Thanks again for the vid! It gave me the confidence to change my bearings myself. I went the 2x4 and hammer plus being patient and careful and it was easy! I used a socket etc to get the old ones out and to fine tune the final seating I used ball joint press end tools plus dowel/hammer. Smooth and easy thanks to you! Btw I measured the torque breaking loose the small hub screws and I averaged about 30 inch lbs. I know loosening is going to be higher than tightening but 30 inch lbs is not much pressure so I felt comfortable torquing them to 30 inch lbs going back in. Again can’t thank you enough for taking the time to do this for us! Smooth sailing again. Went with the Burris ceramic @ $32 each I figured it was worth a try. The SKF ones were $100 ea at my local distributors! If the Burris ones doesn’t live up to the job I will absolutely spend the dough on SKF on the next change but so far these are silky smooth!!!

Just did mine. W O W. It's a new board again. So crazy smooth. I used a combo of wood and a drill press (used as a bearing press) to seat all the bearings. I am a bearing engineer and the note that is made at 12:30 is extremely important. It is not advised to install a bearing with a rubber mallet but if you do, make sure that the intermediate piece you are striking is in contact only with the outer race and not the inner race. If you strike the bearing through the inner race that impact load will travel through the inner race, through the balls and then into the outer race and can leave indentations in your bearing which would make it noisy and cause it to fail early.
@Shredd Labs In the description above you're noting SKF 61907-2RS (as in Sam) but in the video itself the number is SKF 61907-2RZ (as in Zebra) would you please confirm the correct nomenclature? I am ordering the bearings directly from an SKF distributer and want to make sure I'm ordering the right ones. I assumed Z not S. Thanks for your help!
@@eevees Hey thanks for the response, I already went with Z all those months ago. Another question is that there's someone on the OW page selling these SKF bearings for under 40$ each. Hey guys it’s easy, don’t stress. Patience, sockets to knock the old ones out which comes out super easy at least for me it did. A few Wacks with my 2 lb hammer and right out... Small piece of 2x4 and again careful to keep it even and start with light taps and when you’re 100% sure it’s even and enough to hold in place. You can start to hit with more pressure. A cylinder shaped big socket etc or whatever you can find, I have ball joint tools so luckily I found a piece that matched the outer part of bearing perfectly to finish searing it. But seriously very easy and you’ll get to know the motor etc and will be very happy you did it. Copper lead aluminum or stainless tube slightly less than the internal diameter of the magnet ring would help when having to install the internal bearing past the magnets

The rattling is likely coming from your headlight cable bouncing around and not your bearings. Bearings tend to make a clicking (when going from heel to topside) or grinding sound if they are bad.
I'm no expert but you can probably go another 1200 miles and still have a good battery. You might notice it starting to keep around 80% of it's charge at 3000 miles.
@@BradleySpence The + uses LIFEPO4 cells which have a lifecycle higher than most lithium batteries (around 2000+ charges) so based on that, I believe around 12000 miles and you may see battery degradation. Awesome video, guys. Thanks for posting. I'm a little bummed to hear that FM would use cheap bearing just to save a buck... Ugh. That's capitalism I guess 🙄 How did you notice the bearings were going bad? Axial play in the wheel? Stiff rolling?
"cosmetic sound" right? 🤣🤣🤣. A dab of grease on the o-ring will help to keep it from moving during install. I also wrap the metal press reach cylinder in a rag or whatever to avoid bumping into the magnets. Awesome tutorial!
You dropped the wheel out easily but didnt remove the footboards or bumpers or side rails. So why do all the tire change vids show them pulling the whole Onewheel apart to get the wheel out?
Wiz Rom This is also possible, you just need to take the handle off. As mentioned by Jeff early in the video he says that he’s only done a few changes and there might be the odd unnecessary step or two.
Did he really just say the new bearings will last a couple thousand miles? 🤨 Ive talked to a guy who has ridden 20,000 and still has his original bearings.
grock89 20,000 miles, eh? Im afraid to say that you’re friend is lying. There’s no one with 20,000 miles on the leaderboard. And yes FM doesn’t use the same bearings in every board. They have been known to use really cheap ones that only last a few thousand miles.
grock89 It’s not absurd and totally depends on the rider. If the rider is doing a ton of drops, riding during low-ride on the beach through salt water, or riding a ton of dusty trails, the bearings can wear a lot quicker. You can feel it in the board when the bearings are shot. I guarantee if your friend switched his bearings, he would notice a huge difference in smoothness. If your board is making squeaking or clunking sounds, it’s time for a bearings replacement. I’m not here trying to convince people to convince their bearings every 1000 miles. I’m providing a free instructional video and advice based on my experience in the Onewheel community over the past few years.

That's providing the batteries have stayed within there voltage range and no issues related to the Battery Management System have occurred. I hope this helps :)
So if you don't do all of this.
Is your Onewheel will still work at 8k Miles over
where is this being done and is he open to the general public for onewheel service???
Tearithin It’s being done at Sean’s place of employment in Abbotsford, BC, Canada. He does it for members of the OW community here once and a while but not the general public.
What is the actual size of the bear?
Wow the motor has a mini board inside right? I thought it just connect directly to the controller
Those are the hall sensors for the motor.
I'm assumung the gyroscope or accelerometer
Is it normal for these bearings to cost $150 or so each?
I've been looking around for those bearings you have in the vid but none pictured are green...
go to the skf website and use the link to find an authorized distributor in your area. dont buy on ebay.
Could you link those tires please? They look amazing!
www.shreddlabs.com/tires./
How much does onewheel charge for this process?
They usually replace the motor which can cost $400-$600 I believe. I don't think their repair guys even know how to change the bearings as they usually come pre-assembled with the bearings already installed.
@@eevees Very interesting. So if I try this and screw it up [because it was needed] - I'm only really in the hole my time and the bearings - because worst case I'll need a new motor either way.
Good information here. Thanks.
If you give me a dimension I can get you orings for that project.
Thanks mate , comprehensive and good humor , pleasure to watch . Through a national bearing supply company in oz I ordered skr619072-rs , was told if that couldn’t get they would Supply the equivalent. What I received NSK6907V vCMNS7S107 dimension 56 x 19 x 13.75 provide with a seal kit , As I am not and it seems inevitable you are ‘the bearing guy ‘ what’s your option are the NSK I have been supplied Equivalent or what ? knowing ( I think }that the dimension size on SKR 55 x 35 x 10 from memory makes these others not even close doesn’t it I will talk to the shop where I purchased when they reopen after the weekend and to find out all the way it is reassuring to know I’ve got that bearing guy there by my side when I’m doing change over home ,alone cold and lonely knowing that you are always there at the push of a button
Thank you
Please note the fully sealed bearing is the 61907-2RS buy this bearing and not the 2rz
are there ceramic ball bearings for the OW XR?
svtsnake Burris offers ceramic bearings , Craft&Ride website is where I seen those , was also just about to order them until I seen this, now I’m torn ....
I just spoke with the distributer, they seem to think that Z bearings are better for the onewheel due to heat/temperature variants being a factor.
Has anyone changed the bearings to a v1?
Are these the same bearings (replacements) as the ceramic hybrids craft and ride sells?
Jeffrey Jenkins No, these are not ceramic bearings. These are much more expensive but worth it. Ceramic isn’t the most ideal bearing type for the Onewheel
pricey, but worth it I am sure. $99 each on amazon sound about right?
@@JeffTheCSCS Yes, that sounds about right. Just be care because there are a lot of fake SKF bearings out there.
Any way to determine a fake other than price being too good to be true?: I. I have 2000 miles on my pint. Bearings seem smooth. Should I change bearings?
You're probably good if they're still smooth. Future Motion doesn't always use the same bearings so you might have got a good set.
Also sometimes it seems I’m getting earlier pushback. Does heat of the motor effect this ? Maybe in hotter weather or going uphill?
@@ken-mb5cp You shouldn't get pushback earlier. The heat of the motor or heat outside shouldn't affect it at all.
Bearing guy! lol...Thanks for sharing the video
The thread sealer tape is definitely not gonna seal that completely. They sell o-ring maker kits.
Also what's a reliable source to order these bearings from?
go to the skf website and use the link to find an authorized distributor in your area. dont buy on ebay.
Isn’t the 2RZ better?
One Stop Board Shop carries the O-rings.
So Sean works at Float life? Or is he a Van local guru?
No but he's definitely a local shredder and guru.
Does the XR use the same bearing size?
Yes. This was an XR. The Plus and the XR have the same bearings and motor.
How can I get to you to get my bearings changed?
You can check www.stokelifeservice.com to find a Onewheel service centre near you.
What do you charge for this service if needed?
We don't neccessarily have a service for this. This is just to show you how to do it yourself. Where are you located? I might be able to source someone that could do it fot you.
@@BradleySpence I live in the Portland, Oregon area. Just bought an XR and want to make sure I can get these things fixed if needed
Tell Sean there is a side business for individuals to ship him their boards and get their bearings changed. Price is not really a factor, it is the quality work that he does. Please ask Sean if he is interested. Thanks.
I wish I had these press tools ....
Good video. Thanks!
That’s a nice arbor press! Could you heat the hub with a heat gun and freeze the bearings to just drop them right in?
Awesome video, guys. Thanks for posting. I'm a little bummed to hear that FM would use cheap bearing just to save a buck... Ugh. That's capitalism I guess 🙄
How did you notice the bearings were going bad? Axial play in the wheel? Stiff rolling?
Thank you...Fingers crossed I don't have a press.
"cosmetic sound" right? 🤣🤣🤣. A dab of grease on the o-ring will help to keep it from moving during install. I also wrap the metal press reach cylinder in a rag or whatever to avoid bumping into the magnets. Awesome tutorial!
Good
Just got a board with 1655mi. Not looking forward to doing this
Sean looks and sounds a fair bit like Michael Ironside
You dropped the wheel out easily but didnt remove the footboards or bumpers or side rails.
So why do all the tire change vids show them pulling the whole Onewheel apart to get the wheel out?
Wiz Rom This is also possible, you just need to take the handle off. As mentioned by Jeff early in the video he says that he’s only done a few changes and there might be the odd unnecessary step or two.
@@eevees Thanks man! 🙂
Mcmaster Carr is where this thing came from
Instead of wire brushing the threads why not just boil the loctite off? Thats what I do with knife pivots
I feel like he's gonna get a copyright strike from playing twenty one piolots morph in the background
I was looking for someone who heard it too 🤣
Did he really just say the new bearings will last a couple thousand miles? 🤨 Ive talked to a guy who has ridden 20,000 and still has his original bearings.
grock89 20,000 miles, eh? Im afraid to say that you’re friend is lying. There’s no one with 20,000 miles on the leaderboard. And yes FM doesn’t use the same bearings in every board. They have been known to use really cheap ones that only last a few thousand miles.
@@eevees Sorry, it was 12000 miles, just checked. Still, an SKF bearing only lasting a "couple thousand miles" is absurd.
grock89 It’s not absurd and totally depends on the rider.
Also, Onewheel/FM has not been known to use SKF bearings
