First story - Utah. There are in fact some states that won't take the kids desires into consideration, and Utah has proved themselves to be top of that list.
Idk if it's the same now but when I was a child in Florida that threat also affected my sister and myself. The threat was literally made directly to me by a pos judge.
No way in hell OP’s hair dresser told her to go. If I had lost my mind tried that tomfoolery at a hair appointment my hair girl would have trapped me to my chair.
My mom told me that she had Money set aside for my wedding... she said that if i didnt use it for that i could use it towards a down payment, which is what we did as my husband and i got married for less that $500
I went through something similar and was told the judge will only modify such agreements in event there is evidence of physical mistreatment or abuse. Because emotional abuse is difficult to prove, there is really no option. My ex finally gave in as my son continued to run away from his house to my house. But otherwise the police would continue to come and take him back to his dads. So yes, the mother was telling the truth. The system is very flawed.
In New Zealand, the police will escort the child to the other parent no matter how badly the child doesn't want to go. If custody is 50/50 it's the parents job to make sure the child goes to the other if not, the police will make it happen. I found it heart breaking but tis the way of our law.
Thats so messed up! I'm from Texas and there you can choose which parent to stay with starting at age 13. I moved out of my dad's even before that (cause he really didn't care) and I can't imagine being forced to live with my crazy stepmom. This poor girl. I'm sorry the laws that way in New Zealand. Hopefully y'all can change things in the future.

There’s no such thing as loving our spouses unconditionally.
We love our kids unconditionally and most people love our parents and siblings unconditionally but, loving a spouse definitely comes with conditions. They can’t cheat, abuse the kids, and they especially can’t accuse you of cheating with a psychic vibrator.
I hope they recorded that conversation with the step mother and father for the next court date.

And saying the judge said so is more credible to a 16 year old than “I said so”

For the first story, I guess you don't know that there is some asshole judges out there. There are crooks in their ones that don't follow the rules. I've experienced that myself. It sounds like her mom is healthy minded so there's no reason for her mom to lie. They need to appeal and request a new judge.
Unfortunately even if you left the marriage bc he was abusive in every way possible he still gets 50/50 it doesn't matter the terrible awful things done and said to your child. Because he looks good on paper (high earner/ good job) and is a great liar. It also makes the poor kid feel like she doesn't have a real home.

The elopement $50K story- frankly if my parents told me that they weren’t giving me 50K because they were expecting my “husband to provide for me” when it’s 2024 and not 1932…I actually wouldn’t have invited them because they sound like terrible ppl tbh. Normally I am with you 100% but on the story about the Grandma leaving for the night, I disagree. Grandpa helped raise OP and working as a nurse is hard, grandma needed rest. Yes, the lying was wrong but I think both saying sorry was a good thing.
