I love the energy jeff and wren have with each other. Just two engineering students being nerdy stokesters. Just a different kind of wholesome that I didn't know I needed today.
28:42 I recently took my OW apart and I can feel the tension when putting the Strator back in. I held my breath and my heart stood still for the process and I fell back exactly like he did. Good to see I am not the only one with that fear.
Jeff you are such a Jedi master with your knowledge of all things -o- !!! Ever piece of wisdom shared in this video is gold! You saving onewheel lives out here baby! Haha much love brother!
Great content - this reaffirms that when its time for me to switch out the tire on my Pint, I'm going to pay someone to do the tire & the bearings! Happy New Year & Float On
Did my first bearing change not knowing anything. Installed my ftl ceramics using a towel, bucket, aluminum baseball bat, and a rubber mallet. Still riding my board with no problems.
Nice.. for seating and un seating check out 1/2" redi rod and washers + nuts.. leverage over brute force is easier .. glad your change worked though :)
Watched every second from here in Sweden at one in the morning! Conclusion: when my board needs new bearings I shall be sending it to Jeff if I am not prepared to invest in my own ten tonne press and that specialised bearing tool! 😂He is a master of the Onewheel in more ways than one! Respect🙏🏾
Wren killed it! (Not his board, the bearing change) It takes me like 20 minutes to swap out footpads even though I have to replace those wimpy things all the time
@@TheFloatLife Thanks for all the great content. Its great, it really is - but its also so painful to go through your videos because my GT still hasnt arrived yet... Anyways, keep up the great work!
I got my board right as I was laid off in 2020 so just doing a tire change on my own I was afraid of doing, that's why I took the trip down to the shop to have it done by someone that has the right tools and knowledge to do it.
Great video, haven’t seen any cracked magnets before but that’s a good tip. Glad to hear I’m not the only one who levels the axle blocks. I put mine on two blocks and get them snug while level before final torque’ing.
@@TheFloatLife the other thing people do differently is hub cover going on before or after the stator is back in place. You can also rotate and press the bearings in 3-4 locations to help ensure full seating.
@@SchuylerOrtega Yeah it's funny, I used to put the plate cover on first, but then I don't have a lot of room for my fingers when dropping it back in! Many ways to skin the cat for sure.
Great video. I feel it's worth mentioning to have a work area clear of any metal debris, filings etc as they can stick to magnets.. short things out. That and never put your hand on the rail, ( wren does this several times ) when you press you will potentially crush a finger, no joke a guy in shop lost a finger on a similar press.. sheared almost right off.. Teflon tape for threads, lasts longer than locktite, and disassembles easy too.. works for any bolt subject to vibration
honestly just mention that you guys made this video in a corridor crew video. because im sure tons of other people would watch for just wren alone, like i did haha
Changed about 3 sets of bearings with just a hammer and circular piece of steel on my board every 1500 miles. I now have about 7,000 miles and my board is still running strong💪
Amazing video! Can i ask someone somewhere about my one wheel? I have a yellow 17 problem at normal temp, and i live in Europe. What should i do? I am really worried. Is it my best option to send is back and wait for months?
This was really enjoyable to watch. Should pull in some other notable floaters and record some tune-ups. TFL PimpMyWheel or something ;) "People install these with hammers"... and I'll do it again! Just you wait! 10,000km I'll probably be swapping those stock bearings... with a hammer like I did with the Pint! >:D
Just a thought to the float life, do you want a 3d print to fill the inner channel of magnets so that the bearing can come out without contacting the wall of magnets? alternatively you can also cut heat and bend some of the floatplate material to make a protective ring/disk. Just a thought.
Eric was watching. All the way through 🤙 I was wondering how you do a ball replacement and now I know. Wren is a cool dude and I'm glad to see he keeps getting to upgrade his board to make it a beast of a ride!
My buddy runs the float life Canada and I was talking to him about different bearing changes, including bearing charges on EUCs. He was telling me that on some EUCs he puts the motor/wheel, or whatever it is in the freezer. So it shrinks and makes it easier to come out. Is that some you can do on a onewheel to make it easier to take out and potentially seat it when putting it back in? I didn't think to ask him that when I was visiting his shop haha
Welp, I'm never gonna do this, but I really enjoyed watching the process XD Just about Around 3700 miles on my board. I should think about a bearings change soon!
Hey, what’s that black thing you put on the bearings so it didn’t push on the middle and only the outside. Buying all the stuff for the repair and I don’t know what that is can anyone help?
I did my bearing change yesterday, had all the problems Jeff said that could happen. Except for the bearing seals. But I succesfully changed mine, went for a 14km ride, still holding up. 🤣🤣🤣
Wow I never would imagine it was that intense! I bought my xr from a guy who had a rotatable nickel valve stem put in and also had bearing seals installed to prevent stuff from getting in. How long do you think I could go before I have to change them? I got 578 miles on it 🤔
I kinda have to use this as a tutorial because the two closest shops are the MOB shop and One Stop Board Shop, I can't travel 100s - 1000s of miles for hundreds of dollars for a $99 dollar part. DIY it is!
650 miles on my XR. Only one fall. Hopped on my gf’s pint and scratched the shit out of it because it turned of 4 times while crossing a bridge. I was so uncomfortable I’m considering convincing her to get rid of it! It’s sketch as hell. I was legit scared of getting seriously hurt
Yup, some half an hour in a freezer will shrink them. Also the housing can be carefully warmed up with a heat gun or even a hair dryer (not really hot, just warm, as magnets and the adhesive they are held in with don't like heat). Really makes a difference, less wear on the bores and smaller chance of trouble.
@@TheFloatLife I put hard wood on the ends of the 2x4 so the press doesn't destroy the wood .. it works perfect.. I've thought about making a piece in aluminum too but the wood really works .. if you're doing it alot you might want aluminum.. and you could machine it to hold the bearing with an o-ring 😁
I hear everyone tell me that hard drops will shatter ceramics. But you think ceramics are still a solid bet? I don’t plan on doing anything crazy. But also don’t want shattered ball
When (if) I manage to get to the point where I'm interested in upgrading my board in such a manner... I know what video to watch. It's always scary the first time!
With electronics caution is always better to have than ignorance, brute force etc.. pretty sure we all have a bit of fear opening stuff up. :)
Yeahh I got my finger caught in between somehow got a nice little reminder. Good times. That thing is stronger than I thought!
I like how he intervened when pushing the plate of the bearing off. good man
Enjoyed every moment of this.
Every moment?

Nice job Guys!
Thanks for the shout out for Stoke life. Vibratite IS the best 😉
You bet!
I just did my own bearing change while watching along with you guys. Made it fun and got it right. Many thanks!

Yeah we used to keep bearings in the freezer for this purpose, but stopped doing it for whatever reason.
The hub is cast, cast metals get more brittle when cold.. bearings in freezer sure,, not the motor hub assembly though

Yeeeah… don’t think I’ll be changing bearings on my own :)
Probably a solid move
Which Vibra-tite threadlocker does Bob recommend?
Would it be overkill to change the bearings with every tire change?
Fuhk man I wish I had a press laying around somewhere lol. I got the ceramics a while back but was only able to get one bearing in out of the two : (
Make 3D print thin spacer to help keep stator go in smooth.
