A good mountaineering decision by you both 👍 A good place to bale Murray. Any higher and down-climbing becomes a little trickier. The 360 clips of you on the ridge are superb! Stay safe guys 😊
Really interesting video. I did the Inn Pinn in 2007 with my son .we are decent scramblers but fr this we needed some real climbing expertise so we hired the late great Martin Moran. Weather wise, our day was a carbon copy of yours....fine for about 1500’ but deteriorating as we arrived at the Inn Pinn to full clag, strong winds and about 15 degrees colder than at sea level. I was rather hoping that Martin would call it off but he decided to give it a go. I was in the middle of the rope. In the conditions, I was so terrified that I can remember nothing of the climb as I shivered my way up . This was followed by possibly the ugliest abseil the Inn Pinn has ever seen. Throughout the proceedings , Martin was fantastic. Just wish The weather had allowed us to see what we had achieved. Keep the video’s coming Murray.
Only just had a chance to watch this one as we had no signal in Shetland but I loved it! I appreciate the gratuitous footwear shot Murray! I laughed so hard that tea came out of my nose and went all over my lovely La Sportiva Boulders.
Jeez the 360 camera nearly has me falling off the sofa. Its good to show that turning back is nothing to be ashamed of. You live to climb another day. Thank you both.....Alioban
Cracking episode and I am sure it was the right thing to turn back - loved the footage with the 360 Murray.. really plays havoc with my vertigo..lol. Loved the view on the downward journey as you looked into the Bay... the campsite looks to have got a lot bigger since I stayed there in 2009. regarsd Al
Fantastic, atmospheric and spookily vertiginous- another brilliant video , thanks Murray. Your decision to abort the climb, was an excellent example of your skills and knowledge of the mountains. We can always trust you and Gerry to do the right thing. 🥾🏴⛰️👍❤️
My fist trip to the Inn Pinn was in similar conditions - beautiful in the valley with clouds on the summits. Never having been on the Cuillin before, and armed with more confidence than ability we headed up and into the mist. Up and up; reached ridge and followed a path along until we saw the Inn Pinn looming ahead. Then climbed the front - up the "v diff" which was a wet soapy rock scary horror of a lead with pretty much zero protection until near the top. But, hey, only a v. diff. No wind, though. Got to top, seconded up my partner and we abbed off. Hurrah. Excellent fun. Then the proper fun started - trying to get back down in the clag. Retrace your steps - how hard can it be??? Had 2 goes and lost paths, ending up on steep scree. Then managed to tag on to the back of a guided group after pretty much shouting for help when we heard people passing in the mist. Dropping out under the roof of clouds not too long later it became apparent where we'd gone wrong, but it was a proper lesson in how to not be safe in an unfamiliar environment. In the mist. Amazing place though and have been back a few times since.
A normal day up on the main ridge... When you've got sunshine and fantastic views, THAT'S an abnormal one ! I'd cached food and water at the summit of Sgurr Derrag, and bivvied there overnight on my two day solo full main ridge traverse. Snuggled in my sleeping bag, I watched the Sun set and finally got to see the Green Flash ! Good camera work Murray, thanks.
Good call, always frustrating when you have done that distance and altitude. Still recall my ascent of In Pinn with some mates and a guide. Weather wasnt promising whole route up and we were fully prepped to retreat but window of calm and views just opened up on Sgurr Dearg and we seized the window successfully. I didnt get a chance to really enjoy the scramble. Too busy assisting the lass freaking out on the rope in front of me. We all cracked it though. Very memorable. Thanks for reminding me with all your banter. Fantastic
Great filming, Murray; had us in the thick of it. The summit looked to be a metre away, but... "only half way". So happy that you bailed out; what would we do without Murray and Gerry.
My God, am on the edge oe'a chair hangin on, this yin should've came way a warning for the feerto heights 😮😂, jist Wow ,thank you n Gerry for this Murray, with ×+ Respect❤🏴❤
The right call without doubt. The Mountain will always be there for another day and another Scotch Egg. Still a great video Murray, very atmospheric. And loved the retro 70s style Scotland football shirt, with the AC/DC badge 😀. As always stay safe.
thanks Tony - the retro shirt is indeed an AC DC Umbro top in homage to their Gig at the Glasgow appollo in 1978 on their Powerage tour (I think 0:) Thanks for watching ATB Murray
I'd like to have £10 for every time Gerry said, "blowin' a hoolie" in this excellent video. 😉😉😉👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Another good one, Murray. Great perspectives, even if it was claggy. Can't wait to see where you two head to next while on Skye!
tune in next week to see The Cuillin in a slightly different light to this video ;) incoming - a rather exceptional day in the mountains :) Thanks for watching ATB Murray
Brilliant video Murray. The positives are coming home to your family and having an excuse to go back in better conditions to nail the pin! I can't get over the steering lock though.... I must truly live in the back of beyond 😅
Wow, serious stuff, the 360 footage of you both climbing the pinnacle actually made us feel a bit sick😬. Smart mountaineering decisions👍. Always a pleasure to see you and Gerry get together and do what you both do best. We will look forward to the rest of the adventure😊👊👍
Glad you enjoyed it! The following days adventure made up for this one - one of the best days I have had on the mountain for a long time :) Thanks for watching ATB Murray
Looking forward to getting maself up there. Hopefully when I eventually do it will be in better weather. Good call chaps. 👏 A wise choice from wise heads. 😉
Murray, I've seen what looks like a Garmin Inreach sat device on your pack in a few videos, wondered if youve ever had the opportunity to use it out in your routes? I know you often hike in some remote locations with poor signal and wondered if you could elaborate on useful or smart things you do to remain safe in these types of environments.
Good call! Two different atmospheres above and below I know the camera distorts the images but..that's pretty scary looking That was a big Scotch egg and they always look good! Until the next video..take care 🇨🇦❤️⛰️
All I can say is better safe than sorry with this one. This is one better done on a more hospitable day. You both made the right decision to abandon this. Stay safe and ATB Murray.
Great video guys that mountain looked super scary .... even if you did say 360 made it look worse .... looking forward to the next days adventure with you both😊😊😊😊😊.Thanks for sharing as usual 😊
I've only had to turn back from the hills a couple of times, but I've never regretted it. 🙂 Looks like you made a sensible decision. Gives you an excuse to return! :-)
Skye :) I spent 4 days in horrendous weather last week, did no peaks and ye both took an intelligent decision not to continue for sure ..looking forward to part 2 :) Even in summer I'd say its way to scary for me. Question though.. I'm presuming from your video you can access the pin without having to cross collys ledge ? Thk god for that. M ☘️
Yeah Collies ledge is underneath a separate mountain called Sgurr Mic Chonnich above Coire Lagan. The route taken in this video was from the base of the Glenbrittle hut via the Sgurr Dearg ridge. There are probably 3 or 4 ways to get to the pinnacle 👍
I bailed out before even trying, having got a sight of it from a neighbouring peak. Knowing I'll never get there is somehow comforting, because it takes the pressure off climbing all the Munros!
Hi mate. I tell everyone I see with one this fact. My campervan was stolen but recovered. That steering lock you have. I had . If I hadn't got it back I wouldn't have known that all they do it cut steering wheel either side and take it off. I now have disk lock
Well done, good choice! I'm too stubborn and fat headed to ever turn back so it's best I don't take these challenges on. That is bitter experience speaking. But you're a great example and a bigger man than me. And congrats on the first crooklock for the steering wheel I've seen since my wee Grandad died 22 years ago, you can't be too careful with all that crime on Skye 😂
Typical weather forecast, always wrong. You both definitely took the right decision to turn back. I'm supprised that you tried it in that clag, but fair play for having a go. It's better to be safe than sorry. Hopefully next time. Look forward to the next one. Stay safe. Atb Tim.
I think you made the correct decision to downclimb given those conditions. I was fortunate to get dry, calm , hot weather when I did it. The overhead camera is very misleading in my opinion - yes , it's steep and narrow but the camera makes it look worse than it is.
I got up the Pin in April 2011, during one of the hardest (or at least longest) winters in years. Waterfalls frozen at the coast for example. It was a perfect day, with snow flurries (I'm claiming a winter ascent 😏) and a pair of golden eagles to welcome us. Hoots, fae Tasmania!
Hi guys, cracking video as always, I think definitely the right call to not continue with the in pinn. Looked a bit dicey in those conditions, even though you are the Scottish Hillary and Tensing. I will let you decide which one is which! 🤣 Thanks for sharing your adventure and look forward to seeing what’s in store for day two. All the best, Dave 😀🥾⛰🏴🏴
That looked like a tuff climb Murray pity the conditions didn't improve bet the view's are spectacular up there can I ask a question what's the best jacket you have used for the outdoors ?? atvb Jimmy 😎😎👍👍
Thanks Jimmy Re the jacket - the one in this vidoe is a revolution race model, but have also owned lots from rab to mountain equipment. Lot to choose from and it depends on what sort of jacket you are after . I like all the above brands though and they have all given me decent gear over the years :) Thanks for watching ATB Murray
Hi - parts were done with the 360 camera that makes the selfie stick disappear (don't ask me how - its like black magic to me!!lol) Thanks for watching ATB Murray
It's a great shame about the weather when you've invested time and travel but no shame in sensible retreat. I mean most of us would require a general anaesthetic to summit the Inn Pin.
I am glad i did that when I was in my early 20's.
Indeed, my first Munro fifty years ago, I doubt I could do it now!
A good mountaineering decision by you both 👍 A good place to bale Murray. Any higher and down-climbing becomes a little trickier. The 360 clips of you on the ridge are superb! Stay safe guys 😊
I love the argument about turning back because it not being fun. True inspiration for how to behave.
Looking forward to whatever you do tomorrow.
stay tuned - the following day was an absolute belter and one of the best days I have had on the mountain :)
Thanks for watching

By gum it looked cold up there..🥶.... I hope day two was better for you both.
Better safe than sorry, another day eh, always a pleasure to watch, thank you for sharing.
I went up the Cuillin Ridge very long time ago now. Thanks for the Video.

10\10 for good decision making. Well edited vid. Thanks for sharing.
It was a very pleasant surprise to see you both on the hill I thought you might end up in the clouds
great call ..itl be there another day
Well. It's the way it goes....that's the mountain game. Some awesome visuals though Murray. Loved it...👌
Oh… is that what they call ‘Scottish mist’? So eerie and beautiful, I imagine the mist helps deflect the vertigo!
Good call. There is always another day.
Well done guys a very smart decision your experience made the right call 👍
Smart,heads-up climbing. Glad you gave up. I was getting very nervous watching you. The sun will come out and you can try it again. Cheers
I have a pair of those La Sportivas too! Love 'em!!
Did well to get as far as yous did

Never mind the hills , loving the retro Scotland top 👍
Brilliant the mountain will always as they say be still there for next time better to be safe superb really enjoyed that vlog
Epic Video! Loved the 78/80 Jersey too! The Best Ever!

The joys of the Isle of Mists.
There are old climbers and bold climbers but no old bold climbers 😂😂love Jerrys defender!
Great filming, Murray; had us in the thick of it. The summit looked to be a metre away, but... "only half way". So happy that you bailed out; what would we do without Murray and Gerry.
If you look hard enough up there you should still be able to see my teeth marks from a trip years ago.
😂😂😂
haha - I wondered why the basalt was even more grippy up there - the teeth marks explain it all ;)
🤣🤣🤣
And your skid marks😂
Less experienced and knowledgeable people would have pressed on to their own peril, right decision gents. Great video again 👍🏻
Good call, guys. I cannnot believe you made it that far, in those clouds. Thanks for keeping yourselves safe and God bless.

Taking the kids a wild camp om Friday is there anywhere you would recommend close enough to Glasgow n accessable by public transport?
My word, that looked incredibly dangerous. I think you were right to turn back. Great informative video though for others to learn from.

Never understand why anyone would want to do this. All that effort to sit on a rock in the cold with no view
