- A cathedral in France has been engulfed by flames as footage shows plumes of black smoke filling the sky.
The spire of the Notre-Dame de Rouen Cathedral in Normandy caught on fire on Thursday.
Emergency services rushed to the scene as they work to extinguish the blaze, the Mayor of Rouen has said.

If there are 20x more churches than mosques, you'd expect 20x more church fires. In reality churches will catch fire even more often because of their older architecture. Both Notre Dame and Rouen fire happened during renovation because Renovation presents a fire risk from sparks, short-circuits, and heat from welding and introduce the risk of worker's negligence in the form of cigarettes.

According to Wkipedia the Notre Damn Paris fire was caused by either a discarded cigarette or an electrical fault. Since they are very different causes, I think that really means ‘we don’t know’ or ‘we aren’t saying’. I wonder what they will conclude in this case?

@@Chattingbubbles There are lots of beautiful churches in France and in Europe generally. Many are named for ‘Our Lady’ the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Considering the limited means and tools available when these masterpieces were constructed, some a thousand years ago, it’s quite breathtaking when you stand inside and raise your eyes to the vaulted roofs and clerestories.
They were built to the glory of God and to inspire mortals to aspire to salvation through following Christ.
They are treasures we should all appreciate and conserve. And continue to use them to praise God.
To attend a sung Latin Mass in one of these beautiful buildings, is the nearest you can get to heaven on this earth.🙏
