As an American, I can’t possibly overstate my appreciation to the French people for ensuring that this incredible landmark received the highest attention to detail with much love and care in this fine old lady’s restoration. So many other historical landmarks should have been treated with the same understanding of their historical significance that they would’ve been repaired as needed instead of being ignored. The Parthenon is one such building. People generally aren’t aware of this, but the vast majority of the damage to the Parthenon happened during the 18th and 19th centuries. The English even had the gall to remove many of the Parthenon’s gorgeous fresco’s that surround the building along its roofline, and placed them in a museum where they sit to this day, with the English government refusing to return them back to their rightful owners, the Greek government. Unfortunately, some idiot thought that the Parthenon was going to be a good place to store live ammunition. Needless to say, it most certainly wasn’t. She too has been undergoing significant repairs and restoration, but not even remotely close to the actual work that she deserves. The Parthenon should have undergone a complete restoration, and it should’ve happened long before now. Most people don’t understand the historical significance of this building. She’s literally the very first building of her type, and emboldened significant changes to follow-on buildings around the entire world. Another such building is the Roman Colosseum. She too should have been restored back to her original design and specifications. Perhaps one day, the Italian government will come to see the architectural and historical significance this site brings to all parts of the world, and will finally decide to conduct a full and complete massive restoration of on of the most significant structures of her time. Each of these structures value is essentially priceless. A full and complete restoration of each will ensure their survival well into the distant future for all of mankind, but we must act before there’s nothing left to restore.

it's incredible how the French were able to bring together all the skills necessary for such a restoration... they carried out absolutely gigantic studies, went to cut stones in the same mines where they had been taken during its construction 1000 years ago! they studied and reproduced the same cements, the same pigments, the same glues, the same woods...and even the lead castings were carried out as they were 1000 years ago! the frame has been reproduced identically with absolutely incredible attention to detail. The stained glass windows having all been saved have been restored using very high technology methods.....it is impossible to imagine as a whole the difficulties of the task, it is just incredible the amount of talent, intelligence and ancestral know-how that had to be brought together here. it's a timeless accomplishment...congratulations to them, their efforts will last for centuries and probably for millennia to come.

I agree, it was stupid. Instead of building the roof trusses in steel which would prevent fire and help in lightning strikes, they are rebuilding it with wooden trusses. This is like building a working replica of the TITANIC with the same number of lifeboats as before for historical accuracy. With the money available, the trusses could have been made out of stainless steel and would have never degraded. Fire suppression usually damages things. The best way is to build things which just don't burn. They are treating the timber to reduce burning. Watch the treatment chemical turn out to be a carcinogen.
@@lewisdoherty7621 I also meant a design upgrade. The proposed modern roofs or rooftop gardens would have been unique. I know that Notre Dame is special, but it could have been even more unique.

Stainless steel beyond a certain degree of heat does burn. 100% metal skycrapers so burn like torches, as well as cruisers on the high sea. Treated wood and bamboo burns far less easily at very high temperatures. In medieval times such wood was treated. I caught fire so easily because of a big mistake : the truss beams has just been covered with an anti-insect protective paint with turned out to be particularly inflammable.
Steel like steel wool will burn, if it has a lot of surface area. A steel structure with stone and only a bit of combustable furniture in it, won't sustain combustion.@@MrMirville
99% of this I have seen in other videos. I want to see what the cathedral looks like today, not just the whole history again and again (not only your fault). I hope they planted at least a tree for every tree they cut down to rebuild this place. They cut down a lot of beautiful trees to restore this building. Trees are much more important than this place. We have failed to see this.
They could have done it in four years if they worked 5 days a week instead of just 4. They’ve taken a full year off in these 5 years. Is it any wonder that the French GDP is one of the lowest in Europe. LOL
You are, of course correct: GDP is the only worthwhile measure of the goodness of a country. Things like quality of life, education, health care, vacation time … pfft. Who needs all those drains on the pockets of the wealthy?
French work 30 hours a week. Want speed, go to china, I think this structure will be completed in 2 years under chinese team and the church can collect visit fees earlier. but over to french method, will it finish by 2027?
Why should Catholics be concerned with refurbishing or otherwise effecting structural alterations or repairs on a church, much less a cathedral, where the Holy Sacrifice of The Msss is not even celebrated nor The Blessed Sacrament adored?
Because they're humans and it's an astonishing thing of beauty created by humans? I'm not Catholic, but I am in favor of repairing and restoring this building.
Dude. Did u watch the whole video? In 9:11 they said that it would cost 767 million but they got donations for over 900 million. The bill is payed through donations. Why would the pope need to pay for something France got for free which is also drawing tourists from around the world.
The French built it as a labor of love for their religious faith. Yes, the designers, suppliers and workers were paid, but not much, and a lot of the labor was provided free as penance. You may not believe, and that's fine, but this is a symbol of France, before France was whole as we know it today.

This issue is how to prevent its destruction again. That was no accident.
What a poorly produced video. The mismatch between the narration and images is at times laughable. There are many, much better produced videos available.
I appreciate the effort , but i have to agree
Please consider that the message and the information are far more important than artsy, fartsy transitions and 'old film' looks. Far too many content providers do this. It's annoying and unwanted.
@@jameswilson5165Okay but the nail in the coffin is he used a clickbait thumbnail for clicks, I would put the video into question because of that, as I already noted in another comment.
@@nar2ccI agree, and he doesn't say anything about what stage the reconstruction has actually reached
I love this video... the info was so good
This is not a "restoration update" It is just a regurgitation of already known facts. Pure clickbait.
The organ received no water damage.
The mystery is tha while construction was getting done it went on fire . And now some one will get a contract for 900.000 .000
Instead of building the roof trusses in steel which would prevent fire and help in lightning strikes, they are rebuilding it with wooden trusses.
That spire doesn't fit with the original building. Someone felt a need to make their mark on a harmonious and completed building.
The French government ruined the Louvre by sticking those glass triangles up out of the ground. Let's see how they mess this thing up.
Remarkable determination.
The fire was in 2019, not 2017.Check your video.
99% of this I have seen in other videos. I want to see what the cathedral looks like today, not just the whole history again and again (not only your fault). I (along with many) watch a fair amount of videos on the Notre Dame, so nothing was new. I fast forwarded, and hoped to see the cathedral as it was 3 days ago (as I write), but nothing. If there is a new view, please give me the time code so I can see it. The only thing I know for sure is that it doesn't look like in the thumbnail!
@The Impossible Build; erm, this ISNT the first - nor last example of your apparent unfamiliarity with (let's just call them 'simple thimgs', instead of things people with a brain would know), but, THIS (6:25) is NOT 'limestome', nor is it 'stone' of ANY kind by any stretch of the imagination, yet, for some ...reason, YOU chose this shot to be seen, JUST as the VO is starting to mention 'lmestone'.
As I said, it's not a 'oops, you're being too harsh', no, it's NOT the first in this thing.
Better you stick to something you can easily do; to sell pencils.
Little to nothing about the restoration. Another repeat of history from other sources. Don’t waist your time.
1:27 - That's not a flying buttress. Am I supposed to take you seriously?
Update the unrest in everything. 2030 is a conservative estimate for completion.
"Quailty" is not "Quality".
Check your graphics.
Sorry, but I don't like the new spire. Looks like a bit of Las Vegas.
When showing the restoration, please don’t show the flames engulfing Notre Dame. I want to be reminded of that horrendous incident
The Catholic Church should have paid the entirety of the costs to rebuild.
YAWN!!!!!!!!
Wonderful done🙏 In Europe they are very far to rebuild their wonderful buildings, 🙏 BRAVO🎉🎉 Thank you Blessed Notre , and continue to bless all who has making and working on this beautiful PROYECT AMEN 🙏 THANK YOU PRESIDENT MACRON, FOR TO BE A PART OF IT SINCE THE BEGINNING.🙏 MANY HAS BOYCOTTED YOU, BUT YOUR PLANS WAS VICTORIOUS 🙏
another religious whatever.. geez where was your god when it burnt down
They barely resisted the modern desire to make it look butt ugly. Hang, on wait...... not finished yet.......
…..and to think the fire could’ve been prevented if a blue collar construction worker hadn’t thrown his still lit cigarette butt. 🤔🤷🏼♂️🤔🤷🏼♂️
UA-cam, Bring back the thumbs down! This is getting ridiculous!
Thumbs down is still there. It’s right next to thumbs up.
Too bad the French didn't update the spire as your intro image shows. What a wonderful 21st century improvement to a 13th/14th century cathedral.
Nobody is modernizing the look of such an iconic building.
@@jasonkoch3182 Please recall that the spire was added on to the Cathedral in the 19the Century. It, in itself, was NOT original. Design is always a matter of opinion, but, the 21st Century Spire "improvement" as shown in the lead in image, would have added a wonderful look to an eight hundred year old building. IMHO as an architect.
I would have changed the spire too but in gothic style nevertheless.
There is no unveiling. This is a short, shabby video. Clickbait for sure.
I already knew all this. This video is only useful to people who haven’t been following this project. The title is misleading.
Where was the unveiling? It was just a recap…title needs changing to recap of the tragedy…good video but not what was promised
Imagine spending 1 billion ($1,000,000,000) dollars to restore ONE building. Insane.
No se que le hizo mas daño, el incendio o el nuevo diseño, es como cambiarle la sonrisa a la Mona Lisa, terrible
I don't know what hurt it more, the fire or the new design, it's like changing Mona Lisa's smile, terrible
Je ne sais pas ce qui m'a fait le plus mal, l'incendie ou le nouveau design, c'est comme changer le sourire de Mona Lisa, terrible
i felt a small feel. it wasnt right though
Clickbait. The headline modern 'photo' is thankfully NOT what the new spire will look like.
The very loud, added camera sound snapshot effects are harsh and distracting. And unnecessary. They ruined the video for me.
They should have rebuilt it the way it was 😢 it looks horrible!
No one should've paid for this to be rebuilt except the church. They have more than enough money.
Which church? The Catholic Church doesn't own this church.
Fake thumbnail is your first clue this is cobbled together fluff with little substance.
Nothing new. Click bait
Islamic Architecture is truly beautiful

@@blackrose7596 I suggest you read the book "STEALING FROM THE SARACENS"
@@mohairmohammad8095 Sure buddy, "STEALING FROM THE SARACENS". Why would anyone want to steal from camel lovers?!?
Screenshot was clickbait. Lousy update offering nothing new.
This restoration is not as beautiful as the original structure. Personally I think it’s ugly what is that on top the Eiffel tower?they should of left alone and made it the same as it was … sad they ruined it in my opinion
Not everybody looked on in horror, many in the streets of Paris were jubilant over it. Guess who?
Hi there,
Let me introduce myself, my name is Aldie, a professional voice over talent who speaks fluent Indonesian.
I'm sure your videos will be more interesting to Indonesian viewers if they are delivered by a narrator in Indonesian. This of course also expands the reach of your videos.
That's why I'm interested in working with you.
Can there be opportunities?
Regards
Whats impossible is that those in charge will never release the facts about who burned down the church
Recycled and stolen content. You add nothing of value.
Seriously!!!!!!!!! You called the tower a flying buttress. This is NOT OK. And your thumbnail picture shows you have no integrity.
This is just a poorly pieced together rehash of clips. There is little new detail and nothing substantial regarding the restoration. Subscriber lost
The pic is ridiculous. The editing is amateurish
Embarrassing. Pathetic. We know why the original design was replaced with this modern art crap.. There are no artisans today who can replicate the original.
Childish video. Is that the intent here? Show this to your 5th grade class?
It looks really ugly....
Hope they billed the church?
Over one BILLION $ was raised globally
Why should Catholics be concerned with refurbishing or otherwise effecting structural alterations or repairs on a church, much less a cathedral, where the Holy Sacrifice of The Msss is not even celebrated nor The Blessed Sacrament adored?
Because they're humans and it's an astonishing thing of beauty created by humans? I'm not Catholic, but I am in favor of repairing and restoring this building.
Send the Vatican the bill.
