Everyone should thank Oisin for the work he’s doing. There is nobody on his level when it comes to UA-cam content creation for watch collectors. Bravo 👏🏼
Yeah, he should go to Hollywood as a movie director and as an actor 😂 A little mytho the guy
I agree. There is nobody as big of an arse hole on UA-cam as him.
Totally agree👍
TGV of Urban Gentry does somewhat, imho..
I don't think anyone has the on location (Italy,Rome) views etc that I think makes this channel great.
This is why Oisin is so important for watch community! He is not a mere ‘Watch Reviewer’ but a story teller and a glorious one at it! Fabulous video !
Oisin, you are a fantastic story teller! "When did it stop being a watch....and start being a circus?" You nailed it with that statement!
*Being a good storyteller is a trait of The Irish.*
When the world became a circus, then Rolex followed!
Not only Oisin, so are the replies in your thread. LOL I came for the conviction, but stayed for the fun.
Life is good, and if you happen to be fortunate enough to have a luxury watch on your wrist, all the better. Live for today, for tomorrow is never promised.
Beautiful video, Oisin!
The artistry that you create with your videos is unmatched. You truly have a gift. You are a true story teller Oisín.
Oh yeah he tells stories all right, acholics can always spin a story
Brilliant Oisin, thank you
@@ChrisJones-ki2bx Scruffy alcoholic. You forgot scruffy. 😎
@@ChrisJones-ki2bx too much deflection there.... The more fingers you point the more point back to you. Stay off the nose beers.
@@ChrisJones-ki2bx LOL
I rarely comment on UA-cam videos but I absolutely loved this piece of work of yours. I found myself nodding all the way through with what you were saying.
OMG, I now know I’m not the only one that feels this way!! The only 2 Rolex’s I own are the 214270 MKII and the 216570 Polar! What a stunning pair they make, 39mm matte black dial 3 hander and a 42mm 4 hand gloss white GMT. The perfect 2 watch collection!!! Absolutely pure and true just made a little bigger(modern) and more robust. Thanks for the AMAZING Fing videos!!!
I applaud and curse you, Oisin. I love your high production videos. I hate you personally because your passionate, brilliant, art has me gripped in a trance when I have other shit to do. I raise a glass to you, my distant friend.
Now that Oisin was simply a work of art. I would put it out there that that was the definitive commentary of where Rolex is at. This is what you should be doing. Leave the bloody “Cartel” alone and focus on your amazing talent. You are and artist and a real watch commentator my friend. Great job!
Couldn’t agree more
“A watch made to withstand the pressures of immense depths, but will never see the ocean.” Just beautiful. 👏👏👏
One of your best ever videos Oisin. Please don't ever go the same way as Rolex yourself.
Brilliant! One of your best videos yet. The soundtrack was spot-on as well as the great shots of the watch. And your commentary regarding the state of affairs with Rolex was right on the money. Keep up the good work.
About 30 years ago I became a Rolex fan because of my (Italian) father. He always wore a Rolex Submariner, not because of the image or price but because he was convinced it was the best and most indestructable watch ever made. Whether he was wrong or right is not important, but this just cemented in my young brain that the watch to have was a Rolex. It was the best. He let me wear it when I was 13, going to a restaurant together.....I was in the clouds. Many years later I now look at the brand and the buyers and recognize nothing. I have one on my wrist right now, but it doesn't feel like it did 30 years ago. And that, I hate.
Your father was right
I still think the same way about it as you used to, I don't pay attention to current day buyers.
When I bought my Sub in '95, my Dad said "Don't do it! Rolex is becoming a shell of what they started out as." He said I should get an Omega instead. I don't regret getting the Sub but I now understand what his point was. But if I could do over I would've bought the Explorer II.
Man, wearing this brand since 1983, you really tied it all together and took me down memory lane. Well done 👏
I really like the montages. Makes me a little melancholy. Having witnessed the trials and tribulations you have been through recently, this video has a special resonance. I watched your early videos regularly. Went away for a year or so and returned last week to watch the livestreams with Paul. I was saddened. The ugliness of the petty world had breached the defenses. I am happy you made this video. Let those who dare throw stones have the stones to put themselves out there and take what they have showered upon others. I know that is not what your video is explicitly about, but that is how it lands with me. I appreciate the suffering that accompanies the success. One is never given something for free. The price is dear.
Fuck me, if I’d have known I would have told Oisin to get rid of his Rolex’s and move out of Venice and then people wouldn’t have got any blood clots, an earthquake, war or a train crash could have been prevented. Actually, I’m going to throw away my Calvin Klein underpants and stop the next famine in Africa.
@@Tobester_McDonkey Yet you still watch him despite your abundant compassion for all the suffering in the world. How do you find time and space in your heart?
Com’on Oisin
They were not all tool watches
They had the flashy day date since 1956! Even Paul Thorpe’s unborn great grand child probably can tell you that
Think you’ve been drinking too much whiskey lately chap
Rolex were THE tool watch brand. It’s just history sir. You can disagree with it but you’d be wrong.
Hi Oisin, i bought a 39mm Explorer in 2017 because it was reliable and rugged enough for mountain adventures. Only after did i realize about this whole bling Rolex circus so this video had me saying yes yes out loud while watching. British fella living in Japan enjoying your videos immensely. I watch other channels but get most excited when i see you`ve made a new video cos you have a gift of conveying the reality of what it would be like to wear the piece in daily life. Nice to see someone who has managed to handle being a successful youtuber with grace. Thank you for all your work and wish you all the best.
OOM goes all Adam Curtis :)
Good video.
Well said Oisin, I purchased my all stainless Rolex Perpetual date brand new 32 years ago and have worn it daily since (bar time way servicing). I have battered it to hell on adventures and it carries the scars of everything from working on motorbikes in far flung corners of the world to firing weapon systems and people criticise me for it sometimes but I wouldn't have it any other way. I did not buy the watch to look flash, I bought the most basic low profile Rolex I could get because I wanted the toughest mechanical watch I could get and it has never once let me down. The only watch I would replace it with if I had to today, would be the Explorer 2 in 36 mm.
Great content again by Oisin , the scene that got me is when the music is at its most creative and the man on the gondeler was pointing at something for the passenger a very powerful and moving moment
Nicely done! Thank you for all the hard work that goes into it!
That was just fantastic. Beautifully put together and a great perspective. Bravo….encore!!!!! More please!!!!!!
Damn, Oisin. The symbolism of the artists combined with the music choice... hard not to see a parallel. Well done.
Legendary soprana Maria Callas was the greatest of all times...
Great video....that's why I went with the new Ranger. It still feels like a tool watch, and Tudor kept true to the original. In person, it's such a great everyday watch. KEEP UP THE GREAT VIDEOS!!!
You are the best! I never get tired watching your videos over and over again. I share it with friends and relatives. You are a remarkable artist. Kudos to You! Live long ….stand proud.
my first Rolex was an Explorer 2 and it still remains my favourite and most worn Rolex, just such a fantastic watch.
Same my first real watch was an Explorer 2 polar I wear it nearly everyday with confidence and without a care that I may scratch it. A true tool watch with an amazing gmt function!
18:45 Meanwhile in Oisin's "Rolex datejust in Bologna" video......
"I've been wanting something from the side of the catalog that's very sparkly, very high society..."
🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
After a 2 and a half year wait, I got the call last week on this stunning watch,Thanks Oisin for showing the history of Rolex watches with absolutely beautiful cinematography 👏
Mate. I think you need to make more videos like this for each Rolex watch. These are too good. You’ve had me in a trance for 20 minutes.
Again, thank-you for a great video, commentary, and overall casual approach to this watch, and not commenting on the darn value. Its value is the pleasure in wearing it!
Just got my Polar yesterday from the AD after waiting patiently for two years. This is my first Rolex and my grail for EXACTLY the reasons reflected in this video. Love it.
oisin, i love your watchumentories. the timing, the images, the music, the script, the concepts. love it.
This is your best video Oisin. Like a documentary. I really enjoyed this.
One of your best videos to date. The E2 has always been my favorite Rolex.
I especially loved the comparison to the Rickenbacker bass.
Wow, an almost tearful, dark presentation. I like it! This and the Zero West Battle of Britain S4 Spitfire video, two of the darkest yet wonderfully haunting videos from you. I am blown away...
Man this is just beautiful 😍 this is what we 'tune' in for, the rest is flim flam. You rock in this format, no you are the best story teller, no you have a touch that's is just sublime 👌. Love this ❤️
Oisin, your content is second to none. Here is to Rolex Eplorer II and Rickenbacker Jetglo; may they remain true to themselves, always. 🥂
The scenery/movies overlayed with the music is simply stunning. I am in awe of this videos man. Keep it up.
Love the video, I absolute adore my Explorer II...
Brilliant episode Oisìn. And spot on as of your "observation" of where this bling circus is going. Fab storytelling with your narrating/filming/editing. Just as your Mutemath -
Osin… your videos are some of the VERY BEST watch videos available on UA-cam. Poignant, succinct, supremely well edited and narrated. Most of all… they are powerful insights into what brands like Rolex now reflect in our cultural values as a whole. Bravo Sir!
Wow Oisin, Beautiful video with lovely music...you are definitely on another level with great taste & eye, keep up...love it !!!
This never gets old 💯💯💯. Keep it coming‼️‼️‼️
As a Rolex Explorer 2 owner i cannot agree more with what you say here.
When i bought that Rolex which is my first one, i wanted something traditional with a proven history, but also something that you don't walk into a room and see every man and his dog wearing, like the Submariner and Datejust.
Oisin, I haven’t watched the full video yet, but your opening montage is haunting! SO well done, so perceptive
Honestly, one of the best you tube videos I ever saw!! I’d never thought of Rolex as a sell
Out! I do now!! 🙏
I’ve sat here trying to put together the proper words that would give this video its proper due and will remain quiet in awe.
Thanks Oisin. This is an excellent and deep portrayal of the Rolex brand and the explorer symbol. The music, image, narratives perfectly paint the Rolex story!
Best video you’ve made so far. What a vibe.
I've followed your channel off and on since shortly after Edward Van Halen died, and your video about him popped up on my feed. Similarly, this video unexpectedly crossed my path today. Watching your work, I remembered that some of us possess talents that exceed the abilities of most. What you have done here is a work of art. I am astonished.
So many subtle cool effects. The seagull flying over the costumed woman. The end with the lume toggle and playback speed. Brilliant.
Finally!!! My most awaited video!
I have a few Rolex, this one included. It is my daily tool watch, and has the scratches to prove it. It’s bathed in sea water, fish blood, deer guts, sand sweat and ketchup. It is a true beast, and I love it.
Beautifully shot and profound messaging. Thank you for the effort you put into that!
My first Rolex was a steel date just back in the 70’s.
My last Rolex was the then new yachtmaster 40 steel with platinum bezel. Great watch, so comfortable on the wrist.
When Rolex dumped my small town Rolex ad who gave exceptional service and great prices that was the end for me also.
The new age of Rolex as you so eloquently describe is here.
Cheers.
Greatest watch video of all time 🙌 👌 👏
Wow, another “stunner.” The impact of this video has now taken me down a few notches on my waiting list for the Exp II Polar. 😂
This was probably one of, if not the best video on your channel. Hang on, maybe even the most enjoyable and interesting watch video I’ve ever seen on UA-cam! Honestly, keep up the good work, hats off to ya! 👍👏👏👏
Great video as always. Bought my first Rolex in 1989, GMT Master (16750) and wore it on alert (ICBM Ops), married in it, all 4 kids born while wearing it. It will always be a do everything watch to me. Still a tough tool if you choose to let it be one. Cheers,
This is the greatest documentary I've seen in years.
The explorer 2 polar was the first Rolex that I fell in love with, although I couldn’t afford one at that time, I opted for an explorer 214270 mk2. I learned to love and appreciate that watch for what it was, but still long for the 2165270. A true GMT that can hold its own in any situation. Beautiful video Oisin. 👏👏👏
I swear when u drop the final cuts Ush...it's giddy-fying - full cinematic experience! Loved seeing behind the scenes in your latest insta stories - would be awesome to see a full creative process of what u can share! Maestroclass!
What a wonderful video. You are so spot on with the way Rolex have gone.
Fantastic.
Thank you
From one Celt to another, downing a wee McCallan and wearing the Polar, watching your artwork in the mountains of Norway. Cheers!, Alex.
I can safely say that Oisín makes THE most beautiful You Tube watch content bar none, and probably some of the nicest in ANY genre. Thank you, Oisín!
Your photography narration and storytelling is enviable. Good work.
Wow! Thanks Oisín! Great view of Rolex Evolution!
This is an absolutely beautifully made video, I just recently bought these myself for myself with the black dial and I truly look at this watch the same way you do. I wanted a Rolex without the bling to wear everyday and pass to my grandson some day. Absolutely wonderful video.
Best Rolex video, let alone any youtube video I have ever watched!! Great Job!!
Art. Pure Art. When music and images blend perfectly. Bravo, Oisin. Another masterclass.
and yet another fantastic piece of film making by the talented one, the somewhat scruffy pensive one, always ruminative! lovely lovely stuff. am sure you could've been a lecturer or professor at university of either film, music , watches or of all! nice thoughtful b roll cuts of the marina. macros of the watch are superb matey and the sound track is well placed along with the slow flowing pans and zooms. top notch. hope you're on again tomorrow night for your normal LS. getting another 226570 this summer. the chroma, the clasp, the bracelt fit so snuggly like none other. having a chilled shot of Lemoncello enjoying this cinematic escape. , didn't know there are over 20 brands that make it. almost bought Aperol but too much sugar in the house! lol. by the way you give Rolex props you would think they acknowledge your works of art in some way shape or form eh? i agree i think Rolex's are being made these days more for status symbols as it were, to sort of say one has arrived. the 216570, 226570, 126711 are my absolute favs out of all of the line period. question: what was that sort of hair on the tip of the orange gmt hand?
Thank-you Oisin; that is a GMT Masterpiece.
In December 2019 I walked away from a Rolex Explorer 2 polar the same as here, in mint condition at £5k ($7k) on Sale at some ‘unknown’ store called Watchfinder (I learnt later that this is a premier store and famous on UA-cam for their excellent video reviews) at Brent Cross shopping centre in North West London. I loved the watch on sight and even moreso when I tried it for size. I resisted the impulse buying urge only to find some months later that Rolex prices were climbing during COVID lockdown 😢 Sometimes you need to trust your gut and give into an impulse buy to keep the old pulse a jolt and ticking along as nicely as a beautiful Rolex on your wrist 😊
It was a pleasure to watch this video. I subscribed a long ago, and I commented here and there for the good microphone, for the improved editing, and now I could comment on the improved background with lights, colours, and more studioish feeling it gives. The constant evolution you talk about is true, I really noticed it. And it offers a better viewing experience for us. Bravo!
I found it quite amusing that after watching your youtube video the video below was Paul Thorpe looking at some bling watches at his friends store 😂
Wow this was so good. What an incredible example of what is happening with Rolex.
Great video and great channel as always. Your voice is needed in the watch community. But I partly disagree with the premise of this video. For example people rarely used Rolexes decades ago to dive deep, same thing now. For example, people used the dual time complications decades ago, they still do now. It’s true that Rolex has become a “fashion brand” for some people but the designs and tools are as well loved now as they were decades ago by a majority of people. Including myself (I own 4 Rolexes and only bought them because I love their designs, quality and what they can do). Explorer 2 black dial in my collection, what a great timepiece!
The concept and execution of your stories and resulting videos is immaculate. Thank you again for hitting the nail on the head. It has gotten a ridiculous circus indeed. I‘d love to own a GMT Master II. But hey, just visiting a random AD and completing a purchase at retail……dream on. For some reason, Rolex must have an unlimited supply of Unobtainium. And no way in hell would I ever bite on their Certified Pre-Owned scam.
Love you channel, like your thoughts and ideas.
Thanks for your content.
Long live the TWC
You're more than a mere watch youtuber... you're a watch filmmaker. Absolutely exquisite. This is just brilliant. Just a thought - I am a watch enthusiast. But this movie exists in a different category. I can call myself a watch movie enthusiast now, purely thanks to this film. Would happily watch this with a glass of wine as an alternative to going to an AD to gush over watches... And that's quite remarkable. Well done Oisín, this has never been done before 👏
Totally agree, Oisín. My favorite watch in my collection is my 226570. Irreplaceable.
This was great viewing. Thank you!
The advertisement for the 6062 at 5:58 is incredible. That is my all time favorite rolex watch. It's too bad there is no equivalent today. Such a cool vintage piece.
I’ve enjoyed all your videos, but, Damn! This was so well put together. Thank you for your content.
Great work, pure class, thank you.
Once again a well told story Oisín! Very enjoyable to say the least & I’m happy to have a stink normal submariner in my collection. But you’ve definitely sparked my interest in the Explorer 2! Haven’t decided if I should thank you or not… Cheers from Zurich
Lately I've been getting bored with UA-cam watch videos. This one however was fantastic. I love it, keep them coming
My good man,
I have to say, this was not a watch video, but a piece of art. Thank you for not churning out one of those podcast style affairs and giving us something with some depth and artistic merit. Quite literally the best watch video I have ever watched - and not because of the topic (I own the 226570), but the presentation of the work. That’s a follow from me.
Also, could you do one on the sea master 50th anniversary gmt - I always feel like its a forgotten masterpiece.
Fantastic Oisin. RM Williams boots made for harsh Australian outback conditions are now a staple in boardrooms, there are many examples and I agree with everything you said. Even actual tool brands such as Snap On are now a status symbol in the garage.
Amazing footage! Thanks for your work Oisín! I have the black dial 216570 and love it- they nailed the proportions in this one.
EXCELLENT video Oisin! Your story telling is superb!!!
Great storytelling that was fun to watch... no pun intended. People who aren't into watches would love this just the same. Great job, mate.
Simply the best ExII video I have ever seen. He has exposed the spirit of the watch so I had to have it. Now it is my only watch, thank you so much.
What an Amazing masterpice of video. Class and art at the same time. I take my hat off, sir.
Bravo. The lume shot at the end 👏
If anybody else tried to create content like this it would probably be lame, but this 👌
On a tangential note, Oisin’s personal aesthetic is utterly on point.
Absolutely brilliantly crafted video for those that love watches! Great edits too! "When did it stop being a watch....and start being a circus?" Perfect statement! Forget all the shouting from one particular watch dealer. I'm sure most real watch lovers will get bord of that soon...This content is pure quality! Keep it coming.
Oisin, your creativity is unmatched…thank you for the great content..always looking forward to your content… best yet…
Your content is just top notch. Informative, creative, entertaining, soothing. Very talented and appreciate what you do and put out for us all. Thank you!
There are watch reviews and then there are Watch Reviews. This is the latter.
Stunning footage and discussion and I agree 100% with you. The gawdy tinsel that festooned on so many modern Rolex watches is everything that is wrong with the brand today. Show me a no-date stainless sub, an Explorer II, a stainless Explorer I and you see all the beauty and strength one needs and that, is beautiful.
wow, absolutely fantastic video, and perfectly sums up the journey of Rolex from a tool watch to where we are today
Bravo Oisin! What a brilliant video. You really did manage to put across the sentiments that I have been feeling about Rolex as a brand for a long time. They are not worn as the tool Watches they were built as now. With the prices they demand and the fact that they are hard to buy at retail has elevated Rolex to Jewellery instead. Their little brother Tudor has now to pick up the tool Watch baton and did so a while back I feel, as soon as the Pelagos was released.
Again, a brilliant video here. Top content! ✊
