My mates and I played the crap out of this back in the day and I remember we made it our personal mission to all star all levels..the replayability is insanely good because your character becomes incrementally more powerful enabling you to tackle higher difficulties every time. A blast to play
12:30 - I remember that one of the hostage situations ends with the perp being knocked into an empty elevator shaft. Thing is, you're already on the ground floor, so he just ends up yelling at you while face-down and motionless at the bottom of the shaft. You're supposed to then call the elevator and flatten the guy, but I always found it kinda funny to leave him there, yelling at you the whole time like a toddler having a tantrum.
I am so happy to hear you talking about this. We need a port to modern consoles! Even if it's not upgraded at all, I just wanna be able to play it again. I used to sit in the main menu and just rock out to the theme song.

That pistol shot sound effect sounds incredibly familiar, it was used in another game that i've played recently and i just can't put my damn finger on it, now it's gonna bother me until i find out what damn game it is, thanks Gman and stock library sounds! Great vid btw, love seeing you give these lesser-known games some TLC
I dig this PS2 era of graphics, where the effects deliver the visual presentation of it. Man, that bokeh effect whenever you tased someone was fantastic.
Dude this is one of the games I tie into the memory of my golden age of gaming and that being the good old PS2 days. ( Hands down the best! ) Recently I remembered this game and was watching videos out of nostalgia and seeing this pop up on your channel is such a cool coincidence and an absolute treat.
I tried to play through it recently and it's real tough, overflowing with charm though. I had it on Dreamcast originally and didn't get very far, but trying to play it now the PC version crashes and has bad controller support, emulating the DC version is possible but i had graphics bugs and widescreen hacks don't look good, so i played the PS1 version which works well though the game has quite a lot of slowdown which can be remedied a bit by overclocking the CPU emulation, but not too much or it affects game speed.
@@Zontar82 PC emulation is something i've never tried, i don't really want to mess with it on my main PC, if i ever have a 2nd machine set up for stuff like that maybe, just thinking about the driver situation is scary enough.
@@cikame Yeah I actually never finished it. Remember it being pretty difficult. I was a little kid when I played it way back when, plus it wasn't properly localised in my language I don't think and it missed the FMV's. The fact I never got to the ending makes me even more excited for some form of review, coz I'd finally know how I was supposed to play it.
Definitely, I'd buy a remaster of Urban Chaos on current console and pc. Star Wars Republic Commando finally got 1 in 2021. So never give up hope. As for Xbox backwards compatibility, I think Microsoft will no longer add more games after the recent November update. Damn shame, but we did get all the FEAR games in that update.
Ok I am so happy you are doing this game. This is seriously one of my favorite games, played it non stop when it came out on original Xbox. I wish rocksteady would remaster this game, did you know that if you rotate the right analog stick twice I believe that your aiming reticle turns blue and you can get a slomo kill everytime you do it.
Fun fact: in the Italian dub, the leader of the burners is voiced by Marco Balzarotti, a voice actor very famous in Italy that is the voice of Batman in the animated movies, and obviously is also the voice of Batman in the Arkham Games... But obviously back then the devs did not know that they'd become legendary for their Batman games
Honestly that dockyard mission was one of my favorites, becouse it introduced my 10 year old brain to dual machineguns and chainsaws, also the final mission/epilogue is really fun and a good twist to gameplay, man this game was fun
I remember this one...it's one of the very few FPS games on that console that hold up, which I wish more games would take inspiration from. I need a remake/rerelease/remaster
Holy shit I remember playing this game!!! It was an absolute blast back then! I hope someone out there tries to remake this game with modern graphics and everything. That would be spectacular! :D

Much like a Paul Verhoeven film, it has those who unironically sympathize with the bad guys (the cops), some of which are in this very comment section!
@@tobiasfunke6284 people like you are usually the first the first ones crying out for help, when something happens to them. And for people like you others are forced to risk their lifes, despite getting looked down upon. What a hero you are! There are plenty of people within the police squad who act sane and rational btw. Not that you would either accept or realize this, though… Verhoeven's films also never specifically looked down upon men in uniform, who were in service for the public, but rather totalitarian governments and corporate interference within governing bodies such as the police. Robocop was one of those films.
If I remember correctly, they took inspiration from the 80s and 90s riots in the United States and since the studios is from the UK it took some inspiration from the troubles.
Oh, geez! Something else I didn't know about this game (in addition to upgrading the taser to Syphon Filter ranges) ... What is/are the minimum requirement(s) to get that mobile chaingun? 🤔 Once I acquire the mobile chaingun, can that be utilized in LAN and/or online multiplayer? ... I've been too focused on making a PS2 home LAN, their LAN-tunneling and connecting to PS2 online fan servers to get that far into the campaign to get these items/upgrades. Don't know how the mobile chaingun would actually come into play online, now that I recollect about defending the SWAT trucks - they are stationary.... Regardless, a pegged-out taser would be a blast in online play - especially for silly stuff like setting avatars on fire like it does in the Syphon Filter series. Speaking of which, Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain can be played online again now for the PS2 as well. 👍 Good retro-online nostalgic trippin' is on its way.... 🍻
@@That_Handle requirements for the chaingun is basically to complete all side objectives and earn all medals, in a mission on terror mode, you could try to do that in one go on most missions except the last, the last mission for some reason has uneven amount of enemies for both headshots and taser incaps, meaning you can only do one at a time and have to restart to achieve all medals. as for mp. Dunno about that, i mostly semi speedrun the campaign only, never touched the multiplayer and honestly have no intentions, as i mostly focus on singleplayer. although from what i've heard mp was (is) quite interesting.
I remember picking this game up on a whim back in the day, not knowing a thing about it. But, despite its simplistic premise, I probably had more hours of fun with it than I did a lot of the other contemporary games of the time. Truly an unappreciated gem.
Hellllll yes. I love this damn game. I rented it for ps2 on a whim and was just floored by it. I didn't understand the lukewarm reviews back then, either.
Same. It's one of the few rented games I ever 100%-ed, and I had a blast from start to finish. Sadly, the 100% completion bonus was a bit of a let-down. Replacing the pistol with the minigun you normally only got during the rail shooter sections was actually a hinderance for me, as I used that pistol for the majority of my time playing the game.
This looks like an absolutely amazing arcade game, I'm surprised it didn't come out on a cabinet first. The schlocky MERICA style, the great cartoony realism, goddamn!!!

Love this game. Played the PS2 version a year or two ago and along with Black, it’s one of the most fun and satisfying first person shooters of the generation. I especially like the short, linear levels with multiple objectives. Gives it a very arcadey vibe which makes me want to go back to previous levels to see everything it has to offer.
After owning this game for 15 years, I'm still missing only 1 medal. I made another attempt just 2 months ago but died 2 rooms before the final boss on terror mode😦 Edit: the reason I wasn't getting that last medal was the difficulty choice: turns out I was playing in Veteran mode instead of Terror🙈😂

I remember deliberately failing the first mission for like an hour because blasting your partner out the back of the police van was absolutely hilarious.

Yeah. I remember this is how it would go
Wolf: Now that's what I call T-ZERO--
Me: *Friendly Fire with shotgun*
Wolf: *AaaaAAaaAaAaAAAAAaaaaAaaaaahhh*
Or another one for me would be where you go inside and there’s a guy next to the pipes I would always shotgun him and try to see if I can make him go over to the other side
I used the sawed off shotgun to make the paramedic do a backflip off the top of the stairs 😂😂

Man, imagine being a fireman and having to unlock an extra fire hose. Or being a policeman and having to unlock handcuffs.

Speaking of the taser, the old Syphon Filter games had a taser that could hit a target from a far distance and also burn them.
Syphon Filter probably has the best taser in all of gaming. I'd love to see that franchise return.
@@Gruntvc definitely. Sadly the games are hard to play these days. I'm the last guy on earth to say older 3d games haven't aged greatly controlwise. Now I'm going to have to check that next time I power up to go online with Urban Chaos for the PS2.

The way the real person cutscenes talk about how you saved their lives made 10 year old me feel like a real hero.
Urban Chaos and BLACK are still my favorite games ever for the PS2, thank u for reviewing such a gem!!
BLACK was so good such a shame they didnt make a sequel
2 of the most underrated games ever
Duuuuude yes
Black is overrated and if it wasn't for graphics, it'd have been forgotten. The enemies are way too bullet spongey.
@@DP12321 y'know, I can't really argue with that. Black's presentation was definitely it's biggest strength, I enjoyed it, but looking back it definitely prioritised style over substance

I was fortunate enough to play this back in the day, and it's influenced me ever since. World's most indestructible riot shield.

The shield in this game is probably one of the most satisfying shields in gaming, from the thunky sounds of blocking the bullets to the shield getting completely torn up but just not relenting whatsoever, always available and still just as effective
I just appreciate a game that isn't above having black and white morality from time to time. The bad guys are bad, the good guys are good. Sometimes you don't want to have a web of intrigue to make you question your actions and just wanna shoot some fucking monsters.

One of the most underappreciated and overlooked FPS games of the 6th console generation, thank you for reviewing it
Gman, you're something else. Not only you anounces your sponsor right at the beginning of the video, you hold the sponsor to the ending of the video.
Seriously, you bring us top quality content, you always bring us relevant and exquisite games, with a solid narration and perspective of it, funny references and comments, also don't shove a sponsor up our asses. The first game will always be nostalgia for me. I remember how awe struck and excited how much fun I was having.
This game is so unknown, but loads of fun! I remember that I finished it 100% and I almost never do that in games. I had to get every medal for headshots, collecting masks and so on... Best first person shooter I ever played was on on Ps2. That's weird. Another overlooked but really fun game is The Warriors on Ps2...
This is probably the first game I ever finished 100% and I remember thing it was gonna be impossible to do so, that last mission was so fucking hard. Being able to run through all the missions with a Minigun made it worth the effort though.
It's like State of Emergency. But better!
@@Lime43 I remember it was really tough to get all the medals, but the game was so fun you didn't want to quit. My grandma got me this game on a whim in 2006 for my Xbox because she had a hunch I would like it and I'm not even exaggerating when I say I put about 300 hours into that thing as a rough estimate. Sadly my copy is pretty roughed up and I have doubts it's ever gonna get the rerelease it so desperately deserves.
Good job grandma 👏
I initially found out about this game when I got a modded PS2 a few years ago, and decided to just try out a bunch or random crap. This was absolutely a hidden gem, I had a blast with this.

This was one of the only games that I ever really got into the multiplayer for. I was ranked in the top 20, which I was so proud of at the time. I had so many hours of multiplayer fun and I absolutely crushed it as the T-Zero cops cuz the riot shield was so OP lol.
That pistol shot sound effect sounds incredibly familiar, it was used in another game that i've played recently and i just can't put my damn finger on it, now it's gonna bother me until i find out what damn game it is, thanks Gman and stock library sounds! ( Hands down the best! ) Recently I remembered this game and was watching videos out of nostalgia and seeing this pop up on your channel is such a cool coincidence and an absolute treat.
Wish you'd review the other one "Urban Chaos" as well. That game was real cool imo.

Honestly that dockyard mission was one of my favorites, becouse it introduced my 10 year old brain to dual machineguns and chainsaws, also the final mission/epilogue is really fun and a good twist to gameplay, man this game was fun

what a masterpiece!! I've 100%-ed this game at least 12 times, i loved it so much. also all medals give you a mobile chaingun.
wow really didn't knew that!
