There are many things to admire about Knopfler's guitar playing and I have enjoyed his music for a long time. One thing that really stands out for me through the decades is his mastering and commiting to never wasting a note. He fills in every possible gap with an amazing range of subtle tones and power and keeps the music with the other instruments a seamless and fluent creation of artistry. He truly is a musician's musician, always dedicated to the music and story telling and doesn't just strum or bash away aimlessly like so many players out there.
Could a Les Paul EVER sound better than this? In my youth, I thought Peter Green and Paul Kossoff were untouchable for tone, as they made their LP’s sing and cry, then Gary Moore in the 70’s came close (but not quite close enough). ….. then came Knopfler !! No other guitarist can make me cry with sheer emotion like Mark. Whether it’s the Pensa on Brothers In Arms or Telegraph Road, the Strat on Sultans, or the LP on this or Once Upon A Time - the guy just finds PERFECT tones and textures every time. There is no “best” guitarist ever, it’s too subjective a call - but for me the most MOVING player of all times, across all genres, is Mark Knopfler. Thank you Mark, for so many unbelievable experiences over the decades 👍🏼
Seventy years old...and still burning down the house... Most people at this age of life are living in sheltered accommodation..waiting for meals on wheels..and their own wheels are on a disability scooter... And the highlight of the week is taking the Mecca bingo by storm... Not rattling the rafters of the royal Albert hall... ..mr knopfler is without a doubt one of our best guitarists/lyricist...
If you listened to this concert in the dark, as soon as the first chords were played on the guitar, there could be no doubt as to which performer you were listening too.
He has mastered being just behind the rhythm, like Jerry Garcia, his approach is so educational.. y’all are right, two notes ya know it’s Mark. I wanted to see, him and Vassar get together….he’s a master.
I am 32 years old and I heard this song for the first time today during a two-hour drive with my dad who is 66 and a big fan of Mark and Dire Straits. I had such amazing goosebumps!
Mark is one of the greatest and this song is one of his greatest! I was flashed by it since i heard it the first time on sailing to philadelphia in 2000. And everytime i heard it live in about a dozend concerts. Thank you so much mark and thank you too danny cummings for your great drums
This song correlates with driving so well, particularly the closing solo and the whole idea of the perfect race. I know Mark has some experience as a driver and it really comes through on this song. Probably my favorite Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler piece - very powerful.
This is masterpiece this golden fingers can play Every guitar he is the best guitar player I love it to see playing thank you MK you had a greatest🎸🎸💜💜
Es gibt einfach keinen besseren. Jedes Konzert war von Anfang bis Ende einfach nur Gänsehaut. Man kann ihn nur vermissen. Ich will ihn noch einmal live erleben dürfen !!!!!
Knopfler has that ability in concert to do the slow burn, like a giant starship firing up, getting ready, then taking off, taking the whole stadium with him.
This ^^ I got a commercial for Mcarthur Glen retail park in Bridgend , the place is a fucking shithole and now I definitely never want to go there ever again 🤣
Mark como sempre único em suas apresentações. Um Show inesquecível ! Parabéns por tudo e por sua dedicação à música. Você é fantástico. Obrigada por nos presentear com bela música e apresentações. Bravoo!❤🎵🎶🎵🎤🎸🎸🎸🎹🎹🎻🥁🥁🎷🪕💯🎸🥰💝🙏🌺🌹⚘👏👏👏👏
Love this song, not crazy about all the extra live performers. I like the sparse atmosphere of the album cut. Driving rhythm section and loud guitars is all that’s needed.
👏🏼👏🏼. Absolutely with you on that one ! I thought the tone he got on the Emmylou tour was amazing! But this was even better. On a par with Telegraph Road at Seville, or Brothers at Mandela. This is just superb.
His self-accompaniment sensibilities are just uncanny. He has much the cohesion of Jeff Beck. Jeff, just on guitar. Mark, combining his voice with the guitar/volume pedal. Genius.
Great lyrics but then the last half of the song is an instrumental that never seems to stop building. How do you even write/arrange a song like this? How involved in the arrangement was Mark? I just noticed the bass player is strumming chords.

Hey - I’m Mark’s age and I’m certainly not in an old folks home. 70 is the new 50, mate.
@@kittler53 Me too! I'm 72, swimming and riding the road bike and working a full day (writer).
I want this man to live forever.
I want too 👍
Para mí un IDOLO.

Amazing❤
Your mad ur da
That’s a true sign of a genius and a great artist ….. originality, craftsmanship, design and composition
The solo alone is worth the price of admission to this performance of a lifetime ✨
Согласен!
Точно!!! У меня в машине постоянно звучит!!!
No live version will ever be identical to another but "Speedway at Nazareth" live with the help of Emmylou Harris is by far Knopfler best rendition.

Heard and seen this track many times, this has to be one of, if not the best, version yet.
Liked this one more although I guess it's edited/cleaner - ua-cam.com/video/vs91er7AZmg/v-deo.html

na denn ma hinterher! Wirst ihn finden! 🤩
Well done sir, thank you for all the amazing years of gorgeous music.
Knopfler has that ability in concert to do the slow burn, like a giant starship firing up, getting ready, then taking off, taking the whole stadium with him.
The pinnacle of human artistic talent thus far.
Clapton and Knopfler i would say are Up there
Whomever shoved a commercial right in the middle of this amazing performance out to have their ass kicked.
This ^^
I got a commercial for Mcarthur Glen retail park in Bridgend , the place is a fucking shithole and now I definitely never want to go there ever again 🤣
I’d help
Mistakes along life are no more than warnings to correct steps....Life always worthwhile, just don't give up. Nice song... amazing version..❤ 🌹

Hardly anyone as gifted as him...talent oozing from all over!
Le plaisir de l'entendre et de l'écouter...sans se lasser un seul instant, Merci Maitre..
I love the peak in viewers around 5:20, because that is an absolute masterclass from Mark.. incredible.
I saw them do this song live a few years ago, second row. It was absolutely intense. Maybe the best show I've ever seen. The band was so tight.
Love this song, not crazy about all the extra live performers. I like the sparse atmosphere of the album cut. Driving rhythm section and loud guitars is all that’s needed.
Saw this concert in Birmingham - awesome and what a guitarist.
Very powerful song !!!
I love that version and the one with Emmylou Harris back in 2006 live...
👏🏼👏🏼. Absolutely with you on that one !

On a par with Telegraph Road at Seville, or Brothers at Mandela. This is just superb.
He's great with the Strat, but when he picks up the Les Paul, you know you in for something a bit special.
Or the Pensa (sp) he plays on Telegraph Road. He’s a master at all guitars.
This just ace playing mark great song to listen to everyday one of many jenny🦜♥️
SO beautiful!
Love you Mark, and all who love you xox

La guitarra absolutamente entregada llevada a límites imposibles. ¡Sublime!
warning: you better don't drive when listening to that les paul sound in your car.
❤🎶Absolutely wonderful.
Cette chanson est magnifique !
Chyba najlepsza wersja tego utworu. Normalnie gęsia skórka wszędzie.

Am I the only one who can't help but hear "Ghost Riders in the Sky" (The Highwaymen) buried in this song? I think it'd make a tremendous mashup...!

Be great if Ian Thomas did the decent thing and handed the sticks to DC on this one. Danny is the man!!!
yeah...this song was built for Danny.
(:|> magnific!

Great rendition. But the horns ruin it. He has too many instruments playing there.
Paralyzing...
