Just did my very first bearing change thanks to this video (plus some pointers from other videos) and holy crap, what a difference upgraded bearings make.
What diameter size and length of pvc pipe did you use to avoid magnets from gravitating towards the press? Also, will a 35mm diameter piece of metal work for pressing the old bearings out of the hub or can one use between 35mm-55mm diameter metal object?
Such a brilliantly explained video, this will definitely help anyone looking to change their bearings or even do a tire swap. Excellent work Carve Creative.
Update I’m setting my board back to FM. thank you for responding. Mine was so loose that I can’t even feel a click at all. But I compared it to my pint and my pint felt normal So you said your GT feels like the pint. If so when I get it back from FM I will compare it to the pint again. 😄😄😄
Solid video!! Not a lot of bearing change videos out there.. I have a milled out XR hub on the way! Can’t wait to get back on a 6 inch hub! GTR time baby!
@@carvecreative Immediately after watching this video, I drove to a Home Depot a half hour away to buy the only one of that DeWalt screwdriver I could find 😂

Great video. Wish I had seen this before I started breaking down my GT. Do you know if there is a way to replace the stator motor cable? The small plastic tooth inside broke off and now the cable won’t reconnect. Have not heard anything back from FM yet and just trying to see if there are options outside of buying a whole new motor assembly.
That’s one way to do it. Removing the rail makes it easier to properly unplug/plug in the connectors. Many people ruined pint stators not plugging it in correctly. With the rail off you can make sure it’s right.
Varies with FM bearings. You only need one bad one in two sets and its dogshit early. Other times you can get daft miles on stock bearings. Like everything it's like a roulette table to a good board or not with FM always
@@redboyjan I remember on my XR after changing my bearings and breaking them in I had about 1 extra mile than my average. The stock ones weren’t bad either. I’m interested to see if it’s any better this time around.
Hey guys, could you let me know which bearings specifically you used in this video? My GT bearings are 'gritty' need to replace them before they cause issues...
@@carvecreative Thank you! I'm looking at a Klutch 2-ton Arbor press, I'll have to compare its dimensions with the wheel depth when I get a sec. Any drawback to using an H-Frame press instead?
@@FirstWeRide yeah an h frame press is a lot easier to make a mistake with. You can build up so much pressure with those. That’s what I started with and it was ok but I was told I was very lucky I didn’t damage any bearings because of the hydraulic cylinder. It’s so much easier with an arbor style press. Goes in smoothly every time!
@@carvecreative great video. It’s given me the confidence to tackle a bearing change myself. You linked a lot of stuff, some of which I’ve purchased already. I’d love to get that same arbor press but you didn’t provide a link for it. Any chance you have one?

@@carvecreativeyo b I just looked those up and they are 150$…. That’s a lot Can you tell me the name of the stainless precision bearings and the ceramic If the stainless last much longer that might be enough reason to get them
Of course when you try this on a old onewheel XR it does not really work, I can't get that engine plate of by rocking it at all. Cool vid still but most cases will be changing on old onewheel with all real problems you might encounter, not so realistic.
There’s some tricks to remedy that. You can get some bearing pullers to slowly get that cover off safely. If you do this be sure to be mindful of the PCB on the stator. You don’t want the clamps from the pullers to damage the PCB
This was sooooo helpful thank you!!! I messed up almost every piece of information you gave but still was able to get it replaced and running again
Glad we could help out!

Sure!!

Very concise straight forward video. No bullshit music, no theatrics. Great explanation . Wheres your shop?
We’re based out of WI. But the shop is no more… Maybe we’ll bring it back one day.
Great video, thank you. Were you going to link the tools you used?
Bro you got this down. Really good use of the PVC and your press.

hi, how did the locking ring on the motor plug feel? mine feels a Little lose but it still clicks in. I am trying to see if this is an issue
It wasn’t very loose for me. It was pretty standard and comparable to the pint motor plug

Hello. Thank you for the lovely info. Where can I buy that press and the tool you are using with it?
We have info in the video description. But Amazon is the go to
Nice vid....any word on where to get replacement o-rings or the size of the o-rings needs???
The float life has o ring kits
great video! Definitely keeping this bookmarked for the future bearing change.
Thanks for checking it out!
Can you explain why I’m dumb and didn’t get the hub side seated correctly? I need to machine down the seating ring now, any suggestions?
You need to be very careful when pressing them and make sure you’re even by applying pressure
I wouldn’t machine that down unless you’re absolutely positive it’s not even

3 ton.

Unfortunately those are proprietary parts. You would need to find someone selling a GT stator to splice in a new connector..
