The auto cpap machine used in this tutorial video is the BMC Luna G3 Auto - cpap.review/lunag3
If your cpap pressure is too high your apnea and snoring will be well controlled but you might experience more side effects like dry mouth, mask leaks and general discomfort. If your cpap pressure levels are too low then your apnea and snoring will not be well controlled and you might wake up feeling unrefreshed! We want to our CPAP pressure to be JUST RIGHT!

We want our therapy levels to be as low as possible whilst still maintaining a healthy night sleep free from sleep apnea and snoring with a healthy AHI (apnea hypopnea index).
Most CPAP & AUTO CPAP machines have the ability to display your sleep therapy data directly on the machine screen or on a smart phone app and with just a few data variables we can very easily fine tune our therapy control from the comfort of our own home without the need for costly clinic visits, test and therapy reports!
Even if you don't have any pressure statistics from your device, as long as you have access to your AHI (apnea hypopnea index) which all machines should have then you can easily fine tune your device just with a little trial and error.
As a rule of thumb... As long as your AHI is below 5, you can continue reducing your CPAP pressure levels. If you're on a fixed pressure machine, reduce your prescribed pressure by .5 or 1 per night and. If you're using an AUTO CPAP, drop your max apap level ( the maximum pressure level your machine can provide) by .5 or 1 per night.
Our aim is always to try and get our pressure levels to the lowest they can possibly be whilst still maintaining a healthy AHI of less than 5. If you spend a little time fine tuning and optimising your therapy then it will go a long way to you achieving a healthy and COMFORTABLE sleep!
I hope you enjoy the video.
Look out for one another.
Nick

Thanks for your kindness of sharing this information. I just registered with sleephq and soon to will upload my data. 🙏
Does not work if you brought machine from overseas unfortunately
I need some help but I have an older machine a REMstar auto m series. I'm trying to adjust the pressure and I want it to start low then go up.
I have this exact machine. Any idea if it or when sleephq will compatible anytime soon?
Hi Nick, I'm my mom's caregiver and it's our first time with CPAP therapy. She's got the resvent iBreeze. Would you mind please telling me how to access the clinical menu to adjust her pressure? Hers starts at 3 and goes to 20, and she feels like she's asphyxiating when it's both below 4.5 and when it's above 9.5. Her tummy keeps filling with air, her ears feel like they're about to pop, and the high pressure is just terribly uncomfortable. Her AHI is currently 21.8. I really would love to help her. Can you please help me help her? Btw, I absolutely love your videos!
4 days in to Cpap therapy. My doc had me at 16 to start. It’s been really hard to adjust. My mask is good, and I’m wearing a brace to stop my chin tucking in. I’m so tired, and I can’t face another night being woken up by the difficulty exhaling. My stomach is bloated when I wake up and it’s so uncomfortable. I just changed the settings to 10. Thanks for this video. I’m taking this into my own hands and just hearing you say to experiment is all I needed. Thanks.
I had an almost identical experience! My max pressure was at 14 from the doctor. As a result I barely used it for years. I didnt realize that I could change it and greatly improve the effectiveness. My AHI averaged at 9.5. I set my max pressure to 10 last week and now wear it most of the evening. Finally feeling rested in Nebraska!
Having an identical experience!
Same here!!!!!
Me too
All of you need to stop your bullshit.
Stop being babies and actually try to acclimate to your situation.
I have been a dme tech for over 11 years and can tell you with the utmost certainty that you aren't doing anything good for yourself.
If you understand the word therapy you should also be able to understand that your titration was set at that level because that is what was ACTUALLY WORKING OVER A CERTAIN PERIOD OF TIME.
You can of course go ahead and ignore my warning and do what you want but you'll suffer the inevitable consequences, not me.
Switch your settings back to what was prescribed and stop thinking that therapy is something that provides effective effective results after only a few days, or be a wannabe doctor who is also a nuclear physicist and whatever you think you are.
But seriously ffs stop thinking you know better than a doctor.
Excellent video!!!! I have been waking up with dry eyes and feeling like I had been in a fist fight! My neck and chest muscles were so sore!! I have lowered my pressure and kept my AHI under 5. My doctor said I shouldn't adjust my own pressure since here in the U.S it is a prescription. I told him too bad. He can kiss 💋 my a**. Feeling better already. 😁😁😁😉
Oh geez I just found this and changed mine to 8. I think together insurance to pay for it (I think it takes 90 days) maybe I should put it back. I feel like I’m smothering when I’m trying to fall asleep.
😂😂😂😂❤
So I followed this advice and last night, my AHI was the lowest it has ever been. Can’t thank you enough.
Hi Kenny , Great to hear it brother
@@CPAPReviews can I use one of these machines without a sleep study?
I had an almost identical experience! My max pressure was at 14 from the doctor. As a result I barely used it for years due to too high of pressure, bloating, etc. I didnt realize that I could change it and greatly improve the effectiveness. My AHI averaged at 9.5. I set my max pressure to 10 last week and now wear it most of the evening. Finally feeling rested in Nebraska!
9.5 holy ####. That is wild. The problem first time when you get the machine " set up " by a person. First you are not used to pressure like that. I remember when me and a person set it up. Felt like i could not catch my breath. I am very trained, powerlifter. But even for me it was very strange feeling. On my 4th year now and now i begin to mix and trix with the machine. Wish and new stuff earlier.
Nick, thanks for the information you present in this channel. I ran across your channel when researching the loss of connectivity of my many years old AirSense 10. Turns out it was a 3G modem and they recently just turned off 3G in my portion of the US. However, the info that you provide is second to none, I've been on CPAP/APAP since Feb of 96 (yep that's 26 years). I've learned more from your video's in an hour than all that I've been taught over the years from the medical and or DME suppliers. Keep up the good work. Once again Thank you for the explanations.
Wow I've been on a cpap for years and this is 1st time learn and understanding what is actually going on. Thank you
Wonderful information! Such a thorough explanation. This is the best CPAP channel on UA-cam!!
I never thought I would ever get my head around all the facts and figures, but at 71 , since subscribing to your UA-cam I am amazed at how much i am picking up, your job is not on the line by a long shot Nick , but I am mentally more comfortable and now am experiementing with my pressures, for that I thank you. Neil
Thanks Neil! I agree, it does all seem a bit overwhelming at first but once you start to learn about how the machine works and what the numbers mean then it is very beneficial. Glad to hear you're doing well. Cheers
Nick
I am totally lost and defeated already after only two nights of using my cpap. I don't understand anything about it (and I'm not stupid) I can tell that the pressure is too high but I'm so afraid to mess with it. I'm so tired and my health is suffering terribly from my sleep apnea. 😪
Thank you so much! My pressure was set so high to the point my machine was starting to not be effective. My AHI was fairly low so I set a range instead of fixed and already I'm feeling the difference!
This video saved my life. I had terrible vertigo from pressure in my ears until I turned down the CPap. I lost a lot of weight when I started and did not realise it lowered the pressure I needed. My AHI was 116 (yes over 100) before CPap but was going to give up . Thank you
Super duper helpful. This is THE best video on CPAP adjustments. I just couldn't sleep with the darn thing, and now that I have adjusted it I can....and my body really needed it. Thank you!!
62 years old, had untreated sleep apnea for 15+ years and in complete denial. My advice to anyone, if you are told you have it, do something about it, or like me you may end up with Diabetes, a stiffening of the right side of the heart and moisture build up in the left lung due to the heart working harder to force oxygen in and CO2 out...Only been on CPAP 6 weeks and truthfully I've been struggling with it... Masks, pressure, leakage and dry mouth everything you've mentioned.. found all your videos very informative and very helpful. Being in the 🇬🇧 and under the NHS we don't have the access to the data and settings that you have.. It takes sooooooo long to speak to a clinician to ask about fine tuning and often you've got what you've got and get on with it..
I was started at 8cm, but despite a 0.1AHI, I was having poor sleep quality as well as a lot of abdominal bloating in the morning. After a month of not being able to reach my sleep specialist, I took matters into my own hands and lowered it by 1cm after reading up on my side effects. Best decision I ever made.
Hi there, thanks for sharing your experience! This is exactly what I want to hear and I'm very happy for you. Well done. Nick
How do you do it yourself? My machine makes it impossible to switch anything unless the doctor does it... unless there is a way around that...
My position have my CPAP set up where I can't change my settings
@@thankyou62 hope you figured this out if not you need to look up the provider menu. Getting to that menu is different for each machine. This channel usually shows for the most common machines how to do it and what each setting does.
@@CPAPReviews I tried ResMed auto with humidifier a couple years ago and felt like I was on a ventilator. UN-natural breathing even getting to sleep was almost impossible and if I did go to sleep I never made it over 2-3 hours. I think mine was set 5-15? If that was a 5 going to sleep it was a lot of pressure that was far from natural. Caused a lot of anxiety. Three different mask. In a month I returned it and tried to get some sleep. Any suggestions if I try again? This was at the beginning of Covid and had very little close contact help.
Good stuff again. Great info. Wish more people watched your channel, given how much of an undiagnosed problem this is in society.
Much appreciated! Glad you enjoyed it :-). There's about 150,000 people a month who watch them so slowly getting the word out but yes it's very much an undiagnosed problem! Thank you
This is the best video instruction I could find after endless searching for ways to reduce the pressure and modulate minimum and maximum pressure according to personal needs. The feature instructing users how to 'get in' to the clinical menu and how best to modulate the pressure was invaluable! Thank you -
I have learned so much from your tutorials much more than the brochures or the sleep app clinic!!!!!!
I am grateful for all your information still working on the humidity to have terrible allergies and the mouth has been too dry so I’ve been increasing humidity but don’t want to much humidity for the lungs!!!:(
Ok, I found your tutorial on the AirSense 10 part 3 of 3 which showed how to get access to the clinical menu. Now I'm good to go. Appreciate you man! You are the best!!! I haven't used my machine for many months because I couldn't get through to the doc that the pressure he had it set for made it blow out my mouth. He even wanted it set higher so I put it in airplane mode so they couldn't turn it up more. Of course that didn't help because it was already to high. I finally just gave up because I wasn't aware I could set it myself. I found that I was getting better sleep without using it. My wife decided today to do a search and found one of your videos. Now I can start using it again. I'd like to find the video on how to remove the modem. I don't want to risk airplane mode accidently getting turned off.
I subscribed and now am going to join.
I don't know how to put into words how much I appreciate what you have done for those of us who desperately need this info. Thanks again from the bottom of my heart!
YOU ARE A REAL HERO!!!
Thank you so much for this video. You have explained more to me than my Doctor did! For ages I was struggling with the cpap machine but now that I have figured it out thanks to you, I have adjusted the pressure and it is so much more comfortable to use, thank you so much

Nick, I cannot thank you enough for explaining my CPAP machine and my sleep apnoea so well in simple layman language which is all that I can understand.
Most welcome mate, glad you enjoyed it :-) Have a great day. Nick
Hi Nick, first thank you for all the work you and your team (there is most always a team) that goes into the videos you have provided! I was able to find (not hard at all) your video on my machine and now I can control the setting. Thank you again!!
Hi Chris, you're very welcome. No team here mate, only me although i do have a couple of kids who have helped in some vids
Thank you so much Nick! I just got a new DreamStation 2 And I just learned all the tricks and hints for setting my pressure myself! My equipment provider can set pressure remotely so I hope they didn’t lock me out! I’ll let you know! I’ve been using a CPAP for 15 years and I’ve learned more in this one video than in the 15 prior years!
Glad to hear it legend. Thanks for the kind words. Nick :)
Okay I know it’s only been one night but what a difference!!!! I’m so happy that I came across this video. I reset my numbers last night and got 0 leaks. I slept great and my nose is not dry. I couldn’t figure out what was causing the excessive dryness but after watching this I believe it was the high pressure and the leakage it caused. Thank you so much this video has been life changing. Not to be dramatic or anything. 😀
Hi Jen, that's great to hear. Best wishes for the future. Nick
What are the changing you do???
I just changed mine to 8. I feel like I’m smothering. We shall see.

@@preetimittal21236-16. I kept the 16 but changed it to 8 last night. I slept so much better but am hesitant to say I feel better this morning. What are your thoughts?
Thank so much for this video. My therapy was fine at one time and all of the sudden my AHI started going higher and higher. I defiantly will try raising my IPAP.
Thank you Nick! I'm going to check out and see if I can improve the settings, thanks for sharing this! God bless! AL from CT
Great work mate, let me know how you go ;-). Cheers. Nick
I have to say, Nick, this is EXACTLY what I came online today to see! I keep waking with dry mouth, and my wisdom teeth actually hurt at some points in the night! I can feel my mouth blow open, so annoying. Thanks for all your help!
Same
I’m so glad to have found this video! This is my machine and I feel my pressure was too high. I had dry eyes, mouth, throat… I woke up feeling like my torso had been beaten and had excess air/gas in my stomach. I have begun the process of adjusting down and will try it tonight. Fingers crossed!
Glad it was helpful!
This is EXACTLY what I needed to learn. Thanks so much!!!
Hi Nick, thanks to your reviews I’ve managed to get a Resmed S10 over here in the UK, the 11 is still in the ethers for the NHS. I will be monitored for the first year and now I will be able to see exactly what’s going on at last re apnea’s and mask leaks, hooray 😃 hopefully I will be able to get more than 3 hours sleep in one go. Thanks again Nick, blessings to you. ❤️🤗
Very interesting... thanks Nick. I learn more from you than I do my doctor! Great day!
Hi David, thanks for the great feedback mate. Means a lot. Cheers
Thank you so much for the videos! I'm on day 4 and I can gladly say that your channel is making it a lot easier for me. Didn't get a full night of sleep yet with the mask on but I'm getting there!
Hi Yassine, you're welcome. It can take a bit of time to get a full night but you will get use to it soon. Keep it up :-)
Thank you very much for your videos. You have helped me immensely. I have an airsense 11. I just started doing cpap sleep therapy a week ago. It's been a very strange start for me because my sleep therapist tested me for sleep apnea, then after I tested positive he gave me the machine and configured it. The first night I was doing great. After we spoke on the phone he told me that based on my results he would adjust the settings to try and optimize them for me. The next night I woke up in the middle of the night with really bad aerophagia. I called my provider but my sleep technologist had promptly left the company. I decided to do some research and found your videos and many others. I went for it and started making changes myself and things improved immensely. Meanwhile my provider passed me on to another technician but by the time she called me I had already started changing all the settings myself as per your videos and things have gotten a lot better since that crazy second night. I believe he lowered my pressures a little too much so for myself when the maximum pressure is too low I get bad aerophagia.
Thanks for taking the time to do this nick
You're welcome brother. Hope it helped. Nicko
Great video. So much to think about especially for newbies.
Hi Jeff, yeah it can be a little too much info for newbies so don't get to bogged down in the detail in the beginning. Plenty of time to learn the more advance stuff over time. Cheers brother. Nick
Thank you, Nick. This video is so helpful. My max was set so high that it was practically making me jump out of bed. Am systematically adjusting the max now and using the data on the resmed app that keeps track of everything the machine is doing to monitor the AHIs. So helpful and not something I'd have learned via the providers.
Hi Fiona, this is the sort of comment that makes my day! Thank you and best wishes. Nicko
Thanks so much for the informative videos!
I'm new to using C-Pap and I appreciate the information that you provide!😊✌
Thank you! Fantastic helpful information.
I’m watching this video again, taking notes this time! I know they say your body needs to ‘adjust’ to it but why do I feel way way waaaaay worse. Instead of feeling fresh as daisy like I expected, instead I get headaches that lasts all day long, light headedness, nausea, painful boating and super dry coughing fits. I DRED going to sleep. I actually woke up during one of of those super high pressure times and it felt like my head was being squeezed like it was going to pop off. This is the most informative video I’ve run across. Thanks for the through job! So excited to do my own adjustments
If you have a ResMed or Philips cpap you can join me on at community.sleephq.com . That's where the pros hang out (including myself)
Thank you for emphasising comfort! I’m new to CPAP and have found that what I can sleep with comfortably (and with apnoea controlled) is quite different to what the specialist recommended. Thank you for reassuring me that this is something I can work out myself.
Hi Nicki sounds like you're on the right track to me! Best wishes. Nick
Mate, this is the best advice I have been given. I am on a trial and did not get any of this information. The machine was set on max pressure, I had air pouring out of the mask and I spent half the night trying to adjust the fitting of the mask. Thanks a million. Regards Kym
Excellent video. You always have good information. Thanks for the effort you put into these videos.
Very awesome information, thanks to this info I'm using my pressure at 8 and it feels way comfortable compared to when i had it at 14. At 14 the AHI was at 0.8 now at 8 is at 2.7 and so is less than 5. Thank you very much god bless you sir
how much was your AHI to begin with?

Thanks, Nick. Good presentation, easy to follow. My first time with the Airsense and the pressure was too much. Using your "hack" to the secret clinical menu, I was able to adjust the pressure. Going for my first "ride" tonight. Wish me luck!
Thank you so much for this video! Very informative! I have the machine in the video and just made the changes you recommended. Looking forward to trying them out tonight.

New DreamStation 2 Review Video Out Now! - ua-cam.com/video/2pfZWBan3ho/v-deo.html
Your friend that does a 3 part series recommended you. Great information. You guys are very good at give us this information. Any suggestions on a flex vs c flex? My therapist way back in 2005 recommended c flex but this was back when I had a CPAP instead of APAP.
Awesome! Thank you. A-Flex and C-Flex are Philips pressure relief settings. They are very similar but A-Flex reduces the pressure at the end of inhalation and C-Flex reduces the pressure at the start of exhalation. Just try them both out to see which one you like the most but they're very similar. Cheers
Hey Nick I have a Luna 2 Auto Cpap. How do I access the clinical menu. Thanks
Great video, using this strategy would be great as opposed to having to do the dreaded sleep study.
Hi Garrett, absolutely NO NEED TO DO A SLEEP TEST to work out your pressure. In fact I don't think there's really ever a need for a sleep test. Cheers mate. Nick
@@CPAPReviews Except that the sleep study costs a thousand US dollars!
So it's great for the doctor's cash flow.
Start on Wednesday. Learning so much-thanks and best wishes.
Hi John, glad to help mate. Let me know if you need any assistance when you get started. Cheers and good luck!
I just watched this and understand more of the basics. Thanks.
Thanks for what you do and very helpful information. Been struggling with Resmed 10 CPAP for a year and half with these various symptoms. No doctor has provided such thorough instructions such as you. I dialed down my max pressure last night to 6. Prefer using nasal pillows because I can't tolerate anything on my face. Even so, they're still irritating despite my current one month usage AHI being 1.4, total AI 1.0. I have leak 29L/min without chin strap since removing chinstrap and trying to train myself to keep mouth closed when sleeping because I notice hair loss which I read is another effect of these straps. You mentioned lowering air pressure which can minimize leaks so will try dial it down to 5 next. Tried using a CPAP cap with chin strap which thins hair just as bad. Going to try the Resmed Bella nasal pillows which can be used either as a ear loops or head strap. Hopefully it would solve the hair loss issue. Any suggestions?
Hey, have you ever tried mouth strips instead of the chin straps? - ua-cam.com/video/GQQsFuPYk6Y/v-deo.html. They're getting pretty popular now and a lot of people prefer them over the chin straps. Also regarding the hair loss, you might look at getting some thick mask headgear covers. You can find them on amazon etc. Or you could also perhaps look at wearing some sort of hair net / cover before putting your mask over the top. I'll have to do a bit more investigating. What model mask do you currently use? IE ResMed P10? I know some people use this mask that has no headgear called the Bleep DreamPort Sleep Solution. Maybe check that out. Cheers
Thanks for explaining that. I wasn't sure how to configure my machine for better sleep.
Very welcome. Glad it was helpful. Nick
Wow man. Thanks for the video. I'm gonna try this instead of quitting
Great work buddy, hope it makes a difference. Cheers
I have watched a couple of your videos. I’ve got the Rez 10 my brother also has it. I just finished my 21st night three weeks anyway it is help me a lot and I have severe apnea 64 years old bad heart and bad back. This machine has really improved the quality of my life. I have more energy, your videos have been great guide and very helpful. God bless and thank you.
Helpful. One of the difficulties of CPAP is the exhale. Once i discovered EPR, set it to 3, I could exhale properly, adjusting the positive inhale pressure becomes easier. I created my own hypoxia by having pressure too low, which created 'events', which drove the AHI number up. Once I bumped the number up to closer to 10, things started to improve.
Ill just say this-no doubt you can pay $1000+ to have a titration study to determine the correct pressure, humidity, temperature, etc. Do it if you can afford it. Probably the best solution, so im told. If not, this is a helpful guide to get setup. My opinion is getting control of the exhale is vital because without that, the mask will come off quick.
Thanks for sharing your insight Fred. Respectfully disagree regarding the 'pressure titration study'. Big waste of time and money and can easily be done in your own home either using your machine data or even just with trial and error. All the best mate. Nick

Amazing! My machine was set on min=4, max=20 from the beginning. My supplier insisted that it had been adjusted specially for me. I struggled with mask leaks and noise. When I found your channel I opened the therapy menu and discovered that ALL of the adjustments were set on the default values. The supplier had never set anything.
Reduced the Max from 20 to 13 and the problem is solved!!!!
AHI is now .7. Yes, seven tenths!
Thank you so much.
Did you increase your min at all, or is it still set at 4?
@@Michael-vh1wc I experimented with changing the minimum, but it doesn't seem to make much difference. It's on 8 or 9 now. I like to start with a pressure that I can actually feel..... On my Resmed 11 I can barely tell if the machine is running at a min of 4.
When I started with CPAP 10 years ago, I used a gradual ramp but I don't find I need ramp at all now.
Great to hear it brother. Congrats
So cool you can help people optimize their therapy! Doctors don’t have the time to do this for you.
Thanks Steve, appreciate that brother ;-)
I have just concluded my installation on a 5 ton Trane. After looking at several videos I focused on yours Jim as your recap of wiring layout was very clear. Also, your control box layout looked just like mine. I have done 2 starts so far and went from 75 or so amps without MicroAir down to 44 on the first start then to 33 on the second start. So far so good. I will update after 5 starts.
I have been using cpap for 10 years without controlling mask leaks. Now I know how. Thanks

Hey Nick! Great video! I have finally bought my Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset. It's a beautiful machine. Very clever and it's silent. I was on fixed pressure of 9 with a Ramp set to 5. My apneas went down from around 11.7/15 per hour to between 2/5.5. When the sleep therapist set the machine to AUTO and has it set to Auto Ramp (it shows up 4) and the auto settings are at between 4 -12 I got the following readings: (Events per hour) 27/1 - 5.1 Ev, 28/1 -7.0 Ev, 29/1 - 8.2 Ev, 30/1 - 3.4 Ev. I woke up during the night/morning of the 29th and saw the machine was at 12 psi. This was after around 4/5 hours of sleep (I sleep late...) I feel it's good that the Auto setting can come on and take over when I need it. The sleep therapist told me to wait 2 weeks. What's the best way to get the Apnea events as low as possible? To increase the lower level from 4 to around 8.5? Keep the ramp at 4? or 5? I know how to get into the clinical menu but I feel the therapist will have a fit if I go there! I am still feeling moody and lethargic and sleepy with no get-up and go in the mornings.... like I am coming out of anesthesia! I appreciate that you are a busy guy, however, any hints and tips that you may share with me would be great! Thank you, Nick.
Hey Michael, thanks for your comment. Normally you do get better AHI results with a fixed pressure machine however your AHI levels seem pretty good on Auto also but if you wanted to improve them even more then yes i would try experimenting with your lower level and bring it up a bit from 4. Probably try 7 to start and then you can increase a bit more if required but just see what feels comfortable.
Regarding how you feel when you first wake up in the morning. This actually has nothing to do with how good a sleep you had but more so what STAGE OF SLEEP you were in when you first wake up in the morning. It's like the lottery haha. So if you wake up just after slow wave sleep or RemSleep then you feel like your hungover and it takes like a good 30 min to feel alert but if you wake up just after stage 1 or 2 sleep then you will feel like you can just jump out of bed. I recommend you check out this cool app apps.apple.com/au/app/sleep-cycle-sleep-tracker/id320606217 which helps to solve this issue and get's pretty good reviews. I love it.
It can also take a few months of therapy before people really start to notice improvements in how they feel during the day but judge it in the afternoon not when you first wake. That being said, even if you don't feel a lot different, the proof is in the numbers which are showing a big improvement in the quality of your sleep breathing. Have a good one mate. Nick
@@CPAPReviews hi Nick! Thank you heaps for the reply and information. It will be very helpful! I will take note of what you said and apply it. It is a bit like a lottery! Haa. I will ask the therapist to look into the settings when I see her next week.
I'm new to the CPAP world and I have to say it is not as bad as I had been led to believe. One simple trick which has worked for me is to ensure my top lip is clean shaven before I go to bed and to put a small amount of moisturiser on, as I use a nose pillow. The result is a relatively leak free nights sleep. Simple but effective.
Thanks for sharing your experience Paul. All the best brother. Nicko
Your videos are extremely helpful. I am so grateful!!
Hi Laura, glad you like them
Great video, Nick! Very helpful.
Cheers legend
Thank you this helped a lot. One problem I have is when the cpap starts every night the pressure is strong despite being at the lowest level (4). Also I find myself waking up at night having to turn the machine off and on again because the pressures too strong. I’ve followed your tips for the working out the maximum pressure.
Hey mate, unfortunately 4 is the lowest but keep at it and soon it won't feel so strong as your breathing will get use to the pressure. Cheers
@@CPAPReviews thanks mate. I realised what it was. Its the side compartment not fully being connected until it clicks which was causing the machine to blare out excessive air.
I am really enjoying your videos! I have learned so much!! I have a Philips Dreamstation, how do I access the clinical menu? My doctor has turned that off.
Hi Diana, thanks for the kind words! Great to hear. Here's a link for you :-) ua-cam.com/video/0BhrJPDq_5s/v-deo.html . Let me know If you get stuck. Nick
Your videos are very helpful, thank you!
Thank you so much!!! Excellent video!!💕
Thanks Nick! Just bumped up my power level. What scares me is I started on power 7 and still had a bunch of events all the way to power 13. I know 20 is the end. Even when I have .4 events per hour I can feel it in my jaw and wrecked. Sleep Study is huge in America, it's big business here. Lifetime patients. My ahi is 1.2. Just checked it. My sleep doctor is impossible to contact. Thanks!
G'day mate, any AHI number under 5 is good and considered 'normal breathing' Thank you :-)
Yep the my Doctor here in Tennessee said oh you are doing great we will see you in a year. Not much help.
@@philiphungate3121 Hey brother Phillip. My dad is a vet and gets his cpap stuff from them. He will have up to 38 events per hour while using cpap and on auto setting. I think cpap just measures your events and doesn't prevent them. I'll be under .5 events per hour for a week then BAM at 17 events an hour. It's the same deal with my doc. It's become big business. I've lost about 60 pounds and I'm hoping to get off of cpap. I learned most things from online because doctors are no help.
@@philiphungate3121 If you have inquiries Nick that runs this channel will help with some advice. Great guy.
@@philiphungate3121 One of my doctors at a state hospital told me they cant help me and to talk to Dr. Google. I've had 5 surgeries on my head, have two holes drilled in my skull and a new ear drum. I went to visit someone and her husband was a surgeon. Stayed two weeks. Greg and I got along great. He would go slice up people then he would get home and we would have a cigar, whiskey and sit in back by the pool and listen to classical music. Old Navy man. We had many laughs. He said "Jeremiah, I have a hard time making friends". I told him "I have a hard time trusting doctors but I trust you". Greg's wife says he is one of the last honest surgeons. Still out there but rare.
Hi, thanks for all of the great information. My husband has a Resmed 10. He has been getting really high AHI ( between 7 and 45). We have tried the doctor, new face mask, new machine, new sleep positions. This has been going on for over a year and we can't seem to get any answers. Do you have any suggestions? His mask fit is always at 100%. Thanks so much.Monica
Thank you so much for the video even 2 years later. I was waking up all night and reseting comfort mode or just taking it off because the high pressure was waking me up all night. I was getting bad bloating also.
Excellent video. Best I've seen out there. I used this video on my ResMed AirSense 10 a year ago. It helped a lot. Just bought the Luna 3B. Great improvements.
Glad it helped!
Thank you for this great video. I have the ResMed AirSense 10: could you send me information to check my clinical settings please?
Hi Pam, glad you enjoyed it. Yep here's the link - ua-cam.com/video/qIfHud8ZhDE/v-deo.html Let me know if you need any further assistance :-)
Great info I knew how to change the settings but didn’t know about the AHI. I’ll have to look at that and see if I need to adjust
Great work! Let me know how you go :-)
@@CPAPReviews how do you access the clinical settings for my Resmed Elite older Cpap model. Thanks
Thank you so much for this information Uncle Nick.. I'm fine tuning every night my auto setting was first maxed at 20.0 and as I go down I'm still under 5.0 ahi. And easyer to breathe during therapy.. hopefully I'm doing this correctly as your explanations.
Super helpful! Thanks Nick
Nick, Thanks for doing these fantastic videos. I haven't found anyone near as f=good as you. I was just switched from CPCP to BIPAB, which eliminated my need for supplemental oxygen. I am struggling with mask leakage and your videos have been a great help.
The video on the Quattro was particularly helpful and I switched from my F20 back to an older Quattro with great improvements in leakage.
Congratulations on your latest family addition. I have four children and they are all wonderful
Hey brother, mate it's these sort of comments that keep me making the vids. Great to hear you're find them useful and they're making a difference in your life. Appreciate the congrats and i wish you and your family all the best. Look after them ;-). Nick

Nick,
I struggled with my first week on BIPAP, with terrible sleep due to mask leakage and my AHI as high as 17. The last seven days, my average is 8:47 sleep with average AHI &Ai of 2.8& 1.5. My medical supplier called to see how I was doing and I told her, thanks to you, I had everything figured. She said that was great, as it is difficult to troubleshoot issues, particularly remotely.
Take care, Dick
Thanks, that is so informative. I was definitely having mask leak caused by pressure getting too high. I also turned off Auto off as one time, I found the unit had turned off while I was sleeping. By the way, what is a good leak rate, as I am getting 46L/M, definitely seems too high to me? Cheers.
Hi there, thanks for the kind words. Glad you enjoyed it. Anything less than 60L/M is pretty good. Some people will find it difficult to get under this number so when it comes to leak rates, if they're not bothering you too much and waking you up and your AHI number is still low then you don't really need to worry about them too much. Have a great day. Nick
@@CPAPReviews Thanks, Nick.
Thank you Nick for replying to me, this video is very helpful, time to have a play with my auto cpap S9 😀🤗
Always welcome Cheryl :)
Great video. I happen to have the same machine so this def helps a lot. Thank you very much
Hi, this is a great tutorial! When you say that your AHI needs to be below a certain number, i.e. 5 or 6; do you mean 5.0/6.0 or 0.5 or 0.6. I'm referring to when trying to adjust pressure levels using only the AHI number. Thanks for the great content!
I'm hoping it's 5.0 because I am currently 2.2, so fingers crossed it's not .5!
@@paulgrogan8339 Its 5.0 .
Hi Nick, I am new to the CPAP world. I have been trailing an auto Dreamstation for about three weeks. My AHI was 25 in sleep test and with the machine I am averaging 3 - 10. Your video have been awesome get an understanding of it all. Your straight Aussie talk is fantastic! Question: How long does it take for most to gain more normal energy levels and less snoozing during the day?
Hi Darryl, thanks for the kind words. Glad to hear you're having some success with the therapy. It's a great question and the truth is that it's a different time frame for everyone. Some people wake up after 1 day felling brand new and some people actually never feel much difference even though their apnea is treated. Normally after 1 month, most people notice a difference in their overall energy levels and a reduction in day time sleepiness. Sometimes people also forget actually how much more sleepy they were without the cpap so perhaps have a night off after 1 month and you will probably notice the difference in how you feel. All the best. Nick
@@CPAPReviews Thanks Nick. To tell you the truth, I only notice a little improvement at the moment. Maybe my specialist help tweak my settings I will see an improvement.
I've been on it 10 years and I still feel like sleeping all day and all night. Good luck to you.
For me the sleeping snd feeling rested it was instant. Make adjustments to find that sweet spot. If it isn’t life changing something isn’t right.
@@quantumtechcrypto7080 Yep, finding that adjustment is the thing I have been trying to do for past two + year. I have an appointment with another sleep specialist next month.

How to change resmed aircurve 10 s
I have AHI that varies from as 0.3 - 0.8 with my pressure settings to 4.0 - 6.2 do you think I should reduce the max pressure more or is this perfect ?
He does mention in the video that as long as you are under 5 AHI, you should be good. Your average AHI is very low, so in the video he also says you can keep lowering your pressure as long as you keep under 5 AHI. Are you sleeping well or do the pressure changes wake you up?
Just wanted to say thank you for the wonderful videos.
Hi there, you're very welcome. Cheers
Just came across your channel Nick, thanks for all the info. I have a ResMed AirSence 10 and the pressure has always been too high, after watching this I was able to get the pressure down, I have set it at 12.6 cm so I will see how it goes tonight, thanks again.
Hey brother, welcome to the channel. Good luck tonight. Nicko
@@CPAPReviews ended up at 8.6 cm and slept great, think I am going to try 7.6 cm tonight, I never questioned the place back in Ontario where I purchased it in 2019, and I stopped using it early last year as I had lost weight and thought I was sleeping better. Started using the Airsence 10 again early this year (2021) and I had to have the mask headgear really tight to stop the mask from leaking and here it was at 20 cm, duh, but thanks to you I have it on track now. One more thing Nick, how do I get the report that you got on the machine you have there? I can get to something called my report I think it is, but none of the stuff you show is there. Thanks again, Gordon
Hi Nick,
I was tested by a sleep clinic and my AHI was measured at 67 /h AHI.
I am using the ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet 5 - 15
The first couple of nights the AHI was down to 3.8 / 2.6 but started creeping upwards.
Lately, I wake up tired as can be.
I am tempted to set the max a bit lower OR start with a fixed pressure test to find the optimal setting.
Could you please send me the instructions to get into clinical settings as well as your suggestions

What sort of machine do you have?
It's a terrible shame no one has replied to you still
Turn on the machine then press both the dial button and the "Home" button. That will get you into the settings.
Great video. I am able to see pressure reading. It ramps up to 10. It was raised from 8 to 10. Therapist and I were trying to bring oxygen level up. I had done a pulse oximetry 8 hr overnight test where oxygen level went to near 80.
I noticed my events are increasing since she raised pressure to 10.. any ideas
Hi Dorothy, hmmmm this is very very interesting. Do you have any other medical conditions like COPD or any other respiratory conditions? Are you a smoker? Did your O2 levels drop to 80 even whilst using CPAP therapy. If your AHI is well controlled then your O2 levels should be above 90 unless you have some other lung conditions. Increasing the pressure should also reduce the AHI but you AHI will change from time to time depending on many factors. It sounds a bit complex for me. Best to consult with your specialist about it I feel. Let me know how you get on. Nick

Hi Nick, is there a video for ResMed S9 Auto Set ?
Hi Mate, yep here's one ua-cam.com/video/ixeQpfX_WWU/v-deo.html . It's pretty basic. Cheers
Hi Nick great information! My question is how come my AHI varies a lot from one night to the next it has gone as high as 12 the next night it's down to 3 or less why is that? My pressure is at 11
Hi Pete, great question mate. So it can vary for a number of reasons. 1. The position you sleep in and how much time you spend in supine (on your back) sleep. Most people have a lot more sleep apnea when they're on their back compared to on their side etc so the more time you spend on your back the more likely your AHI will increase. 2. Your diet (especially alcohol consumption). 3. Allergies / congestion / colds etc will have an impact. 4. Weather, how hot or cold it is, how much ambient humidity is in the air. And there's also many more factors that can influence the AHI.
My advice to everyone is not really pay to much attention on a night to night basis. You really just want to be looking at your weekly or monthly AHI average. This will give you a good ideas as to the overall control of your sleep apnea. An AHI of 11 is still very low.
All the best
Nick
Thanks for that information greatly appreciate it!
