Fallujah
Another 2/2 Warlord. Love to see it 👌 Awesome video gentlemen!
Thanks so much Cody!
2:55 I think this may be the first person I ever heard that actually learned from other people’s mistakes! Lol sometimes I wish I had, but then I would be who I am today and know what I know and it’s the reason I’m so humble ❤
🙏🏼
This man is a hero! Anyone who puts their life in danger to save someone else, or there body is a hero
🇺🇸
This is wild I knew Ryan for a bit we both went to the same school. i knew he was prior service and deployed but only knew very little of his time at the embassy. The things he’s seen and been through are no joke my hat goes of to him because of how composed he is especially for the stuff he’s seen and been through. Hopefully he’s doing well and in the field of what we went to school for. Ryan if you see this it would be awesome to catch up!
Also i would’ve never seen this video if it wasn’t for instagram so you got your self a subscriber im for sure going to watch more of your work great job man!
You're a good man brother and God loves you and i love you. Thank you for what you've been through for us.
May God bless him bc he still dealing with what he experienced over there everyday in life you can see it and hear it on him 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Badazz bro. I found another golden youtube channel.
Each Military vet needs time & support to just Exfel & Exhale.
As your countrymen, we are aware that we dropped the ball & we have been on the incline to increase funds for Vet support. That mission has been molasses slow... But _Thank you for supporting each other_ 🇺🇸
Semper Fi devil dog. I had the honor of being called a united States marine during peace time under president Reagan. I sacrificed none in comparison to you. I stand in awe of you, you're sacrifice and pain. You sir are a hero, national treasure and the only hope of victory over the ongoing attack from within. Only a few will join us but it ain't ever took but a few, the proud. God's Speed Marines!
Semper Fi, Steve! Peace time or not, you chose to sacrifice a portion of your life to our country and were willing to do what many before and after you have done. Always beside you brother 🇺🇸
How he does not cry is unbealeavable, strong man, thank you
Thank you for you and your family's service and sacrifice to our country. 🇺🇲🇺🇸🇺🇲
Fellow New Mexican Marine here, and to hear he's from deming is insane, gotta love that green chili, SF brother
This is really good channel. I think you are doing a lot of good for the vets but also for the public who have have not been in combat. It is good for the public to have an idea of what they been through
Thanks John. I really appreciate that.
God blessed you and protected you
Thank you for your service
Please continue to talk to others and do what makes you feel good
I hope you stay healthy and happy
Love to you
We as humans need to hear about the harsh, horrible truth that is reality. May it encourage us all to love more. Thank you Ryan.
That mwss unit he was talking about was mine. Ssgt vermillion was one that lived through that ied. He is one of my best friends and I would have been with him if I didn't get augmented to another mwss unit. I left in 05 to get out when my unit was rotating in...
Wow! Small world. Semper Fi 🇺🇸
Jus subscribed. Thank you for sharing. Semper Fi 🇺🇸
Much appreciated 🙏 Semper Fi, Leo 🇺🇸
Wow, I’ve listened to all your podcasts. It’s crazy to hear he’s from Deming, NM. I’ve been here for a few months. The town has definitely seen better days but there’s some really good hearted people here.
It’s 2 in the morning and I can’t stop watching these
Definitely have this guy back ! Great stuff! Keep up the great work sharing these guys incredible stories!! Much love and respect from Buffalo,NY
Deeply grateful for you and to you
Fantastic work, thank you for what you did keeping us safe.
You do a wonderful job with your content. I started watching a few weeks ago. Went through the ones I could find. Listening to these guys it brings back a lot of memories from my multiple tours. If you need content I have a couple guys you could contact to add to your channel. Semper Fi brother.
I just found your channel. This interview is fuckin heavy.
We appreciate your support so much Joshua, thank you so much man!
The story is very familiar and takes me back. But what he said at the end about the Veteran workouts, “it reminds you and about WHO THE FUCK YOU ARE”, hit home the most. I need to start looking for some sort of coping activities
how he doesn't have more subs is beyond me , excellent channel ❤
Ryan is a precious Veteran, a National Treasure. He is an American Hero. My heart hurts for him. He is the best of the best! We don’t know them All, but we owe them All. From my heart, Ryan, thank you for your courageous and selfless service to our country.
Semper Fi, brave Marine 🇺🇸🦅🙏❤️
Marines have a very special place in my heart. I worked at MCRD, San Diego, seven years during the Vietnam War. My Marine husband served in Vietnam. My uncle was a Marine. He fought in some of the most fierce battles in WWII.
Appreciate your words brother 🤙🏼
@@UrbanValorTV 😊🇺🇸
Man, some of these are painful to watch. I feel like how can I help these guys but I'm not one of them. It's a helpless feeling. I hope they know how much they are loved and appreciated. Don't even know what to say.
I hope this marine is ok. You can hear the stress in his voice.
He's doing great! Thank you 🙏
Great channel. genuine stories . please don't put in to many ads tho. 🙏
Another 🔥 episode 💯💪
Let's gooo! Thank you!
He was 17 in 2001 and barely looks older than me (I was only 4). Glad he got to survive and age gracefully
Thank you your kinds words brother 🤙🏼
Semper fi brother
THanks so much for watching Rey! We appreciate it!
rip to that marine he pulled out. It angers me I couldn’t go and serve in these wars, 22 years old here looking to join and honor those who served and died
Articulate, well composed guy. Thank you, Holy Heavenly Father: for making Hearts like this.
This is like the 3rd time I watched this video.. my boi is a warrior forsure!
Appreciate you watching 🤙🏼
Hearing Him talk about the voice He heard or sensed made Me think a similar thing that I experienced and years later I read about in a book Titled Cypress House. I cannot say it was audible like if someone else were around they could hear it. It was more in My head but startling because it was as if it were coming from outside of Me.
Great content, keep plugging away
semper fi brother

Amen brother
Awsome intaveiw, love the veterans,
"least we forget"
Thank you so much!
32:36 43:42 God bless this marine, it's hard to believe that I somehow earned the same title this man did. I couldn't lace his boots, I pray somehow he finds the peace he very much deserves. You sir, are a hero & don't ever let anyone tell you different. I always asked why, why I made it back & some friends didn't. What if we switched seats, or humvees. I do believe somehow everything happens for some reason & one day maybe even our last on this earth it will finally make sense to us.
One of the best interviews on here.
What's unique about this channel is the interviewer was a Marine and can totally relate to the guys being interviewed. Not just some academic journalist who's boring as FCK
Great content wonderful video

Awesome man there there the true rock stars
Im on here bc Leti doesn’t buy you tacos so I’m showing support so you can buy your own!
hahahahahahah! Thanks Jay. I appreciate that lol
You said it best. “We were fighting against people in cars.” One of those people blew up one of our Squad Leaders in Diyala Province. Some firefights, lots of IED’s. The enemy was very good at disguising IED’s in animal carcasses, and trash, etc. I was there (some time spent at BIAP as well) 2003-2004. A VBIED took out the Al Sharki Police Station and killed several Iraqi Police Officers.

I’ll never get the smell of burnt flesh out of my head . Once you smell that in these conditions anything close to it brings you back there .
Hero the Afghan warrior has been mentioned on on one of Shawn Ryan’s show before also I just can’t remember which one
When it's General Dunford ..... Happened to me.
War isnt the drug feeling important and feeling a purpose is the drug
I think it's the high-level adrenaline rushes he's referring to when he talks about war.
This reminds me of a show that had real footage of the Patrols done by the navy seals I think it was. They didn’t wear big suits or anything like “Hurt locker”. Just regular military uniform and gear. Just clearing roads of IED’s. They had robots they’d send in and a Big time armored vehicle called “The Buffalo”. It had like a microwave/ scanner rack attached in front of it to help scan for these things. Even some of those got taken out. Extremely informative show but sometimes hard to watch. Definitely makes a person appreciate their efforts even more. Some reason it was taken off the air after I think the 2nd season. This reminded me of that. That place was like stepping into the pits of hell. I salute every one of our soldiers who served in that place and also other places all over the world.
I hate IEDs. Beyond frustrating. A cowards tool... but undeniably effective.
After I got out, my hometown lost a guy that joined the Marines. The first thing I asked, was how did he die. Thankfully, it wasn't an IED. At least he went down in the blaze of glory. 'Till Valhalla!
This man has mos def been in the shit, big time. Simper Fi, Bro.
That is a LOT to take in. A lot to process.
Absolutely 🙏
The Iraqi sniper videos he was talking about is called juba it’s on YT

I remember Juba the sniper well 2005-2006 2007-2008 2010-2011
I can see this guy has a lot of shit bottled up inside. I feel for him. But still one of the most relaxed down to earth dudes I have seen on here. Just like a cool ass guy just to sit around and talk to while still being a bad ass. Becoming my favorite channel to watch!! I found this channel not long ago so got a lot of binge watching to do. Thank you for what you’re doing for these guys! 👊🏼💪🏼🫡🇺🇸

High explosive blast waves are f*cking mind bogling impressive. I worked as a contractor for Predators and Reapers. take RDX it has a detonation velocity on 27,000 fps. what's an AR 3,200 in 20"config.. we were fighting ISIS all over but one time a JTAC called us mischief X (cool a$$ name) and had contact with group of Sally's (ISIS fighters, Daesh) idk why we called them Sally's but that's the name for em. anyway these 5 guys went into a big drainage pipe and we laid a GBU-38 right by the opening and the effects were disgusting. the blast was dismembered 3 of them immediately and shot out pieces of the other side. the pipe functioned like a cannon and blew everything out at astonishing velocity. we had to zoom out to see whole picture and where they came to rest 2 bodies shot out whole with arms and legs but they didn't move again. explosive blast waves are deadly fast, the compression, negative pressure and the heat. thats why they burned that Jordanian pilot. apparently all our strikes our main explosive filler was Tritonal which is super fast but made to be hotter (heat) to propagate the hence wave longer. so all the bodies look burned and charred up. crazy stuff.
Jordan pilot?
