Piking with surface lures is by far and away my favourite method of fishing. I have just bought the SG rad (rat).I tried it out on a short shore session last week, no takes so far but it looks so good. I expect more from it from the boat in shallow weedy bays and along the edge of reed beds. Sadly where I fish, cold glacier formed lakes the lure fishing becomes very slow in the colder months, so it will be next summer before the real potential of these lures will be revealed. My top water favouites include the Rapala 'Fat Rap' which fishes just below the surface, latex floating frogs and any 'popper' type lure, I have found even the 'cheapo' ones to be very effective. Last time out on the boat I pulled a 'vintage' (1970s) Shakespeare 'Krazy Krtter' top lure, it was one of my late Father's, a basic balsa cigar shape about four inches long, this one is in yellow and black with a metal propeller front and back. I took six pike over a dense weed bed on this one. Those fish clearly don't read angling magazines and didn't care that the lure was at least forty plus years old. I hope that the duck will become a favourite too.

4:30 That's why im NOT getting the Helios Ari baitcaster. The drag is so weak, and when fishing for pike, like Mads Grosell for instence, you really need a much stronger break then what the Helios Ari can do! Besides that it's a super cool wheel, and the fact that it goes in, weightwise, at 5,7 oz, is just sick.

Brackish Society They're both good baits, but of the two I love poppers because of the sound and ripples. Also stick baits are good too. You can't go wrong with a classic stick like the Smithwick Devil Horse.
Just got one of these to try! Where i fish ducklings have been getting nailed right infront of me by big pike in the 40 inch range!!!! Got me a 42 incher this year and a 39 incher so far!!!! Hoping to get that 48 incher plus!!! And i think its in the lake where i go! There are some beasts! Thhe bigger pike attack smaller pike there in the 30 inch range i have seen them and they look to be at least 45 to 47 inches!!!! The state record was caught out of my lake so i cannot wait to throw this there!

Replacement arrived!By the way, I did forget to mention that the original lure did have a decent strike however as most anglers will attest you can get a hit ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 and fish will hang on and release lure. I used the replacement lure yesterday and ran thru a Shimano Waxwing, Kastmaster, Bobber (set to sink). I found the does run deep (I casting on the flats 3.5'). Make sure you adjust your rate of retrieve and rod tip angle (up) to prevent getting snagged on bottom. Used it a couple of times and action was very lifelike (looked like local bait fish for trevally), craftsmanship very good....however eyeball fell out. I asked for replacement and it is on it's way! It was very easy to change out treble to single inline hook.
