Doom 2016 was better. It actually made you feel like a BA through effort in a high-speed survival scenario. Eternal actively punished me for not conforming to its contrived game mechanics (you can only kill the weakest enemies via melee when they're blinking for some reason, and Cacodemons can only be killed with either A. a single grenade in the mouth, or B. YOUR ENTIRE SUPPLY of 50cal. bullets to the eyeball.), and so it just felt like playing a goofy platforming videogame.
That’s one thing I’m worried about. Mick Gordon elevated the Doom franchise to new heights with his music. Hopefully whoever they use can get even remotely close to that.

It's not a reinvention like at all. It's literally the Slayer Testament from 2016 we're playing. It's a prequel not a reboot. TDA, 2016 and Eternal are a planned trilogy. Hugo Martin has said this the whole way through
The chainsaw, Crucible sword and hammer were *barely* melee weapons, more like resource generators and insta-kill buttons. I'd love to see more proper melee combat in Doom, and Dark Ages seems to be doing something like that.

Like one part, you play as the marine doom guy then you eventually play as the doom slayer. Now if there will be a multiplayer… please make it like 2016 doom. Doom eternal’s got boring real fast.
Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal were both fantastic but Doom The Dark Ages looks like a real step up in terms of gameplay mechanics, the mech suit and Mecha dragon look amazing 😊
Having each disk lined up I’m gonna feel completed, each game is it’s own identity in a sense, the way they’ve revived this series is absolutely incredible. Can’t wait to dive deep in the lore again
Actually, Eternal was the bigger risk. Great game, but ID went a bit too silly in Eternal they also introduced a lot of mobility elements and cranked the difficulty up. Dark Ages, from what we know is actually more safe than Eternal was imo. It’s literally the slayer’s testaments made into a game. The visuals look more like doom 2016 and the demons look way less silly. The weapons are over the top with a medieval flair, but a skull shrapnel gun is something the slayer would absolutely use. Gameplay wise, Dark Ages appears to refine the complexity Eternal introduced. Of course, IGN is ret***ed and doesn’t understand DOOM at all.

This looks badass. A space guy gets shot into a castle and starts shooting skulls at mfs. How many games you want them to make on a space station. iD definitely played some Elden Ring. And yeah, definitely not mad about glory kills going away. Shit's cool for two minutes until you get a repeat animation - slows down gameplay in a way illogical to the rest of the game's speed.
Why? We had ego shooter (1, 2, 64, Final) followed by survival horror shooter (3), a mix of ego and arena shooter (2016) followed by arena shooter (Eternal). The series never stood still.
Doom is still doom. These people absolutely know what they're doing and I'm VERY excited to slay even more demons.
