  • Everything you need to know about the new Medistrom Lite CPAP battery systems! CPAP batteries are used when you don't have access to a standard AC power socket. When using a cpap battery it's important that you switch off your humidifier and heated tube if you are using one as these components will drain the battery faster. Most people average between 10-16 hours of cpap use from a fully charged battery. The CPAP Batteries can also be charged from a DC socket like those found in your car, caravan or truck. If you have any questions please ask them in the comment section of the video. Thank you :-)

Great info, I been looking for a battery for my machine and now I found it. Who would've thought that I got the info all the way from Australia when I live in the US. Well thanks again for the info and now I know that if I ever need to buy something for my machine when I'm traveling in Australia I have a place call for help.

It's an incredible place and i'm sure you would love it. Have a great day and good luck with the pilot lites. They're great batteries. Cheers

What is much simpler is to go with a solar power station (and additional batteries if available). Mine has 5KwH storage and, in the event of a power outage, it powers my CPAP, my portable O2 concentrator, my refrigerator a, some fans and lights.

This maybe a better choice to get instead of the dreamstation go battery, because you could link up this with dreamstatation go and humidifier at home

For using just around the home, a UPS battery back-up is a fraction of the price. So other than compact size, is there an advantage the Pilot-24 would have over a standard UPS battery back-up (like those used with a desktop computer)?
Also, how long will it last if using the humidifier (Resmed Air sense 10)?

Nice video, although for stateside folks we have something similar called Freedom Batteries which are very similar, faults and all. For example, you didn't mention it but I assume it is as true for Medistrom as it is for Freedom batteries, supposedly one CANNOT use the car charger in an Caravan 12v outlet unless the engine is running. I'm not sure why this is, but allegedly it has to do with lower voltage. Instead, the solution is Caravan 12v outlet -> 12v to 120v inverter -> 120v to 12v battery power supply -> Freedom Lithium battery backup -> (if 24v CPAP:) 12v to 24v DC-DC converter -> CPAP machine! Whew! So inefficient!
I have been told that one can use the 12v to 24v DC-DC converter directly from the Caravan 12v battery, but then there is no backup if the caravan battery goes dead, so no use for the Lithium battery pack as a backup power supply.
And I was warned never to be tempted to connect the 12v Caravan battery direct to the 12v input on the Lithium (Freedom/Medistrom?), which would be the simplest and most elegant solution.
Is there no such thing as simplicity and industry standards in any medical devices? And we complain of high cost of health care. Bah.
ON the plus side, I did make some money investing in Resmed (sold it).
Would love to have your suggestions for a robust but simple way to use two CPAP machines in a caravan OFF THE GRID. Certainly there are more than two people that RV/Caravan and use CPAP off the grid.

Hi Nick...I intend to purchase a battery back-up for my CPAP. My question is: is there such a thing as a UPS (uninterrupted power supply) battery back-up for CPAP units (i.e. upon power failure my CPAP would continue working without any interuption). Cheers!

For a 50 watt solar panel, that is very expensive. You can buy a 100W flexible solar panel for half that. It's flexible, not foldable though so it wouldn't be easy to hike with. You'd need a foldable one. Last I checked, even those were cheaper for twice the power. Does that solar panel have a BMS built in or does the battery have that? Is there anything wrong with adapting any solar panel to that connector? Of course, you would need the corresponding charging voltage for a 12v or 24v battery. I'm a solar enthusiast so I know this stuff pretty well.

    • @CPAPReviews

Yeah i'm sure you could probably just buy a cheaper version that would still work fine :-). Everything to do with cpap is expensive

I have an airmini and a medstrom 24v pilot lite. I tried connecting the airmini power brick to the battery and then the battery to the airmini as nick suggested - this does not work for me. After using the airmini over night, the battery is completely drained and the airmini has stopped despite having the airmini power brick connected. It appears the airmini charger is blocked by the battery from powering the airmini. If I use my airsense 10 power brick in place of the airmini power brick, it works.

    • @CPAPReviews
      @CPAPReviews  2 роки тому

Hi Ken, you don't want to connect the 'power brick' to the battery/ That's not how they are designed to work. The Pilot 24 lite is already at 24v. The brick is designed to take the 110-240v AC current and turn it into 24v DC. It will not work running 24V DC straight into it. To use the Pilot 24V lite which is the correct battery you just need a straight DC cable with the correct plug. There's no conversion required. I hope this helps. Cheers

Hey! I have a ResMes Aircurve 10, will this work with that and if so do I need to buy extra cable packs? Also, can I just leave this plugged into the outlet all the time as a precaution if the power goes out or will keeping it plugged in ruin the battery? Thanks, Damon

    • @derekd4221

it should work because its 24volt. no extra cables. i have an aircurve 10 as well and its bipap. I am guessing bipap may use more energy, but its very hard to find any informtation. i also use humidifier so it wont work long with a humidifier, they7 say you have to shut it off to get 8 hours.

Nick…I’m looking for a battery for my air mini that I can charge using my PedalCell on my bike while I’m bike touring here in the US. The PedalCell has a 5v/2.4a output that can charge my 30ah power bank….so looking for a CPAP battery that can do the same thing. Most nights I’ll be camping out in hike/bike sites in state parks which may not have a land power plug available near my tent site. I do have a trailer I can tow with my bike but not sure what solar panel to get that could be strapped over my 30”x17” trailer…..if no options for usb c input charge ports.

I have the Anker PowerHouse II 800. Mostly for a few nights of camping off grid. Plenty of power but not good for a UPS.
I need something that I can keep plugged into the wall and my ResMed plugged into it and it will keep my CPAP powered without accessing the battery on a daily basis thereby draining the overall life of the battery. The Medstrom is a good option barring the low capacity / high price.
Also, I DO NOT want to sacrifice the heated tubing nor the humidifier in the process. I want a true UPS with enough capacity for a full night (~350 wH), but not much more than $1/wH.
    Any ideas?
